2017 trade hypothetical thread

Therein lies the issue. Collingwood have dropped from league best to league worst through Buckley's tenure in that area and through the same period reduced our investment in eyes on the ground at recruiting level. Until the board wake up and re-invest in key areas we'll continue to drift, but overall even without that good team around Rendell (which you're spot on is lacking) best practice for Collingwood remains the draft.

Bringing it back to relevant discussion I think the best value for Collingwood trade wise is targeting guys in the U21 age bracket that are lacking exposure to reduce pressure on the salary cap, but also provide some on field value.

Names that spring to mind that I've considered are Redman, Balic, Fiorini and Goddard. Trades for that type of player though hinge almost completely on what we get for our outgoing players which will be Cox and Fasolo, IMO. Perhaps the guts of deals goes:

Cox - Bulldogs
Libba - GC
Fiorini - Collingwood

Fasolo + 54 for 28 from WC

It's too early for anything more than spitballing, but on the surface, to me at least, it provides value to all 4 clubs before the serious pick haggling comes into it (WB would definitely need something extra in that first deal).
That's classic!!

So Collingwood lose Cox and get Fiorini? OK.
That's classic!!

See this is my own fault for expecting people to read such a long post. There would obviously be movement of picks involved to even out the trade and hinges on all four requesting a trade.

Why would we trade libba for fiorini? We need accumulators, he's our next best thing

I'm not going to bother thrashing it out because I'm not that invested in it, but you respond with a two word smart arse quote of my post, then say we want players (I included one) and then finish by saying not that type and I'm supposedly the one worthy of a "that's classic" response?

If he chooses to leave whoever he nominates will help you find an accumulator. Him leaving is a possibility though despite being contracted, or appearing to be anyway, based on comments coming out of his family on our board. I'm out either way because this is just wasting my time.

Please.. you want me to write a novel no one will read?
Don't need to get salty because ppl have laughed off your terrible trade idea.

Interesting. Getting salty at some getting salty it's a bold strategy. I probably should just cop the ignorance/ immaturity of others on the chin though thanks for the advice :thumbsu:

How about Gold Coast trade 2017 pick #24 and 2018 3rd rounder for Anthony Miles.
GC still have their first 3 picks plus an experienced ball accumulating inside midfielder. Richmond get early enough pick to assist with Naish points and another pick in next years "strong" draft.

Also think we may be able to get a 2018 3rd rounder from Carlton for Ben Lennon. Would be more suited to the slower methodical style of Carlton than the frenetic pace of the Tigers.

Miles is about a pick 50-60 if you are lucky. Even GC are not that moronic.

He may be worth pick 50 to Geelong, which would be around your 3rd pick, but to Gold Coast is he worth their 4th pick? They have plenty of kids so picks are not as important to them. A genuine, proven inside midfielder is more important to them than Geelong.

If you don't like terrible trade ideas then perhaps this isn't the thread for you

I would love miles at the suns, really need that type of player, not sure a pick in the 20s is anywhere near his value.
Something more along the lines of 40 - 60

I could see Geelong losing Stanley, Mackie, Lonergan, Motlop and Menzel which would be a pretty big hit. Apparently on the ins: are after Stringer, Ablett and Devon Smith but I don't see how we could get all that done with the picks we're going to have.

Not saying he isnt more suited to our slower style, just dont see us giving up a 2018 3rd rounder when we are going to need points for Ben Silvagni and Lennon could very well be delisted by then
