I like Colledge but he does have limitations and I think Simpson is acutely aware that WC need better spread from stoppages and that Colledge wont assist with that. Was surprised he didn't get a gig against Freo but don't think GWS was his cup of tea.

As someone pointed out - he's not a HFFer

So what is Colledge?

193cm, was a forward as a junior and has since been groomed as a big midfielder.

Not being developed as a KP forward in the WAFL and played as a HFFer in his games to date.

So what does he need to work on to get a game?

Personally believe his best position is in centre square - but Yeo is more damaging. Needs to work on kicking efficiency & pace of the mark. Hard at it & is a very determined young man

I would prefer the draft pick over rance. Has turned into a quality player sure but he is surplus to requirements at this stage and if selwood goes and we got rance we wouldnt get the draft pick

College just isnt damaging for mine. Ive watched 4 east perth games this season and so many of his kicks are scrubbers ( maybe a little harsh). He is a very unassuming footballer and there is very little to his game that gets ur attention or stands out. Cant fault the kid on his ability to be in the right spot and get touches though and I cant see him being what we need. However if it came down to him or mcginnity in the team id take him all day.

I have been trying to figure out what worries me about College because his numbers certainly command attention.

I think it is that such a big bodied midfielder needs to impose himself more physically on the game.

He is definately an accumulator but I think it is his physicality that worries me the most.

Yeah i noticed Crippa has been attending a fair few centre bounces this year

Whatever Simmo is doing, i like it
I agree I think its because he if pretty much fearless can tackle and has speed to burn

Even if it's only a second-rounder?

Gold Coast suspend Bennell, Matera and Mackenzie for drinking

Brandon Matera would be an interesting trade prospect. No doubt his stocks have fallen over the past few years, but I remember everyone wanted him back when he started
Bennell would most likely cost a fair bit to get back here

Matera is meh plus would he get a game over Cripps who is a similar player? Plus we have Newman & Karps in the wings who i would rather give games too.

clubs fight over him so someone ends up offering him overs,
pushes him into the high earners for that club,
eagles receive 1st round compo,
eagles offer 1st rounder for harley bennell.
gold coast wants more.
eagles throw in steak knives masten and seal the deal

Be interesting re Rance. I know Murray quite well and he wasn't really chuffed that WC showed little interest (at the time) on recruiting his son. Not sure the link of "captains son" that you allude to is as strong as you think

Disagree Murray is still involved with the club through the owls program.
He is part of the owls in victoria program.

So a replacement for Priddis in a year or two.

In two to three years our centre square midfielders could include Yeo, Colledge and Waterman. A bit more size and height to balance the smaller midfielders like Shuey, Gaff, Sheed, Selwood and Duggan.

A much more balanced mix.

Bennell is contracted until 2017 and GC will want a lot more than our first and second picks.

Would do it in a heart beat.

Naitanui Shuey Bennell Coniglio Yeo Gaff Sheed Duggan get me excited.
When you look at it that would certainly be a more competitive midfield than what we have now and solves the problem of needing the next lot of draftees to mature quickly to take advantage of our aging key position players best years.
