That is a horrible list.
However, lets look at how many "A/B-grade" players have gone in the 2nd round:

2007:
Ward (19), Selwood (2/16: 12.5%)

2008:
Ballantyne (21), Zaharakis (23), Redden (25), D. Beams (29), Hannebery (30), Liam Shiels (34) (6/16: 37.5%)

2009:
Fyfe (20), Carlisle (24), Duncan (28), Gunston (29) (4/16: 25%)

2010:
Lycett (29), Howe (33), Parker (40), (3/17: 17%)

2011:
B. Hill (33), Newnes (37) (2/18: 11%)

2012:
NONE (worst draft ever) 0%

2013:
Impey (21), M Crouch (23), Z Merret (26), Taylor (28), Lobb (29), Nankervis (35) (6/18: 33%)

2014:
McLean (26), Miller (29), Blakely (34) (3/18: 16%)

So basically from 137 second round picks 30 have been a winners and very good players.

So that's about a 22% chance.

Ignoring 2015 and 2016 as too early to tell.
We have had 2 winners (Selwood and Lycett) from 10 picks. So 20% success, which is just below the average.

So while it's not great, the 2nd round is full of duds.

(this was a huge waste of time)

Edit: Actually 137 picks for 30 winners.
So 22% success rate
This is a terrible analysis. Neither Selwood nor Lycett fit the criteria of B plus grade player. Going by this metric we have a 0% strike rate.

If we broaden the scope to players who have contributed to the best 22 of a club, things change dramatically.

Like this is a completely shithouse distortion. Follow up post on it's way with numbers.

Now Vosso's got a full suite of draft picks to bring it on HOME!!

Bulldogs pick 25 28 30

For West coast pick 13

We have a lot of good young players but we don't have anyone on track to be elite and this is our biggest issue in midfield. Shuey is our best and is short of AA level.

Pick 13 is no guarantee of picking up someone of that calibre but it is far more likely to than any pick in the late 20s.

You're an angry man aren't you.

Why the obsession with our second round drafting, like there's some sort of systematic error with our drafting inbetween 18 and 36. Roll a dice 10 times, if you don't roll a 6 does that make you sht at rolling 6's?

I understand the overall criticism of our Recruiting and development but this focus on the second round is a bit bizarre.

Our ability to rotate players through the middle is going to be a lot better now Pridda has hung up the boots. I would imagine Ah Chee will feature heavily in the middle. Being named on a flank won't be the purgatory it has been for the last 5 years.

Yes, now that priddis has gone, we will turn into Geelong circa 2007. Oh and also hungry will be able to eat, wars will be stopped and peace on earth will reign for all eternity.

I think we will be more attacking through the midfield but could get monstered some days and might not be pretty to watch .
But you never know I think we can make the eight .

Don't they all do that Haha. Seems that's all the rage on twitter

Which is fine if they say that's what they're doing.

Too many of them pretending they've got inside knowledge when really they're guessing as much as we are.

What a surprise - DivideandMultiply is going to follow up with numbers!

A check point - you may not like Scooter but I would say someone who was taken in the second round at pick 22 and went on to become a member of our leadership team and b&f winner a success and therefore a B plus grader. Arguably only a B grader but he probably spent too much time and energy being the sole Mr Niggle so on that basis he gets a plus.

Not with this type of smart mouth posting it won't

:p

I am confident we are going to be a much more dynamic side going forward than we were this year. Naitanui back and priddis and mitchell out. A lot more players are going to have to win the footy to make up for Priddas absence. I agree with new breed - some days good midfields will collar us and it won't look pretty but that has been the case with pridda out there too.

It's a brave new world for us in 2018 but I think it will be exciting. Embrace change.
