He'll be a good contributor but more importantly they need to build a positive culture. And that's why he is so important.

The positive culture will come from Dew and whether he gets people like May, Lynch, Hall, D Swallow, Hanley etc to buy in.

Swallow isn't going to offer them anything that Rosa, Barlow and Rischitelli don't in terms of setting standards, hence he would be a nice to have rather than some vital addition. I expect the departure of Ablett will do a lot more for banding the playing group together than picking up veterans from other clubs will.

He's captained a side into 4 finals campaigns in a career based on effort and preparation. You don't think that might offer more mentoring value than any of the blokes you listed?

I'm not saying he wouldn't add value, I'm saying Gold Coast aren't going to move heaven and earth to get him into the club. People keep throwing up things like upgrading pick 22 to 19, or getting pick 24 as part of a deal, on the basis that "Gold Coast lack leadership and culture, he'd be great for them".

Hence him being a nice to have for GC. I'd be shocked if he was any sort of priority for them.

Whooooooo hoooo,

they'll keep quiet when it becomes time to refute bullshit media, but come out and say this empty calorie statement. I dont get it.

Can't argue with that. Would be shocked if we got anything better than a fourth round pick.

Subtext from Brad Scott - "we'll continue to back in Todd Goldstein because we know what is a capable of, he isn't at that standard at the moment but he is working hard on the track to get back to his best. We know his best is as good as any ruckman in the league"

At my best I am a dynamite comedian but instead im here

At the same time, will help lower the value of our players and hurt the development of players like Preuss just like we did this year.

Just say no one wants them, Goldie and Daw.

This is genuinely depressing me. Ffs north, you can't rebuild with 1 pick in the top 20, and 2 in the top 40. We really need to make something happen to improve our draft position or we could be in for a long period of mediocrity.

I hope nobody is seriously upset if we miss out on Lang. He is essentially a Hrovat clone. He is hardly the solution to our midfield issues.

Lets please not fall for these players from top clubs who cant get a permanent spot in their side ala Anderson. If they were good enough they would play every week. You dont see Cockatoo assessing his options for example - Geelong know his top end upside. They also know Lang's and currently havent offered him a contract

Correct, we need at least two picks more picks in the first 2 rounds.

Would definitely add mentoring value but with his limitations these days I can't see a spot for him in the side.

Their midfield next year will comprise D Swallow, Lyons, Hanley, Rischetelli, Brodie, Hall, Ainsworth, Miller, Fiorini, Barlow, Martin and maybe Weller.

To me that's a stronger midfield than NM will be taking into 2018 and presently he's a line ball to get a game for us. Also GC would have to pick up what I'd imagine is a pretty high salary tab for him next year.

Some people may need reminding that we had 11 debutantes this year plus 2 23 year olds from other clubs. We are not going to get the picks you want from any trades so we go with 4 and 23 and add to the group I've just mentioned.

Sheesh.

And Bowes.

Come on man. So the difference between mediocrity and top 4 is pick 16 in the 2017 draft?

We are going for a 3 year list build strategy. We will brain the 2018 draft. And hopefully pick 4 this year turns out to be a gun.

I agree that we could be more aggressive with some older players, packing them up to move up the draft order. And we certainly should have been bolder last year with Goldy as many here stated at the time.

But we have good young players now, and will only be adding elite young talent to it over the next few years.

We won't be down for too long IMO.

And I predicted a bottom 3 finish for us this year.

Half of those players are either flankers (Hanley, Martin, Weller), second year (Brodie, Ainsworth) or are recovering from a broken leg (Barlow). There will be a huge amount of pressure on Swallow and Lyons to win the hardball.

How we have no one of value to trade goldy contract is too much for other clubs to take on

How do you suggest we get more picks in the top 40? Trade Cunnington, brown or pruess? Trade pick 4 or next year's first rounder?
