Well it is true. He did say realistically and even the most one-eyed supporters know , realistically, we won't win a premiership.

I dont see anything wrong in that sentence imo.

I look forward to you calling me out before games this year on my prediction of a 100 point win every week.

I think you'll find he was being a bit facetious there big fella.

Justin Leppitsch says up to five spots up for grabs in Brisbane Lions Round 1 line-up
BRISBANE coach Justin Leppitsch says up to five spots in his first-choice 22 remain up for grabs but wild weather is threatening to intensify his selection headaches.

The Lions are due to play their intra-club game at Burpengary this morning and will make a final decision at 7am on whether the game goes ahead.

The safety of players and the ground will be taken into consideration with Brisbane set to play St Kilda in their opening NAB Challenge pre-season match at Burpengary next Saturday.

The Lions are keen to play their strongest possible side throughout the pre-season and today’s scheduled hit-out was critical in helping the match committee decide on the club’s best side.

Leppitsch said the red-hot competition for places meant regular senior players last year could not be guaranteed a spot this season.

“The only negative (to the intra-club match possibly being cancelled) is that we are going to have trouble picking a team,’’ Leppitsch said.

“There’s two guys going for one spot in four or five positions.

“That’s probably a good thing though when you are taking names off the board, not putting them on.

“We want to get our best available side out there every week (of the pre-season). We’ll suit them all up. It’s just a matter of how many minutes they play.’’

Leppitsch said there was competition among the key forwards with Michael Close, Jackson Paine, Luke McGuane and Brent Staker gunning for two spots.

Backline spots, especially across half-back, are also contentious with Tom Cutler, Daniel McStay, Marco Paparone, Darcy Gardiner, Claye Beams and Justine Clarke trying to squeeze into places around Daniel Rich, Ryan Lester and Daniel Merrett.

The arrivals of new recruits Allen Christensen and Mitch Robinson have also made the half-forward line crowded.

Leppitsch said the playing group had reached the point where they were keen to put the pre-season behind them and sink their teeth into games.

He said losing the intra-club match would not be a disaster from a fitness point of view as three weeks of ‘match simulation’ sessions had the players primed.

Should we read anything into Goose not getting a mention in that Davis article?
Not sure but would seem to fit with a few pre season observations. Realistically leppa showed last year that he will favour youth in a 50/50 call with an eye on building our next contending team. Goose probably doesn't really fit that. Excellent guy to have jogging on the spot ready to go though and providing leadership in the twos
