COLLINGWOOD has confirmed its interest in talking to out-of-contract Tiger Ivan Maric, with coach Nathan Buckley open to recruiting mature-age players in the upcoming exchange period.

Maric has been in talks with multiple clubs, including Richmond, about a dual coaching and playing role in 2017 for a number of weeks and he met with the Magpies on Thursday.

Buckley said it was a "sensitive situation" but the Magpies were keen to continue talks after Maric was pushed out of the No.1 ruck role at Tigerland this season.

"Ivan is uncontracted at Richmond and we're interested in having a chat to him," Buckley told 3AW on Friday night.

"We will talk to anyone that we think is going to help us be successful.

"We're probably in a position now to look at some mature players who can add to that mix (and) I'm not in a position to discount anything that is going to improve us.

"We have a philosophy on what we need to look for and needs we have for the list."

Collingwood recruited former Adelaide, Western Bulldogs and Brisbane Lions ruckman Ben Hudson in a similar playing/coaching role in 2013, placing him on the list as insurance and playing him in seven games over two seasons.

Delisted North Melbourne midfielder Nick Dal Santo has also been floated as a mature-age option for the Magpies

Is it possible that Collingwood is now being linked to more off cuts than us?

I would be going after Will Hoskin-Elliott from GWS. But every player seems saints, pies or blues bound.

A 7 pick upgrade is not worthy of trading the first rounder. Now all of this would be a lot easier if we had the pick 23 to give you for tuohy.

I think we can get a second rounder fairly easily with the likes of Hansen, McKenzie, Mullet and Black probably moving on next season. Might be a player and a later pick for a second rounder.

We need to find room in our side for the Wagners, Wrights, Woods, Jacobs, Clarke's, EVW, Mountfords, Garners, Turners etc.

Really looking forward to tonights game, but shit next season regardless of results is going to be exciting.

I like how you've only gone back four years, as if you went back six you get two All Australians in Greene and Lynch.
I've gone back four years as the two players I'm talking about are ready made mids who have and can play at the level and can use the pill and accumulate it which is exactly what we need.

If we're after an aggressive reset and looking at our age profile there's no point drafting a bunch of kids that are going to take 4-5 years to develop and then any decent players we currently have will be 30 or over and we will be in the same predicament as we are now. Greene is a solid player yes. Still that - 20% chance of a solid player in 5 years

We will be trading in players, I grabbed our current list and threw it in to a spreadsheet and looked at the averages games played , age.

I believe we are going to make around eight or nine list changes and we won't be at the Draft by ourselves calling out names after every other club has gone home......#116 NMFC ..... " dunno never heard of him".

Allowing for Waite and Wells to remain with the guys left next years our avg games played will be 76 and average age 24.3.

Not sure who decreed it was time to cut our list but whoever did it, congrats. JOM was it would seem our master plan, but unfortunately he by the sounds of it is cooked.

Will be interesting watching over the coming weeks seeing if we can pull a rabbit out of our arse. One quick skilled mid and we're back in ****ing town.

I agree in part with what you say, but there's no need to throw away a first round draft pick to gain two fringe players (even though they may end up best 22 at NM). You still need to take 3 picks in the draft, I'd much rather have pick 11 than some nothing pick later on that has even less chance of gaining us a top quality player.

Yep. Also looking forward to next year. Not fussed if we don't trade any players in. Only for a quick mid. More what we did last year. Extra 2nd rd picks. We will get our outside mids there.
Fwd line of Brown, Daw, Wood, Higgins, Garner, Thomas, Anderson, Waggner.
And add extra run to our midfield in Clarke, Mountford, Fordham.
Do we need to trade in some average players? Next group will need to stand up.

One quick skilled mid and we're back in ******* town.

We need one dynamic mid who is inside outside and quick while being a good user of the ball. These don't grow on trees however.

I get the interest in Thouy, I'd push Luke into the middle.

We also need one of our small Forwards that are coming through to really establish themselves, Garner, Turner, Andersen, one of these blokes needs to be kicking 25 goals.

I am really f***ing intrigued as to what 2017 will bring, it's a genuine unknown for mine.
