Didn't Selwood do a knee before he was drafted?

Would be madness to use 1 for Kelly.

GWS can get stuffed, they've been over-serviced with picks, so as long as we ethically offer them something reasonable if they don't take it well so be it.

Welcome Kelly for nothing, i'll be furious if we give our 1st up knowing we can get him for free if we really wanted to play hardball.
Goodbye to any future trading scenarios with GWS. I'd pay the #1 draft pick in an instant, and twice on Sundays. He's worthy of that pick, he's already developed, but still young, he's a 'bird in the hand'.

I'd be stunned if we walked him through the PSD, though as a threat it's useful.

Would you pay pick 1 knowing PSD was a real possibility though, just to maintain the peace?

...i suppose we're expecting no future trading between carlton & tiges then?

If Kelly wants to come he will more than likely want afair deal for GWS as well, sure your can threaten psd if they want overs like say this and next years 1st and this years 2nd.
But in the end the deal would be fair to all parties, Kelly would get his contract, GWS get a fair trade compensation for Kelly and we get a ready made gun mid.
Triple win...

Of course that's probably will happen due to being ethical etc......

Obviously Kelly is worth number 1, that's not the point and we should screw the plastic franchise over, couldn't care less about future trades etc.

I want Kelly and i want our 1st.

Theres a good chance Cerra gets taken top 3, leaving us with Luke Davies-Uniacke who imo is clearly a better prospect than either of those 3.

That's what I'm hoping for at the moment, would be thrilled with Luke Davies-Uniacke. There's probably also a chance that Higgins jumps into the top-3 if he has a strong finals series.

EDIT: Twomey had McGrath and Taranto ranked 6th and 15th respectively this time last year, so there's still a lot that can change.

Everyone is whinging about how we didn't tank (which is incredibly, mind-bogglingly stupid but I won't go there), however realistically I doubt it will make too much of a difference. The best 4 mids in the draft are, in varying orders depending on who you ask, Rayner, Dow, Cerra and Davies-Uniacke. They've been compared to Dustin Martin, Patrick Dangerfield, Scott Pendelbury and Josh Kennedy (with more pace) respectively. We are in need of all of those types, so I really don't see how we're going to go wrong, theres a very good chance one of the other 3 will turn out to be better than Rayner anyway.

The only certainty is Rayner going to Carlton @ 3 now imo.

(If Kelly resigns with GWS that is)

If Kelly go's to Carlton, I think Rayner gets to us @ 4

I think Brisbane will take Dow @ 1, he's the inside ball winner with elite pace that compliments McCluggage beautifully, GC is hard to read, LDU or Cerra.

Whoever they don't pick, I think we take, Stephenson is a smokey for us. I think he gets through to Collingwood though, with Fremantle taking Brander.

I think Higgins go's at one of the Saints picks.

THE BRISBANE Lions will target a hybrid midfielder with the No.1 pick in November's national draft.

Coach Chris Fagan outlined the club's plans for the coveted first pick after the Lions lost to North Melbourne on Saturday and in the process picked up the wooden spoon.

"I think we need to keep bolstering our midfield," Fagan said.

"Looking for that hybrid guy that can win it on the inside and spread.

"We should be able to find one of those at the top of the draft I would imagine."

Among the favourites to go near the top of the draft are Western Jets' Cameron Rayner and Bendigo's Paddy Dow, who would both appear to fit Fagan's bill nicely.

The Lions have developed well in Fagan's first season, but their midfield is still a bit thin.

Is that you saying you think it's GWS or Carlton?!

So, LDU or Cerra. Who offers the best value in your view, and who is the best fit for our needs, and why?

Stephenson has something different again, and it will be interesting to see what happens with him.

I would consider Lochie O'Brien with pick 4
Is elite by foot, probably the best kick in this draft
Can kick goals from outside 50 on the run with ease
He is super fast as well
Only question is his ability to get it inside but he is the pure outside mid that we need
Plus we have a surplus of inside mids

With the make up of our current midfield there is absolutely no way we should be considering Rayner. We already have more than enough mids with no tank.

And considering most on here want to see the back of Gibson (our only elite running midfielder), it's would become even more of a problem.

Yeah Dow wouldve been the one, oh well theres always 10 years from now.

Just a thought, but I imagine it wouldn't take much to trade up to #2 and leapfrog Carlton for Rayner.

If Gold Coast have their heart set on a Jack Higgins or Jarrod Brander type, then it could potentially be as simple as giving them 4, 43 and Swallow. To be a bit more realistic, you could switch out pick 43 with an incoming pick in the 30s from someone, but the general idea is still the same.
