That's classic!!Therein lies the issue. Collingwood have dropped from league best to league worst through Buckley's tenure in that area and through the same period reduced our investment in eyes on the ground at recruiting level. Until the board wake up and re-invest in key areas we'll continue to drift, but overall even without that good team around Rendell (which you're spot on is lacking) best practice for Collingwood remains the draft.
Bringing it back to relevant discussion I think the best value for Collingwood trade wise is targeting guys in the U21 age bracket that are lacking exposure to reduce pressure on the salary cap, but also provide some on field value.
Names that spring to mind that I've considered are Redman, Balic, Fiorini and Goddard. Trades for that type of player though hinge almost completely on what we get for our outgoing players which will be Cox and Fasolo, IMO. Perhaps the guts of deals goes:
Cox - Bulldogs
Libba - GC
Fiorini - Collingwood
Fasolo + 54 for 28 from WC
It's too early for anything more than spitballing, but on the surface, to me at least, it provides value to all 4 clubs before the serious pick haggling comes into it (WB would definitely need something extra in that first deal).
