I saw Hogan coming through the ranks and he was pretty impressive- no doubt that he would make it. I just don't get the same feeling with Paddy, although I want him to succeed.

I don't get what you mean then?

You want Roo to retire to allow McCartin more game time, in effect, throwing him in the deep end, but at the same time have reservations about Paddy succeeding as a footballer..... I would have thought the worst possible thing to do would be to throw him in the deep end without the protection of Roo out there sharing the focus of the defenders & not allowing him to develop at his own rate (instead of trying to fast track it when he's not really ready)

There is not a forward in the comp who would have played well for Saints in the back half of our last 2 seasons. Both years we have been putrid in the second half of the year, 2014 more so. Josh Kennedy on the weekend is a prime example of a quality forward still needing decent service in order to perform well. When we play well Roo still dominates, and he is still our best player. His last 2 years have been exceptional.

Let's say we do land Carlisle, a Mathieson and then snag a major recruit such as a O'Meara next year. It is not out of the question we are pushing for finals 2017. If Roo is still playing footy at even near his capacity at the moment, we are much better placed if he is in the side.

Honestly, I don't know what else he could do to prove he still has the goods?
