Possible team round one 2017

B: Tommy Sheridan, Joel Hamling, Lee Spurr

HB: Garrick Ibbotson, Alex Pearce, Michael Johnson

C: Stephen Hill, Lachie Neale, Bradley Hill

HF: Michael Walters, Cam McCarthy, Harley Bennell

F: Shane Yarran, Michael Apeness, Hayden Ballantyne

R: Aaron Sandilands, Nat Fyfe, David Mundy

INT: Darcy Tucker, Connor Blakely, Ed Langdon, Lachie Weller
This B22, which Alex has only changed a little today on AFL.com once again highlights our lack of speed and rebound from our back 6 - still think Sheridan needs time to show himself forward of centre. We really need to inject some speed and line breaking ability off half back imo, and especially so given Johnson will likely retire at the end of next year. Weller and Crozier could inject some but if we can grab a half back @ #35 or #40 in the draft (would have been better if those picks were in the mid to late 20s) then I think it will set us up well. Add some balanced class for when Mundy retires (hopefully with pick #7) and then we can head in to the 2017 off season only really needing talls (in a draft that should have good tall depth).

Geez that centre line looks good. Our midfield with a hopefully fit 211 looks awesome. Throw in Bennel and Yarran half forward, with Walters aswell, barring injury I think we are a genuine chance for top 8.

Also having a fit and fresh Fyfe playing for a career contract, and McCarthy aswell strutting his stuff, hopefully a fired up Ballaz. It is looking up for freo.

The backline is a minor cause for concern.

Spurr-Hamling-Tucker
Mundy-AP25-Johnson

Just not enough line breaking weapons there. If only Tucker had mundys disposal. With S Hills bro in the line up it might be the jolt he needs at HB

This is exactly why Weller should be there. He looked really good there for the last few games of the year and we have plenty of his type of player forward of centre (Bennell, Walters etc).

Are people posting there expected 22's or hopeful 22's, coz I'm really hopeful we arent playing the older players everyone keeps suggesting. Next year isnt about making the 8 IMO, its about getting games into as many young players with talent as possible. Langdon, Balic, Crozier, Tucker, Pick 7. All these guys have to be getting games ahead of Ibbotson, Ballas & D Pearce. Our best 22 in terms of ability now probably includes those 3 (Pearce heavily debatable) but that shouldnt be what we are about next year, the starting 22 has to be about getting the best potential on the park, while keeping some experience where required.

Tucker Hamling Johnson
Crozier A.Pearce Weller
Hill Neale Hill
Bennell Taberner Walters
McCarthy Kersten Yarran

Sandi Fyfe Mundy

Blakely, Langdon, Apeness, Sheridan

First in: Balic, Collins, Pick 7

Depth for injuries: Clarke, Dawson, D Pearce, Ballas, Ibbotson, Spurr, Sutcliffe

Anyone who thinks Crozier won't be best 22 next year are kidding themselves. If he has a whole pre-season to get suited to playing the HBF role I reckon he'll do an amazing job at it. He has a lot of talent and desire to make it and has partly been a victim of not being able to break into a stronger side (plus he was very inconsistent for his first few years). I think if we gave him 22 games as a HBF he'd show the rest of the comp just how good he can be. Good reader of the play, great intercept marker and also a very good disposer of the footy.

Crozier has both. The underrated characteristic for mine is agility, which I am not so sure he does have so much.

Tucker looked really dangerous by foot in the early parts of the WAFL grand final off the HBF; it's early but I would give him a go early there.

That would mean there would be two fast smalls to go along with Hamling. I'd drop Ibbotson and move Sheridan to a run with / bench player role.

I guess that would be SHill? It means we can then play DPearce on the wing, yay...

The bloke that won the norm smith disagrees

Meh, he won the medal and good one him, still kicked the ball like shit.

Skills >>> speed

I think you need both. Got to get to contests

David Mundy gets to the contests because of his skill and smarts not his speed. However i would love a really fast and skillful player, well one that doesnt mean DPearce gets a game!

I think to many posters are banking on Alex Pearce to be up and going at the start of the season.
A broken leg takes a long time to get strength back into .
I would expect him not to be ready to play until half way through the season.

All reports are he is ready to go for the start of preseason, has already had like 6 months out and was seen training at the gym with Fyfe, McCarthy and Bennell.

Without any setbacks he will be good to go for round 1 and NAB

Some posters teams have Mundy playing at half back ,sorry but he was a standout fail in that position last year and he turned the ball over as a result of being too fatigued because he didn't have the fitness due to having calf injury for the whole PRETTY SEASON.
With a full PS he maybe in better shape this season.
Older legs may let him down despite the strong heart.
Tucker would be a better option IMHO

That one time I saw him played there he was so damaging Adelaide had to change their forward structure to keep him manned up.

I spoke to Alex at the South VS Peel game and he was in a positive mood but in his own words a long way from being able to run or do any heavy weights .
