Agree the ratings need to improve in Sydney.

Swans got 54k, the NRL 135k, on FTA in Sydney. So the NRL basically got 2.5 times the swans figure. Fox numbers aren't out yet but we probably won't get to see the city breakdown.

The comparison doesn't look so bad if attendances are added in (93k/144k).

Think the NRL will struggle consistently to get 200k FTA in Sydney on a Saturday Night simply because it is a low ratings night, but 135k seems unders for them (maybe due to this game being the first FTA game for the season on a Saturday night).

I get the impression that AFL is very slowly making ground on NRL in Sydney. Wouldn't be surprised if the ratio of regional to metro NRL ratings continues to rise slowly over time due to an aging demographic and some migration of retirees to coastal areas.

We’re the swans on 7 mate? Storm got 50k in Melbourne of Friday night on the ch 9 main channel

Channel 9 clearly far more sincerely committed to the nrl

7mate. Yeah it's a pity they are not on the main channel more often. That was a good aspect when Ten had the rights. Swans games on Saturday nights were on the main channel.

According to the TV guide, the giants today will be on the main channel, which is rare. Hopefully it's correct.

Channel 9 even puts NETBALL on the main channel. Channel 7 should at least be putting afternoon games on the main channel here

What a depressing crowd, just 21 more than our lowest ever at Etihad. 7k less than the corresponding game last year which was played in similar circumstances. Could be in for a couple more ugly crowds to round out the season with games against the dogs and crows at etihad.

There is no way you could confidently say that with any accuracy by a cursory glance through a tv screen.

Anyway I notice GWS are the only club here that gets questioned in regards to crowd figure integrity even though Spotless crowds are counted independent of the club or the AFL. I've come to see over the years that when it comes to GWS, the haters and the doubters will always slant towards disbelieving and skepticism. You are just another example of that.
Outside of Giants fans a majority of people think the Giants crowds are fudged by up to a third or even half.

Garbage crowds in Melbourne, non vic sides are expected to get 40k at least but it’s okay for Melbourne fans to go AWOL. Pathetic.

This round just missed the top 10 ever by around 4k, coming in at 13th spot.

So will the 6 millionth fan be one of the last through the gates on Friday night at Essendon/St Kilda or one of the first there for Hawthorn/Geelong?

I'm not trolling I'm speaking the truth which perhaps you can't handle.
Even some mods have queried the crowd figures put out by the Giants.

I have queried them from photos and television shots, as well as gate/member revenues. Its purely subjective in the absence of hard data.

Well, the crowds this round hit the mark and were pretty much as predicted.

27 Matches to go.
For a new Record Crowds must Average: 28,745 (Should do easily).
To beat 1998 Crowds must Average: 34,300. (Should do easily).
To beat 2011 Crowds must Average (Gold Coast introduced to competition): 35,220 (Should do).
To beat 2006 Crowds must Average: 37,838 (Definitely line-ball).
To exceed 7 million Spectators Crowds must Average: 38,595 (Definitely a challenge).

Certainly won't threaten the Top 5 Crowd Averages. Maybe in 2019.
