Theres rumours Pickett will be joining Marchbank at Carlton next year. Would this be once again us taking someone off your books to relieve salary.
I know Pickett was pick 4 a couple years ago, and has been injured this year. But have heard constant talk that he is lazy. Not sure why SOS would target this sort of player unless we would be doing you a favour getting him off your books like last year with Jed Lamb

Here's why I said rookie:

1) The rookie year gives you options. If the kid is performing at the level required at its end then you can promote him to the senior list for season 2018. If he is competitive he can push for selection.

2) We can't tell his relative value compared to the newer kids. As such I'd rather have him on a one year deal so that when you're weighing up opportunities and the like between him and say Bam Bam you can make a better choice.

3) Patton is different to Ahern. Patton was playing seniors when he did his second knee. He is a KPF. We do need to stand by Ahern (as we should stand by Pickett) but losing your second year to injury in a team where competition for spots is high is nowhere near meaning you're a required player. Should you be given an opportunity? Yes. Should it be for a standard two years? Not necessarily.

If you can sign him to a 12 month contract without needing to put him on the rookie list, then that might be a better outcome. I thought two years was standard for young players, but if it isn't I think an extra 12 months would be good.

As for potential as a junior... Tim Golds was going to set the world on fire. Still waiting...
Great post.

I agree and dont want to throw money at a kid to keep him on the list due to his "potential".... its not 2012

Just to be clear im not advocating trading him- just pointing out he hasn't proved significant worth as of yet and if he wants out it won't be a huge loss

Picket is a waste unfortunately
Difficult with young indigenous talent living away from home staying motivated when a) untried b) depth behind some serious talent and c) injured. Not an uncommon outcome.

2 questions.

How bad is his foot?

What in all seriousness would you think is his transfer value?

I agree with you're post. I don't know the guy personally but am very uncomfortable calling a guy who is injured a waste. I also cant see a lazy footballer getting onto an AFL list.
He was on the verge of a debut early this year before his injury from what I saw.
I'm not sure anyone knows how he will come back, so I couldn't guess a value. They're are other posters more knowleable rhan me who frequent this thread and will leave that to them.
It may be though he doesn't have a great future with us with Toby and Devon in front and a stated intention from our list manager to seek a small forward with defensive pressure. Hard to see either of those being pushed out and I can see him competing with Will Hoskin-Elliot as well.

I think that is a popular generalisation about indigenous players. If you look at the overall stats of them playing the game they are no more difficult to hold than any other kids.

There are unique cultural aspects but we have actually had far more trouble keeping our spoilt Melbourne kiddies from the clutches of mummy and daddy.

Plus his parents moved over when he did.

They didn't initially. They were going to move over at some point in his first year, but I've never been able to find out if they actually did or not.

Marchbank toured the pies today.. Hopefully he was impressed as the thought of WHE and Marchbank in Black and White next to Treloar next year would be exciting.. What sort of trade would we be looking at to get a deal done??

You will struggle to get a deal done for marchbank. WHE would prob require an upgrade on your 2nd
