Yes . It was awful and Nat assisted C7 in skewing the story towards his intention to use FA to absolutely squeeze the maximum amount out of the club.
It was heavily slanted towards his self worth and really, it was disturbing.
It has left me with the impression that the scuttlebutt we hear from time to time about disharmony between the players and Nat, may have some bassis in fact.
What is wrong with wanting the most money you can get in your job?

It is quite possible that Nat believes the future of the club revolves around him.
Yeah, he didn't handle that well at all

Nothing. You have missed my point entirely.
Nat may be an outstanding player but, that may be all there is to him. That may not be a bad thing in the minds of some but I bet many would think he's a fig jam.
His Brownlow speech may have been a slick con job. Fooled me.

Channel 7 owns the West Australian, which has its tongue so far down the Eagle's pants, it can taste the tinea in their socks.

That being said, it wasn't a good look for Nat, and it really made him sound like a big enough plonker to actually play for the Eagles.

At best, he was playing the media to try and land himself a pay-raise (which he deserves imo)... at worst, he's gotten too full of himself to keep touch with reality.

Sadly - Fyfe's comments reminded me of an old truism, from an old ad-man: "Spend enough time in this business, and 'the real world' becomes those tiny little lights outside your airplane's window."

The media spun it to make the storry worse, but Fred is right - it was painful to watch.

Fyfe should have known better - never seen such a grounded and decent bloke, be made to look like such a self-absorbed w***er, in such a tiny period of time.

If fyfe was to be the next captain, one would hope he would sign for a reasonable sum - 800k? So that the club can pursue a few A graders without being crippled by the wage of one A+ player.

Interesting. Most contracts are now being timed to hit free agency

More to it than that Lach.
The interview was skillfully manipulated to portray Nat and the club, or more to the point the relationship between the two in a very negative way. It's probably been heavily edited too.
Personally, I now have a different opinion of him. Suffice to say Carbuncle head Barich was beaming.

If there really is a problem with how he perceives himself, then having an interview that he will get a fair bit flak from the public over I'd say it is actually a really good thing. Nothing brings a person back to Earth better than the public turning against them imo. No doubt he will quickly realise the mistake he has made and assuming he is intelligent enough (which he is) he'll reassess and compensate accordingly. I don't mind a little bit of arrogance/cockiness in high performers but only when they can respond appropriately from situations like this. If he follows the path of some of our young Australian male tennis players then his brand he has worked hard to build over the past few years will plummet in value. Prior to the off season sounds like ideal timing to have a soft reset on his brand.

edit - after watching it, I'm not sure what the problem is. I'd say there is none unless it is a different interview you are talking about.

Have you watched it? Absolutely nothing wrong with the editing or what Fyfe said.

I'm not sure if I just watched the same interview you guys were talking about.

He said basically what Lachie Neale said. That he'd will look at all options. What exactly is wrong with that?

I'm with you and Lachie. That was as straight forward as you can get. There are a few shadow jumpers on here.

Barich - 'So, are you enjoying Fremantle'?

Fyfe - 'Love the club, can't imagine being anywhere else'

Barich - 'Ok, but you become a free agent... will you remain a Freo player'?

Fyfe - 'I'm WA born and bred, love it here. I have family, other interests... I'm going to be Fremantle for life'

Barich - 'There could be some big offers from other clubs'

Fyfe - 'Possibly, but I'm comfortable at where it sits'

Barich - 'I'm talking seriously dollars, don't you wish to have a say in your career'?

Fyfe - 'The idea of free agency is that players do get a say in their career and it would be remiss of me not to look at every possible option. But if I see a strong future at Freo, that is where I'll be playing my footy'

This would be an example of the sort of tripe that channel 7 would then chose to highlight. Anyone dumb enough to think Barich sat down with him for 3 answers worth of questions is just plain dumb.

Nothing at all but that is not what went to air. They've left out about half.
I reckon Nat or his manager have intervened quickly. I bet C7 don't replay it. This is full on damage control.

Lach72 , Mate that is not the full video that went to air. Wow, Nat inferred the club is essentially auditioning for his services.
What you just saw is about half of what went to air.

Take a chill pill.

Wants his max value like every other player & will explore his options. Least he's upfront about it.

Team starts well next year & he will probably put pen to paper mid year.

If not, we get 2 1st rounders in 2018.
