midfield would be shaping up very nicely if we add in sloane (and don't lose steven).
dunstan, billings, acres, steven, armo and sloane as well as mckenzie, newnes, wright, webster and ross rotating through looks very, very good
How old is Sloane?

Just regarding Sloane without speaking to anyone as yet.
He absolutely loves Adelaide and so does his family now. I'm sure we can throw heaps of coin at him, but so can Adelaide. It isn't that much of a surprise but as I said in another thread Dangerfield isn't gonna be there next year. That frees up a lot of money.

Surely he's a tragic delisting at year's end? How long do you wait...?

i agree. the biggest problem for him and its something i'm not sure many realise, is that even if he is fit, due to his lack of game time over the journey and especially under ross, he doesnt have enough experience with the structures and what not, which means he will be passed over

when he was playing for peel last year and i think (cant re-call) end of the previous year, he was basically put on the park with no pressure, just free to get a run and a kick. he got a call up out of sentiment IMO rather than because he was what they needed. again not alot of pressure. there's no way he would have played if it was a final. not with ross's absolute adherence to structure.

until he can stay on the park and play a role to the team structure he wont be considered IMO and as you say it looks like delist time, if he doesnt stay on the park and contribute

i wouldnt rule out phil walsh factor. bloke goes against the grain and could piss off half the list by the end of the year
The crows are loving the new coach. Sanderson essentially had a closed door policy at the crows and it was his way or high-way. Wouldn't say it was the players who got rid of him, but when the coach wont even listen to any of the captains there was bound to be trouble.

I'm extremely confident we'll be opening up the bank for a very good midfielder after drafting Paddy.

Who we may get is a different question. But i think we'll get someone. Treloar, Shiel, Sloane etc.. Some good ones OFC.

Whilst I would love Shiel or Treloar at the club I really really want to keep our first round draft pick. We are going to have to give up a bit to get one of these guys, from both a financial and draft pick perspective. The ideal outcome is if we save our dollars to throw at a big fish through free agency and retain our first round pick.

I really should let go of this Dangerfield pipe dream, but he is the exact player we need. I wonder if we could get him to consider Saints if we threw an outrageous front loaded contract at him. What if our offer was 40% more than the Cats? You just never know.

We then match whatever offer Steven gets (I still think we could afford to do so) as the compensation would be screwed by the Dangerfield signing anyway. We walk away from the draft retaining Steven, adding Dangerfield and potentially a Darcy Parish type. In 2-3 years when all new young guns will start demanding more money, Dangerfield's heavily front ended contract would be starting to reduce and probably all of Reiwoldt, Montagna, Fisher & Dempster are off the list creating a lot more cap room to retain the kids.

I am getting ahead of myself but the midfield rotation would look something like this: Dangerfield, Steven, Billings, Acres, Dunston, Parish, Armitage. That is outrageously good, and not completely out of the question.

Think if the Crows players know Dangerfield is leaving then all of their managers will be talking up how they would be open to offers as well .
Just so they can all get a cut of some of the extra money Adelaide will have when Dangerfield goes.
Most of the rumours will just be bullshit spread by mischievous ( money hungry) managers.
Id love to have Sloane but id just about bet my house he will stay.

Treloar actually averaged more goals last season, 5 more possessions a game too.
I stand corrected then but still think Shiel is the smarter of the two and tbh if we could land any of the gc or gws elite young kids would go along way to rebuilding the midfield

No doubt Shield will be gun, Treloar imo will be a bit better. But personally i think Hoskin-Elliot will become the best out of all of them.

Interesting exercise would be to list....

$500k targets:

$650k targets:

$750k + targets:

500k - Whitfield, Kelly, Stringer, Sheil...

650k - Wines, Treloar, Macrae...

750k+ - Sloane, Dangerfield...

2mil - Cameron...

If Boyd is worth 1.25mil a season then Cameron's contract is going to be INSANE.

I dare say Whitfield and probably Kelly would be in the 650K bracket and the 3 in the 650K bracket would all need at least 750K to be willing to come to us I reckon. Treloar may need at least 800K PA, given how many big clubs are likely to be offering him a big pile of cash. Danger probably about a mil.

Need to remember that there is a very good chance that the salary cap will go up significantly after the next TV rights deal has been negotiated and as such if we can get any of them on a long term deal it may end up being really good value in the 2nd half of it.

The only thing is, is it really worth paying one of them that much money when we'd almost certainly have to give up our first pick in order to get them and when we could probably get someone just as good as them with that pick, only for a fraction of the cost?

I'd probably just be happy to bank a Mathieson, Parish, or Tucker and be on my way and offer a huge amount of money to someone who is eligible to come to us via FA.

Speaking of that group, here is an article on them from the AFL website: http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-01-21/early-draft-analysis
