Us being ripped off the best outcome for the AFL. Not surprised. It was that or go public with mediation. This was the best outcome for the AFL.

I mentioned this the week before it happened. The AFL is trying to kill the notion of the draft being used as a way of players getting what they want. There is a “non-existent” understanding of this between the clubs and the AFL.
AFL administrators must have performance-related clauses for meddling in their contracts.
The benefit isn't about building a relationship with clubs, it's about building then with agents. Next time a high profile player wants to move to Melbourne his agent will recommend Melbourne because the deal will get done early.
Turn it upside down. Players might think twice about nominating a club where it is known that they dicked someone around and the trade fell through.I kind of doubt it. Who chooses a club on the basis of deals getting done early in the trade period instead of how much they get paid, where they're going and what shape the list is in?

Yeah there was another manager on sen last week or the week before. Basically said managers will always try to deal with reasonable clubs to begin with and will try and get their clients to clubs that cooperate.Listening to Connors(?) Or whichever agent was on open mike this year the agents influence the club the player goes too on occasion. Better to be a club agents push too like the Hawks

He was talking about the Judd trade wasn't he? Judd wanted to go to Collingwood, but Connors knew they wouldn't be able to get the trade done, so he pushed him heavily towards CarltonListening to Connors(?) You don’t seem to understand how this works.I would think on those occasions players are more likely to be upset with their current club then the one they're trying to get to. How often does that happen though, and can you really say a particular club actually has a history of it? I really don't think so.

I'm sure they have a bit of influence, but I still think its going to be a drop in the ocean compared to the pay and playing opportunities on offer and the state of the list. Anywho...
I’m puzzled as to why you have tagged yourselfYeah its anyone's guess how much influence, could be 1 in 100 players or 50 in 100. Suppose I've chosen the blind optimism route with the club on this one which feels very un Topkent like

So he's probably one of the few people who can actually say that they should have taken Ablett Snr's advice ...Yeah it was something along the lines of Collingwood had no trade assets and Carlton did so Connors pushed him to Carlton. Then Ablett senior rang him and pleaded he didn't go to Carlton because they were shit.
Dude, you ****ing tagged yourselfYeah its anyone's guess how much influence, could be 1 in 100 players or 50 in 100. Suppose I've chosen the blind optimism route with the club on this one which feels very un Topkent like
Did Crameri show anything before his injury at the Dogs to suggest he might return to some decent form? He was a very dangerous player a few years ago, but nobody would take him unless there was a real prospect that he had something left in him.Btw you guys are in a win now situation so bringing in someone like crameri would def help
Nothing wrong with blind optimism I reckon it’s a prerequisite for dees supporters, but I agree there is a whole range of factors at play and trades don’t take place in a bubble, Mahoney and crew do appear to have a long term plan that has extended back 3 to 4 years with Bringing Lever to the club this year the priority over draft picks.Yeah its anyone's guess how much influence, could be 1 in 100 players or 50 in 100.
