Would you be happy with him if he was available at our first pick, (assuming Weitering, Schache & Francis are gone)?

I'm happy to defer to those that have seen more of Parish & co this year... today's game certainly helped push me in his direction (he was quite poor in the SA game) as he was clearly the cleanest mid on the ground today.

I do like something about Tucker though...he just seems very poised & I like the way he covers the ground & disposes of it. Dunkley will be a brute in a few years...

From what I've read and to a lesser extent seen surely our first, assuming we go for a mid, would have to be between Parish, Dunkley (assuming he doesn't nominate), Tucker & Mathieson?

So we need Pick 4 & Pick 7?

Such a long way to go till any choices need to be made. Trout was very clear in his belief that performances at the Champs are only one small part of the decision making process. Numerous kids use the experience of playing champs to launch into the 2nd half of the TAC/WAFL/SANFL season & really emerge as top line talents. So many injuries have clouded the debate as well (Parish still getting going after his hand injury for example).

You never know, a kid might come from the clouds ala that tall member of the Dal Santo family from the Bullfrogs... or the guys that you mentioned might be the ones that we choose from.

Geelong did have Joel Corey - 190cm+ - stayed throughout the 3 premierships as a key player.

Hawthorn didn't have any hugely tall midfielders, but Isaac Smith is 188cm and Jordan Lewis is 186cm.. so not exactly short.

So, we don't have ANY 185+ cm midfielders, except

Blake Acres - who's more of a defender.
Dylan Roberton - more of a defender.

Feel free to add any more, but the point remains, we don't have any 185cm+ midfielders who start in the centre square. Having these can be critical as they can reach any ruckman taps directed towards them.

Our true last 185cm+ midfielder who started in the centre square was Lenny Hayes - who was really tall for his era at 186cm.
In the VFL and against Essondon IIRC Blake satred in the circle

Acres is not more of a defender. Played Mid for the colts and pushed forward for WA.

Parish has been great today... racked up the possies, plenty inside & used it by both hand & foot very well. 29 touches.

Under ager Ainsworth kicked 5 snags, Weitering solid, Schache had an off day, Tucker 21 touches & used the ball well.
How was Mathieson/Rice/Clark/? Could only watch a little bit of it. Was Tucker playing half back again? Looked like he was up around the ground a bit more.

Petrevski-Seton looks a star.. we'll have him next year thanks

Acres is a midfielder.

Seb Ross is 187cm.

Isaac Smith doesn't spend a lot of time in the centre square.

Jordan Lewis is 1cm taller than Jack Billings, who is 185cm

Oh I'm not saying that would get it done - I was responding to the poster by saying that trade is what we would only likely entertain....

Treloar is a gun but I'm not keen to give up our 1st pick for him.....we would need a pick in the 1st round regardless and I don't see how it would work....

I would trade pick 4 for Treloar.

If they offered their second round pick to go with it, I'd take it and run!

It's a good year to be looking for a midfielder :)

I think the question was whether we should prefer to get a tall midfielder.

My point is we don't have a premium center square player.

Seb Ross is still unproven. He might be good or he might not be. We don't know what his ceiling might be.

I agree Hawthorn is an outlier. But they have Will Langford (187cm) and Jonathan O'Rourke (188cm) coming up.

A lot of other teams do have 1-2 premium tall midfielders and more will be recruited like them. Pendlebury, Fyfe, Bont, Pav (he did play midfield), Cripps are stars (or upcoming ones) for a reason (and it's a combination of the versatility of being tall ). It's that a tall player provides a different midfield type and helps create mismatches.

Jack Billings - again, he's not playing midfield yet. Plus, 185cm is not the same as 190cm, but in another 2-3 years almost every team will have a tall midfielder, and we won't have a 190cm+ tall midfielder.

I'm struggling to see your point. Yes, Billings and Acres don't spend a lot of time in the middle yet because they are only into their 2nd year. I doubt Dunkley would come straight into out midfield either.

Do you think we need to target players around the 187 size because Hawthorn have Langford and O'Rourke coming through?

I remember when Chris Judd first started tearing it up, all the talk was about tall mids. Now Fyfe is doing the same, but how many terrific mids have their been in the mean time that are under 190cm?

What is a premium centre square player? Do they have to be tall?
I agree we need another really good midfielder, but I'm not sure his side is that important.

Acres has the potential to be the player you're talking about. Ball magnet. Be patient

Crazy, unlikely what if... but what if Markworth with his speed, height and footskills finally shows a bit in the second half of the year, especially on the wing? Does that change our drafting priorities?
