Just reported on Ch7 Blues front runners for Carlisle, its a 4 year deal on the table with a trigger for a 5th.

I wouldn't be so sure they're the front runners. I'm lead to believe that it will come down to Blues and Saints, money will be a big factor but so will environment, team success and the club that has the best "fit". No promises but we are in this up to our eyeballs.

If Carlisle isn't fussed about whether it's us or Carlton then Carlton would have to be a huge shot given that they have an earlier 2nd rounder and will also likely get picks for Henderson and Yarran, maybe even an end of first rounder for Kreuzer. They could have a lot of picks to play with.

My stab in the dark at a Carlisle trade- 2015 & 2016 2nd round picks.

As we all know, the key is to get him to choose us then the pressure will be on Essendon. If they don't deal with us then they lose him for nothing to their absolute most hated rival.....and we walk away with our heads held high.

Absolutely no way we include pick 5 in any deal. NOOOOOOOOOOOO WAAAAAAAAY.

Would be 27 both years IMHO (we move up a few spots next year) and more attractive next year with deeper draft than say carltons second (could be third with FA) this year in shallow draft

Gives bombers two decent rebuilding picks, leaves us with a top pick for midfield.

Depends on how they rate next year's draft, if it were two 2nd rounders this year then it wouldn't get it done considering this years draft doesn't run very deep

Then yes that would be enough IMO, in the end he has more power over Essendon and could just walk to PSD

Essendon say "We will think about it." then go to Carlton and see if they will match the offer with their better picks... Our best chance is to use pick 5/7/9 and try to get a package deal in return.

I really dont care if we get Carlisle or not .
I think this years draft we should be targeting midfielders and planty of them , especially good kicking ones . Happy to wait for Rory Thompson next year .

Assuming we can't get a deal done for our 2nd alone:

Ross and our 2nd for Carlilse (I'd want something back from them cause I think that's probably overpaying but the core of the trade is there) is interesting if we rate Mathieson highly and expect he'll be there at our first.

Maybe we'd otherwise be reluctant to take Mathieson cause we can't see how he fits into the team without displacing one of Dunstan/Ross so we trade Ross for a decent return to open the spot up. This would give us an upgraded inside mid and give us a quality key defender. However, it doesn't solve our outside issues. Maybe that's a job for next year (Kelly/FAs)?
