I've not heard Jesse Hogan in any interview state he's going to 'explore every possible option.' That Fyfe has decided to go public and be so clinical is of course under the advice of his management so as to invoke the media into pressuring the Club and invite interest from other clubs. I prefer players that run the line that they are focussed on their footy and leaving it to their managers to sort it out even if they defer negotiations until the end of the year to concentrate on their footy. They are well within their rights to explore all options but as a teammate, I'd be disappointed with him engaging in the business of his contract so publicly. I don't recall Dangerfield taking this approach even though he'd likely decided to go home early in the piece. AFL.com.au already have an article up and there will be loads to follow.

Take a chill pill.

Wants his max value like every other player & will explore his options. Least he's upfront about it.

Team starts well next year & he will probably put pen to paper mid year.

If not, we get 2 1st rounders in 2018.
Often when a champion player leaves a club, the club he leaves benefits most.

I re-watched both linked videos above, and I agree that they are the exact same ones that went to air - which frankly I find flabbergasting.

On rewatching them, I agree there's nothing too untoward about the content... but I also know that my initial reaction to the original content was entirely different, and I was very much of the same mind as Fred the first time I saw it... a few other posters were off the same mind too, so it's not an unusual response... we weren't alone in our impressions.

So why did more than a few people - including me - take such huge offense - at something that wouldn't offend me whatsoever on review?.

On reflection, I realised it comes down to the promos for that piece that preceeded it.

Carr and Aiden ran their usual pre-adbreak 'coming up' teasers about seven minutes before that story went to air. In those teasers they said: "Coming up... Nat Fyfe speaks candidly to adrian barich about free agency and his footballing future".

The second I heard that line, the hairs on my neck stood up and I felt the red mist coming on, as I expected another hack job by Channel 7 about Freo was on jt's way ( let's be honest... they have form in that regard)... and like a sucker, I fell for the obvious tease, and dutifully stood by annoyed as all shit, waiting for their latest hatchet job.

I took that attitude into that article, and when Barich started the piece with his comments about Fyfe talking about his future and needing to be sure that Freo can start winning again when making his decisions, i was even more pissed off.

My mood colored my perceptions so much, I took the things Fyfe was saying completely out of context (as did a lot of us who saw it) ...and frankly that was the Channel 7 scriptwriter's aim: to create discussion and buzz around their content, and drive up repeat viewing online, by colouring an article to suggest it was more controversial than it actually was (such behaviour from a news room... shock, horor gasp, right?)

They framed the story in their previous promo to provoke an emotional reaction from footy-mad viewers (either anger fro Freo fans at Fyfe's leaving, or hope from other viewers that he may go to their club). It was standard, run-of-the-mill emotional manipulation to keep people watching... and I bloody fell for it: hook, line and sinker.

Fyfe mate - I apologise... I worked in marketing and media for years, I should have known better. And Fred mate, don't feel too bad about it: other folks only saw the interview itself, ...but you and I saw the misleading and provocative promos that framed that simple interview as a sensationalised revalation ( hence all that 'exclusive to seven' bullspit.)

Anyone who says TV spin has no power anymore, is very much mistaken... those f**kers are as devious, overblown, crafty and manipulative as ever.

Having watched the interview i agree that there really wasn't anytthin alarming in it, just your stock standard interview with 7 pumping it up as big to gain views.

Also don't get upset at Fyfe talking about the possibility of leaving, you have to realise that Ross put this on the agenda for him before Fyfe had even said anything about it, it's only fair that Fyfey can look at opportunities anyway, its a commonly used tactic to up market value across all types of jobs.

As another point Fyfe has said if he sees the club going in the right direction then he will definitely want to be here, this is very encouraging as he has probably seen our drafting plan and would have had some input in it as a future leader of the club, if he had some problems with it they probably would have already been discussed/addressed.

Fyfe aint going anywhere.

Yes I took more positives than negatives out of that interview, but at the same time I am not surprised that the media have only highlighted the part relating to looking around due to free agency. I honestly think that all players will take a look via their managers when they get to that point, that's why it has been introduced.

He has been very positive about staying at Freo, wants us to get better, has the best facilities in the league to train in next year and will be the Captain.

Yep I am pretty positive about keeping him. If Fremantle have a season as bad as this again next year it will raise some doubt in his mind but I am also confident that we will improve significantly next year.

Fremantle will pay Nat what ever he's worth in the market place and not pay overs like the Bulldogs did with Tom Boyd. At least there isn't the go home factor in play here like it was with Judd and Dangerfield. I wouldn't read too much into the "It would be remiss of me if I didn't at least explore other offers from other clubs."

Nat is a WA boy and grew up supporting Richmond, not the Eagles. He has always put his family first and is destined to be a one club player and future captain. I can't see him leaving for big money to simply move east, however I'm sure we would be well and truly compensated if he did leave.

We have seemed to retain all of our required players since Jeff White left, whereas the Eagles lost Judd, Ebert, Selwood, Rosa, Stevens, Sinclair and Spangher.

Hogan isn't a free agent, he has limited options to explore.

Danger had the go home factor and said he would wait til the end of the season which is a nice way of saying I am going, Fyfe has said he will explore options, he may be exploring them now and re-sign by Rd 1 2017.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that interview whatsoever, he is correct it would be remiss of his management team to not explore every option especially now FA comes into play.

Haselby did the same at every contract extension, it's a good indicator as to what the market thinks he is worth. Interesting how honest he was re: injuries as that could potentially put a dent in his future earning capacity, if he doesn't return to the same level.

I feel nothing but positive vibes after watching that :thumbsu:

Fyfe has the potential to be our best player, is already a Brownlow winner, so I hope he gets 100% what he deserves in his next contract.

Obviously he should and would always weigh up his options - but there's a difference between that and inviting all the media speculation onto yourself

There's nothing wrong with the content of the interview - it's common knowledge anyway

My issue is that I feel he's made a mistake by laying with the devil

We know that Fyfe has his hopes set high for life after football. He could just be trying to keep all media on side by being as open as possible so he's in everyone's good books when he retires. Sucks for us as speculative supporters, but that's life of a football fan nowadays.

Man am I sick of every banal thing Fyfe does or says being twisted into some sensationalist doomsday scenario by a material-starved media. Actually report something credible for once you desperate, lazy hysteria-peddlers. Tedious as ****.

Shadow jumping has become a favourite pastime on here because of it.

Also talking all the Fyfe talk there is this:
