All the talk of trading players to get the pick for Rankine (me included) made me think about how other teams would get him.

Let him go to a crap team for a few years then trade him back to SA for unders. Isn't that how it works?

Oh, I forgot... That is a oneway street.

I was pretty unsure of the Charlie Cameron rumour as I didnt see any reason for him to move to Brisbane, he is playing good footy here and has a good mentor in Eddie. I spoke to Bicks one day when I saw him and asked him about Cameron leaving and he said he hadnt heard anything like that and didnt think there was anything to it.
But with Eddie saying that they werent going to ask Lever, Gov AND Charlie about staying anymore in the locker room, its obviously true.
I would hate to lose him but I hope the club has learnt from its past mistakes and trades him out while still in contract.

So your saying a midfielder who has struggled with a tag (and remember you need to be seriously good for a tag to happen), is better than one who has never experienced it in his life?

I don't think Matty is far off dethroning him though mind you, but I want another season at a similar level to this before I make that call.

There is no doubt Matt Crouch has had a far better season. If you take Sloane's first 6 weeks away he has been average.

Crouch is an untaggable midfielder in the same way Scott Thompson was. You ca't tag someone who is on the bottom of the pack.

Yep... he's already got 3 guys hanging off him every time he gets the ball. Adding a 4th won't really make much of a difference.

Yep he will still beat his opponent to the drop and still effectively dish it out.

He isn't, in fact a tag would be quite effective on him.

Similar to how it's effective on Joel Selwood and Sam Mitchell in that having a minder to block his movement and not give him any clean breaks would lower his output dramatically.

Selwood has seldom been able to be tagged out of a game on a consistent basis. Unlike Sloane who is consistently being taken out of the game when a tag is applied.

Sam Mitchell was only able to be tagged when he moved to his HB role. He was never successfully tagged when his was their primary midfielder.

Before you start shooting individual game stats at me where a Selwood or Mitchell have been tagged out of a game. I am talking on a consistent basis. Every mid will have bad games and have the odd where the tag will get the better of them, but the better ones rise above. Sloane has not been able to do this.

Both of them were tagged successfully, but it's a damage limitation tag more so than a take them out of the game tag; you can't stop the first touch but you can take away them kicking the ball. Tagging/shutting down Selwoods offensive game is one of the main ways to beat the cats, shutting down Mitchells game was widely considered one of the ways to stop the Hawks.

Matt Crouch would be suspect to this as well right now.

In contrast to Sloane who gets tagged right out of the game so much so it limits his disposals numbers and effectiveness to almost half of what they were in the first 6 weeks.

I also still say Mitchell/Selwood/JPK etc are never consistently tagged even to the extent you say they are. There will be the odd game but nothing to the level at what is occurring to Sloane.

I'm not saying they are consistently tagged (far from it because most of them had a more star studded midfielder as a teammate), what I'm saying is when they were, it worked in a big way.

Like I said. The odd game and rarely in the big games. Sloane is getting his pants pulled down almost every week.
