Little bit off topic but I think GWS should be generating as much goodwill from other clubs as they can. The AFL don't run football the fans do if we were to say boycott anything to do with GWS ie don't attend games , don't watch on TV , don't click on anything that mentions them and this started to snowball the AFL would be back peddling at 100 miles an hour
So GWS you have a great team , it will be great for a long time but you have no fans , no money and if you keep spitting in the face of the heart and soul supporters of the game we will rise up and burn your poxy little empire to the ground

If what I read about the GWS salary cap concessions being removed, bringing them into line with the rest of the competition, is true then they need to move over half a million extra out of their cap.

This season their concessions totalled $1,360,000 extra.

GWS and the Hawks both have to drop players, we should take advantage of that.

The sydney teams still get an advantage over everyone else.

10% for people earning under the average income, or roughly 400k a year.

That isn't how the bidding system works, GC will be forced to use their next available pick (4) if Brisbane bid on it.
If they could use lower picks the system would be an absolute sham.

Rejigging your scenario
1. McGrath - GWS
2. Bowes - GC
3. Luggage - Brisbane
4. Brodie - Essendon
5. SPS - Freo

the only sure thing from this is Mcgluggage wouldn't make it to our pick 3 or pick 5, I am 100% certain.
Essendon probably most likely to take Brodie if there is no McGluggage
Gws will obviously take McGrath
Brisbane are the ones we need to worry about as they may not bid on Bowes and that could screw us and gift SPS to GC which would mean trading down did actually cost us something

From what I understood they can make up the points anyways they can? I'm not 100% sure on it all though. The points system would ensure it wouldn't be a sham because they would have to give up 3 or so 2nd rounders to get close to pick 4 value. I hope you're right but.

I think Essendon would take Brodie in that scenario as they asked permission for him to play VFL aligned to them from memory.

Getting SPS works for me

GWS want to draft McGarth which will involve trading two first round picks for Essendon pick. They will need more points to draft their Riveria Kids. That will involve getting extra picks (points) from us and Carlton.

Sorry for the interruption but that's not correct.

Players under the average wage ($302k) receive a rental subsidy that is tied directly to housing costs. It's not a flat loading amount like COLA was.

Except we traded this years second for a second round pick last year, nothing to do with Harley.

The wording in that article is poor as Bennell was essentially traded for our 2015 first rounder once you balance all the picks out. But the swap of '15/16 2nd rounders was still part of what was a 2-part Bennell trade in the end. Evidence being GC giving back pick 35 that we gave them earlier, and how it happened right at the last second (i.e. was surely a pre-arranged part of the Bennell trade, probably contingent on McCarthy falling over).

I'm not sure why the club isn't pushing to include Pickett in the McCarthy deal? If Pick 3 has to be included in the deal, then so should Pickett.
They may be but not saying it out loud.

The minute they flag their intentions WC "are interested" and up goes his price

Pickett is not an injury risk IMO. There was a lot of excitement over here in Sydney about his future. He has had one season endjng injury. Plenty of players have them and are fine. If a player has multiple (ie bennell) then it becomes a concern.

Im still very worried about the first time bennel steps on the park

I don't think we'd be interested in Pickett especially if we're going after BHill. I'm not sure how many wing/half flank types we need especially when a contested footy game-plan is RTB's strength and the direction I feel we should be going.

Hawthorn play Lewis, Smith and BHill as genuine outside players and Bulldogs only play Hunter. We have outside midfield players on our list covered, we need everything else.
Pickett can and has played small forward very well. Ballas out pickett in

Been in Sydney for some time now.

Sydney housing is not just expensive, the housing stock is very poor. The average Sydney house is a dump compared to the average Perth house - so the gap you see in average prices only tells part of the story. On a like for like basis the cost of accommodation in Sydney is way more than the average price would suggest. On any given income, the standard of living here is much lower. In short, there really does need to be some acknowledgment of the difference - a single flat salary cap would be very unfair.

15k * 25 players is not far from 400k a year, and I bet Sydney would make sure they had the maximum number of players under the average income each year.

You're right about the standards. I think some assistance for young guys under the minimum wage is a good idea, but obv guys on the big money shouldn't be getting assistance. But I guess this probably isn't the best thread to discuss it! :)

Pickett can and has played small forward very well. Ballas out pickett in

No thanks, dont need another Josh Simpson. Although Pickett was a junior star playing against kids, i watched a few GWS reserve games and he just cant get near the ball and looks like he would be a decent wafl player at most. Would love if he proved me wrong but i think a small forward/mid rotation of Walters/Bennell/Weller is the way to go

They would have won easily if they had players in their forward 50 capable of taking contested mark. But that's another conversation and why they want Cloke.

Weller is good one on one? I don't think so, and if so he'd be playing as a midfield already. I think he'll improve his contested work but he has a long way to go.

I know the Pickett talk is just speculation and that he's a WA boy. I hope we get him over the 8 possession spud we may get in BHill.
I made the judgement on Weller based on his development stage, so whether he is ready to play in the midfield or not, is not an issue for me. He is a clever one-on-one player so that will give him an advantage when his physicality catches up to his ability.
I doubt Cloke would have made any difference if the WB running players kept kicking it to the opposition filling the space although he may have helped to stop Naismith from taking defensive marks without any apparent physical opposition. WB were fortunate that when the ball came to ground, their mid/smalls were good enough to make something of it. ...and (unlike us most of the time) they kicked most of their goals off snaps when they somehow managed to find themselves space.
As for Brad Hill, he may have had a specific role at Hawthorn that required him to be on the outside only. The biggest problem Freo are finding now that we are trying to play more of a running game, is that all of our players are (conditioned) trying to get involved in the contest instead of having a balance inside and out. It was something the Peel couch specifically referred to during the grandfinal. They were all being drawn in and he didn't want that. He wanted some on the outside to give spread and run.
A lot of your judgements seem to be based on Freo Ross mk1, I'm only interested in Freo Ross mk 2 and I hope they don't turn out to be the same thing.

In a competition where AFL standard players get 30,40,50 touches and a handful of goals, he gets 10 touches and maybe 2 goals.

AFL.com.au understands negotiations between the Dockers and the Giants could result in the clubs swapping late draft picks to bolster the Giants' points tally as they prepare to bid on academy graduates.

Fremantle's second selection this year comes at pick No.39.

This is also a possibility. Which would help everyone to stay calm.

The AFL have also indicated according to our friend Gentle Giant that GWS are losing their concessions re extra players and cap space. GG said they need to lose up to 7 players . If thats the case Cam will definitely be released for the late draft pick swaps.

Has had no preseason, and is having issues with foot which would limit his speed. Lets not right him off yet, if he can get over his issues with his foot then he should be fine.

I think we should look at him next year, if he has an injury free year

Emma Quayle tweeted that GWS come into line with every other club in regards to the salary cap in 2017....I don't know how to upload that kind of techno stuff!

Strange comparison
I think another player with the talent of Simpson is exactly what we need, not every talented indigenous kid is on Josh's sad trajectory
I do agree with go_the_dockers though, need to see if his foot handles a full season before looking at him

Brad Hill only wants to come to Fremantle, have been open with West Coast and Hawthorn that he will not be going anywhere except Fremantle.
Teams have been working on it for a while but it won't happen the first day as other things need to fall into place (probably be waiting for mayne compo IMO)
According to Jason Dover on Trade radio (Hill's Manager)

Clancee, Deboer and Mzungu have all had conversations with a few different clubs each, says the elephant in the room is the CBA not being announced before trade period, players like Deboer, Mzungu and Pearce aren't minimum $$ players so clubs are thinking at the moment that depending on the CBA clubs may need to go to the draft instead.
If anything comes from these 3 players then it will happen more towards the end of the period or in the DFA period due to this.

Jason Dover is the manager all 3, taken from trade radio
