The issue with Marshall from my perspective is that, historically, junior production is the best predictor of future success for key forwards - much more than for other positions. More often than not, if you don't perform in the under 18s as a key forward, you never perform at AFL level. Marshall's production seems to have been pretty poor and well below expectations.

Now, it is of course not foolproof, and Marshall could be an exception. That's for the recruiters to decide. That said, though, it's easy to get swayed by athleticism and potential - there's a bit more to it than that though, for key forwards especially. Marshall fails arguably the most important test of all for his position.
Yeah it's a definite concern but champion data still have him ranked 29th of the draft crop so his production can't have been that terrible.

I also think his agility and speed would be very appealing to us. We currently seem to value forward pressure & impacting or halving contests far more than marks or goals so the traditional measures for a forwards production may not concern us.

I like him at 19 and I think he is a great compliment for Boyd. Something about his clean takes and the way he move remind me of Jeremy Cameron.

we have the luxury of time on our hands if we do draft English, both Roughead and Campbell are both mid 20s and boyd is still only 21, this rucking combo can stick together with any luck for another 4-5 years.

we don't have the pressure to bring in English straight away, he can Develop his game at VFL level in all 3 areas if we wish, and we can tailor his development to what we want.

People need to forget about the Grants jones cordys wrights panos' ect of the world that we couldn't develop, we now have our own VFL side who in the 3 years its been around has won 2 flags. we control how we want our players to play and where, we know longer have them playing development Footy with Williamstown.

Our Development system is much better these days and will only get stronger, the one thing this premiership has done is that we now have the money coming in that we can beef up our footy department if we want.

so for guys like english or marshall if Dal thinks they are worth using pick 18 on, then i'm all for it as i know trust our development systems.

Champion data ranked Bonti in the 60s, Honeychurch was 15th.

The data isn't always right, potential / ceiling is the aim. Having said that, KPFs are a weird bunch - pretty much every one that has come in and done well at AFL level has dominated u18s, with a few left field selections as outliers (Kurt Tippett & Jack Redpath are two).

Cedric Cox would be a great get at pick 26, wouldn't mind him even at 18. Saw him play in one of the finals. He didn't do a lot across half back, so they pushed him up to half forward. I think he only had 10 possessions, but I counted 3 of his possessions were direct goal assists and another 4 of his possessions ended up up in scores from scoring chains. He also kicked a goal himself. Very damaging player and can kick it very well on both sides of his body. His tackling and defensive work rate is already high quality as well. Improved a lot as the season went on. He's a very driven character apparently, so he's someone that should do good in a full time environment.

Is Kerr too much of a reach at our second pick? Why is he rated below Battle and Marshall?
Think Kerr is just a forward while Battle and Marshall have a bigger tank and can play different roles

I think he could slide to our 3rd pick to be honest. Not a good athlete that lacks a bit of presence and is not a great size at 193cm. I have serious doubts on him making the grade.
reece mckenzie mk 2?

I think with Marshall it's important to factor in that AFL hasn't been his first sport and he's never had a proper pre-season, so his potential for growth is far greater than most players he would be compared against. Evaluating the potential against those with greater current output is pretty much what Dal does better than anyone, if he is for Marshall, I'd be very excited to get him.
