Well overdue for me to start a dedicated draft thread, particularly given how we're travelling this year. I'll start by shamelessly self promoting my work already...

2016 Young Talent Time has my player rankings and mock draft, so lots to read in there. While the 2016 U18 Championships is the complete guide to the Champs with squads and player profiles.

Unfortunately we don't have a second round pick at the moment, something the club will have to work on. Hopefully compo picks are a pleasant surprise. But what we will have is likely a top 5 pick, and picks in the third and fourth rounds shouldn't be too bad this year. I'd be reasonably confident of finding some late round gems, upgrades on some of our fringe players at least.

So in short, what does this draft offer? Not much for tall forwards really. There's hope and potential, but nobody is really performing yet. And for tall defenders, arguably three of the top five are Academy players - but definitely worth bids. There are some impressive medium tall types at either end though, and I don't think too many would be upset with upgrading the likes of Mayne, Ibbotson and Sutcliffe...

I know in previous years, we'd have been angry about it...but it's a midfielders draft. And this year has really been an eye opener in regards to our midfield. So that's likely where our first pick will be going, plenty of run and skilled players on offer.

So even if the rest of the year has been a waste, at least draft season will be fun!

With our first pick I hope we pick up someone with a solid build. Petrevski-Seton Is going to be a great player but is he the solid, nuggety player with power and strength around the packs and stoppages we need ?

Weve got enough powerful and strong mids. I think our needs for a michael walters 2.0 is a bit more important than another 190cm midfielder.

Well the powerful strong mids we have must not be doing their job. You ain't going to get the ball to another Walters mark 2 if you can't get the ball into our forward half. A player 180-185cm is something we should be after. Fyfe should be the only one in the middle that size.

We got bennell back and Hughes got the versatility to play mid as well.

There's really only one player who truly fits that bill - Will Brodie.

Most of the other top midfielders are more the clean inside/outside types. Someone like a Robbie Gray who wins his share of clearances through skill, but doesn't really impact the stoppages with size or strength. Which is where Petrevski-Seton fits. Along with the likes of Ainsworth, McCluggage and McGrath. Or big bodied flankers with midfield potential like Venables.

The better 'strong' stoppage winners seem to be settling around the start of the second round, maybe back end of the first. Like Scharenberg and Graham. But I tend to think there's enough depth to go best available first, and look to fill specific midfield needs later.

1) SPS
2) Pepper
3) Rotham

My rankings.

I have Rotham well ahead of Pepper for the following reasons:
1000000% better foot skills
Could play as our 3rd tall in defence almost immediately, an area of great need given MJs and Ibbo's decline and for mine he has much greater potential than Hughes.
Potential to develop into a tall mid like Mundy with elite foots kills
Last but not least, you ALWAYS pick a West Perth boy over an East Perth boy!

Dunno if this is the "issue"

Surgery can't fix this issue.

Pepper is very explosive like Dangerfield, and Dangerfield isn't known for his elite kicking.
Hughes will be an excellent player for us.
Rotham will ultimately end up as a mid, I agree with you there
West Perth and East Perth could disappear into the Indian Ocean and I would not lose any sleep

Rotham will be a very good player. Actually our top end talent is very, very good.

Wonder what your thoughts are on English? He just looks so agile for a big man, yet still solid. Like a ruck version of Alex Pearce.

Yep, I'd have him in front of Pepper due to our lack of quality talls and ruck depth.

Of the WA boys I'd have them;

SPS
Rotham/English
Pepper
Bolton
Fisher

From the little I've seen of the others I really like McGluggish and for value late in the draft, Jok.

Good news:thumbsu:

Every cloud has a silver lining

Yeah I like it.

The only player I'm torn on is Michael Barlow.
Would prefer to keep him, but if a high second lobbed in our lap it would be tempting.

But the rest:
Clarke, Hannath, Mayne, Ibbotson, C.Pearce, Mzungu, DeBoer, DeLuca, Morabito...They're done

Yep, its quite easy to come up with the 10 - 12. Pav will retire and possibly Jonno. They may give up on Hurley and Grey is looking shaky too.

It actually reflects poorly on our list managers that it's got to this level again but I guess the wins last year clouded their judgement.
