Yes I have seen and followed him at Casey. He didn't play a senior game this year - how else would I determine his progress?

His tap work is excellent and if we didn't have Gawn for any periods of the year, he would have made a good back-up.

I would say he's easily in the top half of back-up rucks in the comp.
He's been good at casey, but you're extrapolating a bit far with that last comment.

Fair enough, just wanted to check as my only memories of him are from his AFL games and he's been a good trier at best.

I agree he's a really solid back-up - if he's adding some nice ruck craft to his game, that's great and I'm happy to have him on the list.

Still reckon we need to find a ruck/forward - either in trade/draft unless one of the Kings fits the bill.

We are in agreement here. His main weakness is that it's really only his tap work that is quite good.

He's also strong, with a physical presence, and does do some good blocking and even tackling around the contest - but if he could float back or forward and take a mark, we would find a spot for him in the 22.

Peter Wright and Rory Lobb are the 2 up and comers that play the perfect forward who can ruck roles.

He's good at casey at floating forward and kicking a few. Gets lost when the speed picks up at afl level

Being a ruckman pretty much puts a player in the top 25 ruckmen in the comp.

No it doesn't.

Your list goes over 35 deep for pure ruckmen, and you can throw in another 20 who didn't play an AFL game this year.

3-4 rucks on a list is about average so that gets us to about 60-65 ruckmen if you include rookies.

My original point was that Spencer is well worth having on our list, particularly given we no other real options than Gawn.

Spencer would get a spot on most AFL lists as a back up ruck and would probably be number 1 ruck at 2 or 3 clubs.

He's a fine back up, but he wouldn't be a number 1 ruck anywhere. He loses the game too quickly when he steps up, he lacks pace and awareness. If we delist spencer he won't play afl again

I was being slightly tongue in cheek, but regardless, there aren't 60-65 genuine ruckmen on AFL lists. The likes of Ryder, Tippett, Lycett, Smith, Stanley, Trengove, Roughead, Boyd, Blicavs, etc etc are all ruck forwards / backs etc.

Spencer is worth having on the list because we have no one else. He's not in the top 25 rucks in the league unless you want to eliminate the names and their ilk mentioned above. The guy is nearly 27 and has played 36 games... he's an honest tryer and that's about it.

I'm loving your support for the muss Demon 16! Unfortunately I think he may be getting a holiday for striking after today's game. Would be shattering to miss the GF but it didn't look good. High contact, pretty reasonable impact as the guy looked stunned. Here's hoping they don't cite him.

I'll still happily delist Dawes and lamumba
Good point. That will satisfy my delist thirst while not risking anyone I've become attached to.

Edit: though I would support retaining Lamumba in some kind of unpaid, ambassadorial capacity. Mostly because he's showing signs of a return to form in the weird-cat stakes and it would be disappointing not to be able to share in some of it.

Assuming Tami Roos isn't doing meditation with the squad next year, maybe Lumumba can do that. But with a 'Rastafarian twist' if you know what I mean...

H makes us a worse side most of the time, IMO. His kick long and hope game died around the time MM left Collingwood.

Going into bat for H, but i think when he was playing the early round of this year he was not bombing it long he was finding targets. Was very good in round 3 and 4 i reckon. i think before his run of concussions, he did away for kicking it long

Agree he was great vs North and Collingwood, but those are the only two games he's played well in for us. Really wouldn't be against him retiring and going to the draft, provided Taylor has his eye on someone late.

Plus he would free up salary cap space.

Do you think?

I'm basically saying he's in the top 25 or so ruckmen in the comp.

Can you name me many more than 25 better ruckmen, without including guys that play primarily forward?
Just for arguments sake

Jacobs
Martin
Kreuzer
Phillips
Grundy
Witts
Leuenberger
Bellchambers
Sandi
Griffen
Clarke
Smith
Mumford
McEvoy
Ceglar
Gawn
Goldstein
Ryder
Lobbe
Hickey
Longer
Naismith
Naitanui
Lycett
Minson

That's 25 dead on. Would also question Hampson, Nankervis, Nichols and Daw.

Good effort.

I still think I'm around the mark at 'not many more than 25'.

No it wasn't.

I presume you are supporting me here.

He is becoming a very good tap ruckman.
He's a good tap ruckman at casey, loses too much going up a level
