I think everyone is over rating the traveling time and extra game the Hawks had to play this final series.

QF Hawks took foot of peddle and didn't give 100%.
SF Hawks had a training run
PF Hawks had a nice warm up m
Our goal kicking almost at 100% but against the Weagle at maybe 60%.

This leads to a Hawks primed to give 100%.

Heat is no factor at all as Melbourne weather is no were near as humid and hot as in Perth in our hottest day

If we start well we will win...

Perth has hot weather - doesn't really have much humid weather.

Yeah I'm utterly astounded that people would call perth Humid. What the hell are they thinking?

It's a confusing feeling on Grand Final - eve. A mixture of excitement, breathlessness, anxiety, and hope. Weirdly, the closer it gets the calmer I feel. I think peak nervousness is between the PF and Tuesday when nobody outside the club has a clue who will be in or out. Now that the team has been selected there is some surety. So with an experienced, talented, and well-coached team about to hit the field I feel I can just let the motivation of our team carry the big day for us. We'll know in the first 5 minutes if the hawks have come to play. Early hand passes and kicks hitting their targets, tackles sticking, everyone sure-footed and lots of teammates getting to good positions. We have winners on every line, proven defenders, multiple forward targets, a proven game style and a home ground advantage. We truly are fortunate to have such a great club to support. Go Hawks.

Replay on fox now. Second quarter oof against which was dodgy, then a 50 against for not returning the ball correctly

They didn't seem to let us play our natural game or we didn't play it for some reason.
There just wasn't much fast movement by us that night.

How are we going in slower and taller than any other game where we have Hartung as a sub?

He is normally only called upon to play the last quarter.

The analysis and comments surrounding Hartung, a guy who has nothing to do with the first 3 quarters of just every game he's every been named as sub, is perplexing.

Perplexing? Gunston coming in changes everything considering a tall isn't sub, which is very likely.
We will have an extra tall in our starting 21 and 1 less small. Instead of Hartung being sub it'll be another small (Suckling, Duryea?).
So effectively, Gunston comes into our starting 21 and a small is out. How does that not make our team that little bit slower and taller?
Not understanding THAT is perplexing.

The first line sums it up for me.
There really not too many other ways we could go...
Hartung unfortunately, at this stage in his career, not really an option for a granny, yes would be fine to sub in if everything was going our way, but not one to help us if sub is needing to be made at height of battle.
Too light and has been a bit off form lately, probably due to being sub so many times lately..
After schoe and hartung, next cab is langford, which really didn't work for us in the QF, nor did he show enough in box hill finals...
After him, who could we have picked??
No one else has had recent enough afl gametime.. or knocked the door down at box hill...
Selectors hands tied IMO.

That said, I think the team selected can do the job.
Rough with the middle time, and to bring a return of beast mode from last years gf..
Gunners has had a very mobile role this year and is not a traditional tall...
Schoe not slow and covers a fair amount of ground too..

Really wouldn't want to have to pick the sub though...

There was one, Simpkin, still a great sub with experience etc etc, but ain't gunna happen

Gunston isn't slow, so that doesn't really matter.

Yeah he would've been a good option but he hadn't been used all year... so wasn't in cards I thought.

Shoe is looking almost as fast and agile as he was in 2012, he's a lot more decisive and he's kicking absolute lasers when he was the ball up the ground, not to mention surprisingly good hands in close and good tackling pressure.
Roughy is basically playing as a goal kicking mid, averaging 20 disposals 2 goals and 5 tackles the last 3 weeks.
We all know how mobile Jack is and we've seen how fast Chip is.
The issue as always will be midfield pressure and two way running something that was lacking from our game in the QF but there the last two weeks.
This will be a very different game from the last one, we've picked the team to do it, Clarko has his plan its all about intensity and execution on the day, go Hawks!

I remember the first game Hartung played with both Hill and Smith and people were baffled by why we would need three outside runners like them in the one team. Now all of a sudden he has to stay in!

As people have pointed out he's hardly been used in the last two matches which we have won before he came on. He will have his place in the future but I think the right selection decisions have been made for this particular match.

All fair points but he was a huge reason we won that round 19 encounter, also I doubt either side will have the game won when the subs are activated (assuming there are no injuries).
Very happy to be proven wrong though, Clarko's track record speaks for itself!

Adam Simpson is absolutely fighting the urge to smile or show any other emotion.

He is an absolute machine focused on us :(
You sound like ep2006 on our board! Anyway, hoping for a cracking game that goes down to the wire. Much respect for the Hawks.

Do you guys think Hartung would be more dangerous than Schoenmakers? The pace of Hartung v the contested marking of Schoenmakers...either could be important, but I guess as long as they play their role then you'd be content. Certainly Schoenmakers along with Gunston and Roughy will keep our "undersized" defensive unit honest. But Hartung's energy could have been a bonus for your lot I reckon.

Tomorrows forecast is now 30deg with increasing wind. I reckon this will be a real concern for us given we haven't had a weeks break. The heat will certainly suit Eagles better. It will take a monumental effort.

I don't get this either. Do they actually know where Perth is located?
Hot yes......humidity no.

Was greeted with two days of 47° on my first "relocation" to Perth in 97.
Wtf was I thinking.
Dont think it quite reaches those temps anymore but anything above 30 is too bloody hot to be chasing a footy around.
