Why so many don't have much confidence in our system beats me. Breust, Langers, Doc and Litherland spent time in the twos learning their trade, and the Hawthorn way, but we want to bring in an AA mid at an astronomically high salary, that could upset many of our players, just when this group of youngsters are about ready to have break out seasons. Preparing players has been an old and proven method at Hawthorn, and I for one am happy to leave the player management to the club.
Couldn't agree more thaihawk,well said

If only we had 2 million to spend like Collingwood. They are getting:
Treloar - 750
Kreuzer - 650
Aish - 600
Maybe they should trade Cloke like Dunstall suggested to free some salary cap space?

I know I'll be in the minority here, but what about picking up Stevie J for a year ala Stewie Dew fashion? I hate the bastard in the Navy blue and white hoops, but can still play and would be handy up forward rotating through high half forward. Anti Geelong Bias aside.

Please go easy on abusing me for the thought ;)

Only if we get Chad Wingard as well.

Then when the ball goes into our forward line they can play Sweet Georgia Brown and we can all sit back and watch the harlem globetrotters do their tricks

aish at 600K?
surely not

These ~$600,000 deals are being quoted frequently for players yet to prove a lot. I think this is the new mid-range deal once the new TV deal kicks in to the salary cap. Wouldn't be surprised if Collingwood is staggering deals to account for when this kicks in.

And if they get Treloar, based on what GWS is asking - they won't have anything to offer the Lions for Aish - and hopefully the Lions don't forget the pricks the Pies were during the Beams deal.

"Bennell was taken at pick No.2 in the 2010 AFL Draft and has limitless talent on the footy field.

One list manager says despite losing the whip hand, the Suns could still demand a late first-round pick.

There is also a school of thought that clubs would trade a top-10 pick in exchange for Bennell and one of Gold Coast's later picks.

It currently has an end-of-first-round compensation pick and one early in the second round.

The more clubs involved, the better it is for Gold Coast, and it's believed up to four have enquired about him already.

AFL.com.au understands premier Hawthorn has cooled on Bennell, while St Kilda and Essendon had flagged some interest before the latest incident. "

Still don't understand why there's been no mention of us being interested in Treloar. He is exactly the type of player we need moving forward.

The only explanations I can think of are;

1. we enquired and he made it clear he was not interested in a move to our club
2. we do not believe he is worth 700k price tag hence why we have had no involvement.
3. We are well and truely into another player of similar of talent and ilk.

Really hoping its the last one because it's frustrating to watch Collingwood land yet another of the competitions elite youngsters.

Do you really care what a bunch of supporters are going to tell you he is worth?

Hypothetical trade suggestions are the biggest waste of space on bigfooty.

"I think player A is worth pick 12"
"Well I think you'd have to give some thing back!"
"I think he's worth pick 12 and a third rounder swap"
"I still think we would want your 1st rounder"
"You're not getting our first rounder"

And on and on it goes.....may as well argue with your nephew about the price of unicorn tears.

And for those playing at home, that means, hypothetical trade musings or suggestions aren't going to last long in this thread.

I'll trade you one hypothetical trade thread for a wheres North Melbourne at and 2 Richmond membership threads

You'd have thought we would just look to put in place whatever deal we were planning for Dylan Shiel.

I have to say that paying out those kind of wages and handing over whatever is required to make the trade happen doesn't make anywhere near as much sense as bringing in a proven player through FA for a few quid more and giving nothing up on the trade table. Which could be your point 3.

Hope you don't mind me commenting here guys, was lurking on your threads before Fridays big game.

I think you guys are right with saying no to Kruezer but i'd be interested to see what Lycett might be worth to you guys in a trade?

No offence to your (awesome) list but I can't see anyone there we would be keen on that you guys would give up so might have to be picks?
Is he worth your first?
Brad Hill would provide your lot with outside run and could be open to going home. Doubt we'd be willing to part with him for just Lycett though.

Given where we are with our list, irrespective of the outcome of I also this year, it is the time to start trading out a little to get a stronger mid term base. There is little to no currency in the Mitch/Hodge/Burgoyne group other than to us, Roughy is too important at the moment, so I was think about Lewis. Been up and down a bit for mine, not elite but very good. Can his work be covered by Langford, Shiels and others and if so, worth using for a younger inside mid?

Lewis isn't going anywhere.

Is that you, Vossy?

I imagine not and it us not something I'm advocating but it is this calibre of player we might need to consider if the wish list presented in this thread is to be achieved.
We won't rob Peter to pay Paul. We've got ways of getting what we need without doing that.

Report of Kreuzer going to Pies for $2 million over 4 years resulting in the Blues getting pick 2 as compo. Makes pick 19 for a once in a generation forward look fair enough, f me.
