Pick 68ish (hopeful of top 8 ;) ) for Taylor Walker $1m a year... We can have our own Buddy!

Any thought on Josh Jenkins? Would be 26 next year.

Jenkins is Petrie mark II. Beats up on the weaker teams and boosts his numbers but can be completely shutout by a decent defender.

As far as KPF go Walker is the obvious one, after that I would probably go Riewoldt but both of those guys love their club and would be unlikely to move.

I reckon our best bet though is to target one of the Dixon/Lynch from the GC. Could offer them a big contract without then having to relocate too far.

Dixon is an outright gun although can be rather injury prone.

one of Dixon,Day, or Lynch must be plausible because why else would you want 3 young kpf's

Hey, we're on a roll, let's chuck a big offer Cloke's way! Lol, wouldn't that make the Fat Controller's head spin around like Linda Blairs!

Alex Rance? Unless he's signed a contract I'm unaware of he's a FA at the end of next year. Being a tiger, Leppa might hold some sway and could be tempted to come up north. Ideal age and would be fantastic for our defensive stocks.

Well he has grown to like the place, so perhaps the club should still be confident in retaining him?

Wasn't him and his manager in contract negotiations a few weeks back?

Was not thrilled to head to Brisbane when he was drafted with pick No. 7

Why did you selectively use half a sentence without using the other half?

but, like Ollie Wines at Port, Aish has grown to love the place.

And so give exactly the opposite spin on it? Poor form, IMO.

Is Dixon or Lynch out of contract next year?

Is it ever too early to look forward. I don't think so and especially with where we sit currently. It is evident where our needs are in relation to plugging the gaps within our team. The current problem is where the mids age is at in comparison to our KPP's. My one and only concern is that we again have to use our high end draft picks to bring quality players in. I wasn't overly concerned this year as we brought in 7 draftees last year which look like that they will bring something to the team. We still need to be bringing in quality youngsters.

As others have noted Walker should be a target and irrespective of what he thinks about the AFC or free agency it is quite evident that money talks and makes people walk. Darling has been spoken about as another but at what cost, is he pick in the 20's or do we need to generate a pick in the teens? I feel
we will have a pick under 10.

What about down back, I think Rance is entrenched in the Melbourne football scene. But we also do need an addition down back. Birchall is that quality ball user off half back we need.

Most would say that the mids are not a concern but I would like to think that Jack Stevens would be one to look at. One of our strengths is speed (who would have thought a few years ago) and he definitely would add to that and he is a free agent. I don't think that it would take much to pry him from St K as they are interested in generating early draft picks.

In summary, let's utilise free agency as best as we can whilst it is in it's current form. Keep our first rounder and again draft a quality youngster. Tell everyone that we won't be using our second rounder on Keays (will go third round) and use that to possibly trade.

So were Dayne Beams and Collingwood, now he's a Brisbane player.

Lets hope he doesn't get the second year blues so if he does decide to leave we'll get close to maximum value for him. I'm over it, if he stays, great, if he leaves, we draft a kid who is happy to be here.

I'd be staggered between Schwab, Swann, Leppa, Matthews and Warren that their planning and strategies would not be centred around a free agency big fish considering the cap space. A good year on ground and I would think it would be obvious the Lions can offer opportunities in a team climbing back up the ladder. A key forward like Walker should be number 1 on the priority list if you ask me.

Walker is worth throwing the $$ at but it will be very hard to get him to Brisbane IMO. It might depend on how the Crows go and how he gets on with the new coach. I would expect the Crows to have plenty of $$ as well. Maybe if Danger goes he decides to leave as well.

Aish will be very interesting. If he goes, i dont think it will be the worst thing in the world. I think with Beams and Bundy coming in it somewhat lessens him moving on, and we will get a good pick back. Potential good academy draft next year with Keays as well, so wouldnt be terrible to have a couple of good quality mids coming through a few years after our big crop of the 13 draft.

In saying all that, i hope we keep him, just looks a quality player. Just wont be chicken little if he goes. We have to create a club people want to be at and come to, and i think we are doing that. But even then, you will still have 1 or 2 that slip through.

Definately a selling point as well as the weather.
Might be a long bow, but I wonder if asadagate has helped us a little bit in that "fishbowl" regard, and players are as burnt out by the intense media coverage as the fans are...?

I feel we already have the nucleus of a very damaging forward line in the likes of McStay, Freeman, Close and Andrews. All we need is someone like McGuane/Merrett/Staker to play forward and protect the kids while they develop over the next couple of years.

The last list I saw on FA next year had Hawkins listed... We all know he loves the cats but we'd have to at least give it a run. One of Hawkins or Walker would get us to competing for a home final at least IMO.
