I wonder how much room we have in our cap? We have a number of players that we'll have to look after as they continue to improve (think Tracc, Oliver, Hunt etc, who will deserve big payrises) ... but do we have a 'war chest' so to speak, or will we have to be a bit thrifty?

The other interesting thing will be to keep an eye out on what we do with our first round pick (guessing anywhere from pick 7-12?) ... use it on a trade, or pick best available in the draft?
I'm only guessing but I think we have a fair bit of space. We have had heaps of spuds on or list for so long so I'd presume we were front loading the contracts of the few decent players we had. I think the main reason we paid big money for average players like Lumumba & Melksham is because it helped us meet the salary cap requirements. Plus Josh Mahoney said in an interview early in the year we had money to land a big name player either this season or the next.

I would rather win ten consecutive spoons than hear anyone from the MFC utter the phrase 'war chest'

If you're in London though, presumably you're used to hearing about transfer war chests and kitties and the like??

I'd use our first round pick to try get the best KPD in the draft unless it's used in a trade to get a good existing one like May (although I doubt a captain leaves). Then use every other pick and rookie pick on back up ruckmen.

So we would have 10 rucks on the list? Lol
I'd be drafting key defenders and looking for guys who are good at uncontested footy and meters gained

With the way we're going with our injuries, a top five pick certainly isn't out of the question.

jeez this board is over reacting

World gone mad when you're saying that. You've had a crack at just about all of our players this week. Forgive me for not being confident with a 191cm ruckman going forward.

I had a Crack at Tyson, said Hogan was disappointing but conceded on that. That's pretty much it

Dogs played without a ruck for half of last year and made the finals.
I'm far more worried about Danihers impact than having no ruck

Tell you what, we probably could nab him. Will be 29. The #8 is free again thanks to H.

That actually really intrigues me. He's a clear need, Hawthorn clearly need picks.

He doesn't look like he's interested at Hawthorn anymore, once he one his premiership he looks like he's just going through the motions. At first I thought it was a stupid idea but it actually has some merit to it, coming back might give him that spark again and we would be able to pick him up real cheap

I still can't see us getting a really high profile player like a Fyfe or Martin....
Maybe because I haven't seen us get one or generally think we still can't.
I'd rather get a couple of players like aliir aliir and someone like Membery to help hogan on our list. Not them players in particular but that style of players.

A key back is a need. I'm a big fan of Frost, but he's got some developing to go. TMac has it in him but sometimes goes through the motions.

I'll make two points. Firstly, recruiting key defenders as 'backup' is never the right approach. KPP's (except ruck) need to either be best 22 players or developing into best 22 players. Otherwise you get left with hacks and list cloggers like Tom Gillies.

Second, Lever would be ideal. In his draft year we picked up Trac and Gus, but had Saints picked Trac over McCartin it would've been 50/50 whether we drafted McCartin or Lever along with Brayshaw. I suspect we would have gone with Lever given we'd just lost Frawley. That said, I'm very glad we have Petracca.

For Lever I'd give up first and more. Maybe a first plus ANB for a second or something. That said, I don't know why he'd leave Crows and if it were money I suspect others would have more to offer him than us

I'd welcome him back but I don't think he'd be the same player he was. I couldn't really guess a value for him either. Second rounder? Our first downgraded to their second if they finish bottom 4? I do have question marks around his mentality though.

They don't have a second, they have the GWS 2nd.

Not sure I'd want Frawley back. Still feel like he's only really ever had that one good season and has otherwise been a reasonable and nothing more player.

I think we need HBFs and inside mids

Definitely. We lack depth. If Melksham goes down, who do we bring in to play his role? We'd need H to come out of retirement.
