Keep pick 3, don't allow GWS any leeway or help, they've had more than enough in their short existence. Take the best available at 3. Buy GC numerous beers and butter them up to get our hands on some of their 2nd round picks. I know McCarthy is a need but we should assert some authority and not be bent over. Just my two cents but I would hate the club to be bent over by that arrogant club.
Whilst I agree that we shouldn't help GWS, if they keep loading up on talent and then offloading it after 2-3 years and we pick it up for unders....I'm all for it.

They would essentially want two picks in the top 8, as this will be pre- acedemy bids.

If we could turn 3 and 39, into 7 (handshake that we won't bid here), McCarthy, Pickett, 16?? Maybe.

Presuming we get pick 48(?) from the Eagles for Ballantyne. Pick 39 and 48 for McCarthy is the equivalent of about pick 26.

Mayne compo = pick 22 for Brad Hill.

I'd then guilt trip Gold Coast to giving us back our 2nd rounder this year for next year's.

Out: Ballantyne, Mayne, pick 39, next year's 2nd rounder
In: B.Hill, McCarthy, pick 21

I'm not sure I like it all that much to be honest.

GWS will end up with pick 5 but will have sweeten the deal with Marchbank (ie Pick 16)

How about the following;
Freo trade: 3 and 39
GWS trade: McCarthy, 5, 51
(GWS will then use 3 as trading power with Essendon to get pick 1)

Freo trade: Ballantyne, 51
West Coast trade: 30, 66

Freo trade: 66
Geelong trade: Kersten

Freo trade: Mayne Compo pick (2nd rd)
Hawks trade: Hill

Freo are left with the following picks:
5, 30, 57, 75

Then Barlow for a pick (range 35-45) to fill that gap between 30 and 57.

Not that I'm a huge fan but Suban and Conca as a direct swap. Zac Clarke resigns but if not, it is likely we get a third round compo which would be about pick 40.

So all our draft picks gone ?
AFL.com.au understands negotiations between the Dockers and the Giants could result in the clubs swapping late draft picks to bolster the Giants' points tally as they prepare to bid on academy graduates.

Fremantle's second selection this year comes at pick No.39.

This is also a possibility. Which would help everyone to stay calm.

Agreed, we should push for 5 & McCarthy for 3 if we are down grading. Still get a top 5 pick.

So Carlton trade 5 for Marchbank & ?
GWS trade 5 & McCarthy for 3
GWS trade 3 & 16 for 1 (or something similar)

1 - McGrath GWS
2 - Bowes GC (Bris nom matched by GC using picks other than 4)
3 - McCluggage Bris
4 - Brodie Ess
5 - Ainsworth or SPS GC
6 - English/Ainsworth/Marshall/SPS/ Freo

Still pretty good talent for Freo
Not sure it matters anyway if Afl.com have gotten it right, but after just watching the allstars game you can add toranto, bolton rotham. There appears to be a heap of talent in the top 10.

I'm not sure why the club isn't pushing to include Pickett in the McCarthy deal? If Pick 3 has to be included in the deal, then so should Pickett.
Depends on which info is correct. Afl.com seems to think we are going to be trading out low picks for mccarthy to give gws points for academy players. If the upgrade is happening it may be for pickett, who knows. Or possibly neither are right.

I don't think we'd be interested in Pickett especially if we're going after BHill. I'm not sure how many wing/half flank types we need especially when a contested footy game-plan is RTB's strength and the direction I feel we should be going.

Hawthorn play Lewis, Smith and BHill as genuine outside players and Bulldogs only play Hunter. We have outside midfield players on our list covered, we need everything else.

If Pickett's foot is fine he would piss all over Brad Hill. But isn't that the issue, no one knows if that foot is fine, or how long it can stay fine?

WB's were pretty slick on the outside, they just lacked skill. They would have won a lot more easily if they had of been able to hit targets. A mixture, is what I would prefer. Weller is very skillful and quick but is also excellent one-on-one. He wins the ball the first time often whereas a hard nut like deboer kept trying until he eventually won it/ halved it.
The Pickett thing was just speculation because of conflicting info about what we are doing with gws.

Considering the baggage McCarthy comes with I think a swap of Pick 3 for McCarthy and Pick 2 would be fair.

This is honestly how I feel some of our supporters are thinking right now. This baggage thing sounds like he's done three ACLs leading up to this trade period. Where as in reality he was all set to come back home to his family and mates and then GWS screwed up the trade. Knowing that he was gonna leave the next year there were probably some harsh words said so he went **** it and came home anyway.

His "baggage" is possibly the most exaggerated thing on this whole forum. He's an exceptional tall forward talent, who only wants to play for freo. Yet the amount of you blokes who are calling for us to just walk away at the thought of paying anywhere close to what he's worth is incredible.

You also don't make him sit out another season and drop his value to zero. GWS need to lose him of their list. We are in the box seat now. If Freo jump at an over the top deal I'm burning my membership.:) Its the 2016 membership but it will be symbolic.
By all means, get a good deal (in my opinion pick 40 is a very very good deal), but people are trying to suggest trades where he literally has negative value

They would have won easily if they had players in their forward 50 capable of taking contested mark. But that's another conversation and why they want Cloke.

Weller is good one on one? I don't think so, and if so he'd be playing as a midfield already. I think he'll improve his contested work but he has a long way to go.

I know the Pickett talk is just speculation and that he's a WA boy. I hope we get him over the 8 possession spud we may get in BHill.

This McCarthy trade would be so much easier if we had a second round pick because that's exactly what he's worth and what would get the trade done, everyone's happy.

All this talk of Pickett has got me wary, seems like they're could be trying drum up interest to off load him before he's out of contract next year.
While he's contracted and has a foot injury I wouldn't be going near him.

The talented 21-year-old kicked 35 goals in 2015 before returning to Western Australia early this year with homesickness.

AFL.com.au understands negotiations between the Dockers and the Giants could result in the clubs swapping late draft picks to bolster the Giants' points tally as they prepare to bid on academy graduates.

Fremantle's second selection this year comes at pick No.39 after it traded its second-round pick to Gold Coast for Harley Bennell during last year's trade period
.
Except we traded this years second for a second round pick last year, nothing to do with Harley.

That isn't how the bidding system works, GC will be forced to use their next available pick (4) if Brisbane bid on it.
If they could use lower picks the system would be an absolute sham.

Rejigging your scenario
1. McGrath - GWS
2. Bowes - GC
3. Luggage - Brisbane
4. Brodie - Essendon
5. SPS - Freo

the only sure thing from this is Mcgluggage wouldn't make it to our pick 3 or pick 5, I am 100% certain.
Essendon probably most likely to take Brodie if there is no McGluggage
Gws will obviously take McGrath
Brisbane are the ones we need to worry about as they may not bid on Bowes and that could screw us and gift SPS to GC which would mean trading down did actually cost us something

The bolded will not work as GWS are only allowed to take as many picks into the draft as they have spots on their list, this stops the combining of lower picks to be swapped for higher picks. It was a rule change made earlier this season.

GWS also have like 5 or 6 picks in the top 30 anyway which is why they probably won't take 39 from us, they will also be receiving even more picks in he top 30 through other trades although they may be requesting next years picks instead. AFL has seriously set GWS up for long term success, they keep trading out their scraps for first rounders and the cycle will just keep on happening.

But they haven't got a higher pick. They won't give up their first round pick for Cam. We should trump their 2nd round pick .

GWS scarcely care about 2nd round picks, it's their equivalent of round 4. I could see them making a worse deal with West Coast if GWS get it into there heads that we are campaigners. Or just to repay him for the hassle, ensure Cam doesn't fully get his own way by going to Fremantle.
