What a f***ing joke. We're absolute pushovers and the laughing stock of the AFL.

We could have got Weller next year for nothing FFS. 4 2nd round picks and we couldn't get it done...

Pissed off. We are run by absolute idiots.
Sometimes i think to myself that im in an alternate reality where the Monstars from Space Jam, not only exist but have decided that the ALF administration talent of all the club officials in Queensland is a much surer bet than basketball talent in the US.
Then i wake up and frown, nope they are just that bad no theft of talent required.

I feel this is like the Tom Boyd deal back in 2014. Bulldogs were a rabble, their captain Ryan Griffen had left them, and to top it off the club decide to pay a young forward who could barely get a game for $1 million a year. People laughed at the Dogs saying they would be bottom 4 for years. Then the next year they finished 6th and the year after won a GF. I see this as a blessing in disguise

Well that's the glass half full
Then there's Jonathan Hay....................

I don't care if Weller is the next Chris Judd. He said that he would play out next year at the Dockers and then come over to the Suns, regardless of what happened this trade period.

You don't get pick 2 very often. When is the last time a team like North had a pick that high?

We should be maximising every single trade and pick. Like someone already mentioned, we have lost O'Meara, Prestia and Ablett. Those 4 top 10 picks barely compensate for that.

Horrible trade and sets a precedent for the future. We have shown that we may talk tough, but at the end of the day we'll bend. Good luck trading in the future.

Why is it only Suns fans think the Weller deal was a good deal.

Optimism on our behalf and the fact we actually have a quality player wanting to be apart of the Suns which is quite rare. Most teams don't have to deal with the go home factor or are destination clubs, we were always going to pay overs for him.

Elite kick. Physically mature. Elite running patterns and wants to be here. Swallow, Brodie, Weller, Bowes, Ainsworth, Hall.. it's a real nice mix of inside/outside, strength and pace.

'Oh I wanted ldu, I seen 5 mins highlights on YouTube and he looks amazing, plus knightmare says he's really good.' He might well be, but we know what we're getting from Weller already, and he's only 21 so has enormous upside.
well said.

This means nothing, the Dockers would have asked for the exact same thing

So many overreactions on here over an unknown pick 2. Sheesh...

We got 4 x top 10 kids last draft.

We get 2 x top 10 kids next year.

We landed a kid with the talent to become a 10yr A grade player for the club.
I think this is actually the right mindset
We always get crazy about draft talent yet we have an abundance and they take years to come to reliable standard, we lost GAZ we need some ready made players and some stars on the park now, cost us a lot but we have to be competitive now, when will LDU be competitive in AFL.........2020?

I didn't follow this years draft very closely (lucky i didn't knowing we don't have many picks) how many at pick 2 would have made a massive impact? Young, Wigg and Weller will probably start better than him being multiple year players. I feel Dew needs start strong to get Lynch to re-sign early with so many away games. Right now it seems like a loss still but who knows this time last year i thought we won the Prestia trade thinking about it again knowing he would win a premiership we should have asked for more but i guess that's how it goes.

and we got pick 19 for a 34 year old, Suns need talent now

I worry with Evans that he has been installed as CEO and is doing it for the money that the AFL would be paying him, rather than applying for the job out of the desire of doing it. Does he actually have skin in the game, or is he detached from it and only doing it for money?

The trade kind of reminds me of when Fremantle used to trade the farm for messiahs. I remember us trading our first, second and third round pick for Josh Carr in 2004 only to delist him four years later. It was a beauty.

As for Weller, it's undeniably that there's something there. He's fast and he can kick real good, but I have to question his footy IQ.

To be a star you have to be able to do the things that he does with the ball, but you have to be a ball magnet who does those things again and again and again each game.

Haven't really seen it yet, but here's hoping.

I just have a problem with GC selling Saad for a pick in the late thirties next year and then trading pick 2 for Weller, when in my opinion Saad has as much star potential as he does but he's sold for literally 5% of the price (2 divided by 40 = 5%).

I also think Matera is going to do some good things over the next few years and even has the potential to come close to pushing the A-grade barrier for a year or two.

From what I understand Matera was okay to stay, but GC just weren't interested in matching Fremantle's contract offer which was reported to have been $450,000 x 3 years.

Instead they are likely designating that money to Young $250,000 and $200,000 to overpay Weller.
