Zorko close, apparently Rich to re-sign soon also and Rockliff also keen to extend - sounds promising as Greg Davis usually gets good info from the club (I believe anyway!)

Zorko and Rich our two most important off contract so getting them to sign on early would hopefully set the tone for the next rung in:

Mayes
Green
Taylor
Gardiner

Then it's the likes of Clarke and Dawson who shouldn't be too much of an issue

Yep spot on. I can't imagine Taylor and Gardiner being flight risks either, so Mayes, Green, Zorko and Rich the big ones left unsigned.

I think we can be confident on Zorko then.....

Telling anyone who will listen that he is re-signing!

I wonder if this is a deliberate ploy by the Senior players? Hanley extended when he didn't need to, Zorko is being very vocal about committing to the club and apparently Rocky is also keen to extend even though he doesn't need to this year. Then there is also Rich who is supposedly close.

Perhaps a deliberate very public show of faith and strength by the players as a message to fans, sponsors and team mates?

I'm not a big fan of announcing that a player will re-sign. Just wait until he's put pen to paper.

Let's hope for a time when we don't need to sweat every player shortly to come out of contract.

I remember the days when a draftee wouldn't extend their contract until the end of the 2nd year........ Seems like a world away now!

I suppose it's better to get publicity out about a player intending to re-sign than it is to have to deal with certain journalists creating FUD articles about where else they might go instead, among a so-called exodus.

Lions set to lock in Rich deal

BRISBANE’S Daniel Rich will soon start negotiations on a long-term deal that will see him rebuff his position as an in-demand free agent.

The Lions’ retention issues seem to be easing as they sign a clutch of local academy kids and poach Queensland talent from rival sides.

Questions had been raised about the future of the Perth-raised 25-year-old Lions midfielder as Jack Redden and James Aish departed Brisbane last year.

But his Melbourne-based manager Paul Connors will soon sit down with Lions list manager Peter Schwab to work on a deal.

Rich is comfortable in Brisbane where he is building a property portfolio and is happy to sign on.

He has no plans to drag on his contract until late in the season when rivals might be tempted to splurge on a player with a cannon for a left foot.

Rich played 21 games coming off a 2014 knee reconstruction but will be injected into the midfield more this year to better harness his superb disposal skills.

The free agency pool has already shrunk dramatically after the summer free agency signings of North Melbourne’s Todd Goldstein, Richmond’s Shane Edwards and Port Adelaide’s Hamish Hartlett.

The Herald Sun reported last week Essendon free agent Cale Hooker is set to defer contract talks, but Collingwood free agent Steele Sidebottom will again sign up as a Pie.

Brisbane midfielder Dayne Zorko on Tuesday confirmed he too wanted to stay at Brisbane after conjecture about his future.

“I’m happy at Brisbane so I’m sure my manager and the club will go through the process and it (the contract extension) won’t be too far away,” he said.

Essendon coach John Worsfold said on Sunday he was confident all 12 players suspended this year would want to return to the club next year.

But while captain Jobe Watson is contracted until 2017, four of those players are free agents who could depart at year’s end.

Hooker, Heath Hocking, David Myers and Brent Stanton are all free agents who will spend the year cooling their heels.

Stanton had a clause in his new contract to allow him to play on in 2017 but as a suspended player can’t meet that games requirement trigger.

Worsfold said the players from all five affected clubs could train together, with some to study and others to spend time overseas.

I'll edit my post with the full article.

FWIW, the trick to viewing an article after using up all free views, is to post it on any form of social media, clear cache/cookies, log back in and click the link. Should load perfectly fine.

Ooohh crafty! Thanks for the tip

Positive news about both Rich and Zorko in regards to signing up and with the added benefit of it being before the season. Looking forward to actual confirmation. I hope that this season there is absolutely no murmurings of any players leaving and we can just concentrate on their impact on the football field. Followong football last season was like watching an episode of crappy daytime soap tv with all of the outside noise. I hope that our club and its playing list just get down to business and play football.

Glad I'm not the only one stuck with that problem. The old trick of swapping heraldsun for news didn't help, nor did Google

New ingognito window. Type in the subject ie. Daniel Rich and move it to the news section instead of normal search query and it'll work 99% of the time :thumbsu:
