Exactly, we got Dal to fill a role after he spent his footy life at the saints. I have no qualms about him going somewhere else.
To me I see FA's as mercenaries, you pay them and they come help you out but really you don't care what happens to them after their tenure is up.
Career players like boom and drew and spud (even though 2 of the 3 are really finished any way) seeing them run around for another team would hurt.

Not this time around, Dal is aware that Collingwood have interest in him.

Collingwood and Melbourne apparently, dont know what he would add to either. And to be honest seeing Cloke playing vfl this year and knowing NDS would never do that i doubt he goes on to be honest. Also said on the panel he has outside interests he wouldnt mind getting to so who knows. If they can get a bit of cash before its all over good on em.

Like him but would be surprised since Young signed a new deal this year
I'm not sure that he would be that great a get? Probably paying overs for him based on this year's form.

Could be a flash in the pan and average for the rest of his career.

If you want anyone from Port its Wingard, but that ain't going to happen.

The drama of both the known and impeding departures was making me sad a week ago. I love 'em all and they are guns who won us games and kept us in games for years.

But as the dust begins to settle, I am feeling that North could end up with a blank canvas for next year. And I for one am starting to smile about it all.

PS: we have a finals series starting on Saturday night.......

A port adelaide poster mentioned we are linked to aaron young. Would be a great get but doubt it is true
Highly doubt it and Young can GAGF anyway. Would need to be held down with the clippers on No.1 to get rid of that atrocity on his head first as well.

I'd take Robbie Gray over Wingard anyday.

What would be dal santo's worth
Also if wells walks out as a free agent does that delude the compo? Sorry im just not up with how the free agent system works

Any compo for the loss of a FA is only diluted if you also sign a FA in the same period.

EDIT Example

Carlton did not receive any compensation for losing Eddie Betts under FA due to them signing Dale Thomas as a FA during the same period....oops.

Dal would net us five fifths of **** all, his contract surely wouldn't be long and wouldn't be for huge dollars.
Likewise Wellsy might net us a late 3rd or 4th...

Carlton’s Irish defender Zach Tuohy is set to switch clubs after being lured by a big offer from North Melbourne.

In the Australian today but i cant read it as you need to subscribe but apparently a 4 year deal.
Has gone with it on SEN too. They are talking about it now.

Looking at the strength of the top 30 in this draft, unless we can get a young gun ie Marchbank I think we'd be better served trading players like Hansen, Atley, Mckenzie, our later picks and even some future picks (people think we'll bottom out so would think our 2nd next year will be mid- late 20s) in order to get 3 picks in the top 30. If we could pick up the likes of Andrew McGrath, Daniel Vebables, Tim Taranto, Jordan Galluci and Cedric Cox, we'd be pretty well off both in the short and long term.

North make Carlton’s Zach Tuohy their prime target

Carlton’s Irish defender Zach Tuohy appears set to switch clubs next month after being lured by a lucrative four-year offer from North Melbourne.

A year after making a similar long-term offer to Port Adelaide running half-back Hamish Hartlett, who remained with the Power following the attraction of a new five-year $3 million contract, the Kangaroos are moving on Tuohy.

Carlton’s most durable player — he has played 90 games in succession since the start of 2013 — Tuohy, 26, has become one of North’s biggest targets since dropping all interest in Fremantle free agent Chris Mayne, who had been keen to cross to Arden Street following a mid-season approach.

North, who again have interests in several players from rival clubs including contracted Gold Coast midfielder David Swallow, have a war chest of as much as $1.5 million following last months culling of four veterans — Brent Harvey, Drew Petrie, Nick Dal Santo and Michael Firrito, who were told their contracts would not be renewed for next year.

North have been active in the marketplace in recent post seasons and outgoing club president James Brayshaw last month said they again needed “a pretty aggressive reset” to give push towards a fifth premiership”.

Swallow, the brother of North Melbourne captain Andrew, has been on the Kangaroos’ radar for some time despite being contracted for another year. Tuohy, from County Laois, has played 120 games since his debut in 2011, with his past two seasons being his best.

Carlton, who earlier this week re-signed key forward Levi Casboult on a one-year deal to play in 2017, are one of four clubs talking to out-of-contract Greater Western Sydney defender Caleb Marchbank before the end of the weekend.

However, the Blues could be out of the race for the injury-prone defender if they rule out exchanging him for their first national draft selection, which is currently pick No 5.

Marchbank, who has requested to be traded back home to Victoria, and his agent are also talking to Collingwood, Essendon and St Kilda. Giant coach Leon Cameron this week said he was very disappointed to lose the overall sixth selection in the 2014 draft.

“He’s a good young kid, and you don’t like to lose a quality young footballer like that, but it is what it is,” he said. “We’ll work through that through the October period to get the best result for our footy club.”

Fellow GWS defender Tim Mohr is another exploring his options and tossing up whether to return to a Victorian club after 45 games in five years. Despite several knee reconstructions, the Giants have offered him a one-year-deal to play on next year. Mohr, who turns 28 next month, is a back-up key-defender who played two games this year.

Casboult was the No 1 key-forward for the Blues this season and booted 18 goals in 20 senior appearances.

St Kilda are the latest club to become interested in Essendon’s out-of-contract forward Jayden Laverde.

The first-round selection in the 2014 national draft wants to stay with the Bombers, who have not yet been able to stitch up a deal for the 20-year-old due to other priorities.

Laverde’s season was restricted early by shoulder surgery, but he returned to play in the club’s last eight games.

Meanwhile, a number of ruckmen are expected to leave their current clubs next month or be delisted, including Fremantle free agent Zac Clarke and teammate Jonathon Griffin, who is seeking a third club after starting with Adelaide before playing the past six year with the Dockers.

Out-of-contract Geelong ruckman/forward Nathan Vardy could be on the move for more opportunities, while the future of out-of-contract teammate Mitch Clarke remains in the air.

The Western Bulldogs have two big men — Tom Campbell and Will Minson — out of contract. Collingwood are also about to release ruckman Jarrod Witts, who could be headed to Brisbane.

North Melbourne’s Majak Daw is another who has yet to be re-signed beyond this year. But he may stay at Arden Street following some encouraging words this week from coach Brad Scott, who said: “Majak’s proven he’s going to be a really exciting player for us, not just now but into the future.”

Aslong as his trade value isnt high im ok with it. Player for Player would be ideal, dont want to be handing out important picks in the next few years.

Two clubs circle discarded Roo Dal Santo

DISCARDED North Melbourne midfielder Nick Dal Santo is open to the possibility of playing for his third AFL club in 2017.

At least two clubs are understood to be interested in speaking to him about his intentions, including Collingwood and coach Nathan Buckley.

The 321-game veteran admitted his mindset had changed in the past fortnight after being told by Roos coach Brad Scott he would no longer be required at Arden Street next season.

"Two weeks ago I was hoping to play for North Melbourne at least one more year and see what happens after that," Dal Santo told Channel Nine.

"I’m at least open to the idea that there might be something else out there for me that I didn’t expect to be there two weeks ago.

"By saying that it doesn’t mean (I’ve decided), I haven’t made up my mind, haven’t even considered it because my priority, my time, my energy is going into football at North Melbourne at the moment."

The 31-year-old is yet to meet with any potential suitors but is aware of interest that would see him enter a 16th season next year.

"I have heard there has been interest, I’ve had no part in talking to anybody," he said.

"I am open to ideas, but by saying that doesn’t mean I’m definitely playing on.

"There’s other things outside of football that I really enjoy as well that at some stage I would like to pursue as well."

Dal Santo said he had felt a range of emotions since being informed of his future by Scott.

"Tuesday afternoon the coach called me, which is an interesting one when you get a phone call from the coach on a Tuesday afternoon.

"He said 'Can I come around for a coffee?' and I knew where it was heading so I said 'No you can't'."

"I knew what was going on. Obviously I felt like I'd been playing some solid football for the second half of the year, not much was progressing contractually so you work it out, you can read between the lines.

"When I got the phone call, he ended up coming around, we sat down for maybe an hour, just over an hour.

"(We) spoke about my career, the football club, the direction, that's all you can really ask for.

"I know people have copped it a little bit over the last couple of weeks but as a player that's all you want is honesty and I felt like I got that.

"I've said I'm not happy about the decision but I respect it.

"I feel like I can do it again (play on) next year, physically and mentally."

Dal Santo crossed to North Melbourne from St Kilda in 2014 as a free agent and has played 61 games, including 21 of a possible 22 to date this season.
