Will Elliott be fit for round 1? Won’t start running until Feb? Going to take time to ease back.

The best 22 is perplexing because in part it will be a moving set piece.

We could end up with something like this with the idea that a few players become better on projection.

Players like Goldsack, Fasolo might even feel the heat to selection. Be interesting.

My instinct tells me Murray will get games and be vindicated, and I'm thinking Stephenson and Murphy are played quite a bit. We should see McLarty make a charge at selection.

I'm going to throw a few in there to indicate the potential. Otherwise we are same same and not different.

The other players that are in serious contention are Phillips, Broomhead, Daicos, (maybe he becomes a real deal type and he takes Kirbys spot). If McLarty not quite ready Dunn slots in. If Reid injured Dunn comes in McLarty goes back Moore goes forward.

Don't know about a best 22 but we need to find a way to give James Aish more midfield minutes.

We've brought him in but he hasn't been able to get the adequate game time on ball due to the likes of Adams, Pendles, Treloar, Sodebottom etc.
Even Crisp was given more midfield minutes than Aish as a centre square on baller and that was proven to be a mistake as he struggled to be a natural midfielder- since found his niche at half back.

I just think we need to find out if he can actually play because he isn't a flanker- be it half forward or half back and as such has struggled at senior level when playing a role he isn't suited for.
He's an inside midfielder and he actually doesn't shirk the contest either when you look at his size/body shape.

If we don't do this- we won't ever find out and we would have invested 2x 2nd rounders in a player who was a junior midfield star.
At VFL level he actually looks comfortable as a
Centre square player.

JDG and James Aish are the two I'm looking at for more midfield minutes to spread and carry the load on our A graders. Maybe Maynard too. We then need to get Pendles and Treloar on the outside a little more too-balanced approach of course- to make us more unpredictable; especislly Treloar who's breakaway from congestion is indispensable and need more of it.

The next rung developing should be Callum Brown, Brayden Sier etc in the VFL from an inside standpoint.

B: Howe, Jeremy (27 y/o, 141 gms) - Reid, Ben (28 y/o, 136 gms) - Scharenberg, Matthew (22 y/o, 14 gms)
HB: Varcoe, Travis (29 y/o, 185 gms) - Goldsack, Tyson (30 y/o, 161 gms) - Sidebottom, Steele (26 y/o, 185 gms)

M: Maynard, Brayden (21 y/o, 51 gms) - Adams, Taylor (25 y/o, 97 gms) - Wells, Daniel (32 y/o, 253 gms)
R: Grundy, Brodie (23 y/o, 82 gms) - Pendlebury, Scott (29 y/o, 252 gms) - Treloar, Adam (24 y/o, 122 gms)

HF: Hoskin-Elliott, Will (24 y/o, 74 gms) - Moore, Darcy (21 y/o, 47 gms) - De Goey, Jordan (21 y/o, 50 gms)
F: Elliott, Jamie (25 y/o, 89 gms) - Cox, Mason (26 y/o, 20 gms) - Fasolo, Alex (25 y/o, 100 gms)

I/C: Crisp, Jack (24 y/o, 84 gms) - Langdon, Tom (23 y/o, 57 gms) - Greenwood, Levi (28 y/o, 119 gms) - Phillips, Tom (21 y/o, 24 gms)

Emergencies: Kirby, Kayle (19 y/o, 1 gm) - Dunn, Lynden (30 y/o, 182 gms) - Aish, James (22 y/o, 55 gms)

Bit stiff on Dunn, who could probably be in that 22 on reflection, but I kept him out for a bit of team balance. Have moved Sidebottom to the HBF spot that Maynard will vacate, but you could rotate that between Sidey, Wells and Pendles. Better ball users out of the back half is more crucial to our defense then pure stopping ability. Can't buy into the idea that Moore will play purely as as a backman, but can concievably see him and Reid rotating throughout a game, or Moore going back if Coxy stays forward during different periods.

Daicos, C. Brown and Kirby will get their chance to earn games, but out of that starting forward crop I'm not sure who they displace right now. WHE, Fas and Billy Elliott are very talented and should make for a powerful combination up forward. Only thing missing is crumbers, which might open the door for Kirbs.

Blair and Mayne shouldn't get a game, however Josh Thomas will and is a little unlucky given how he finished the year. Broomhead and Aish I feel are really needing a lift if they want to survive. McLarty will continue to develop but can't see him playing more than a handful of games this season. Joshy Smith will probably get more games than I give him credit for, but I dont want us to carry his kicking issues all year. Can't see Sier making the grade at all. Ditto for Crocker and Wills

As for the rookies, Browny and Stepnenson need to hit the weightroom and probably wont be sighted in the seniors till around the halfway mark of the year (for Stephenson).

I can’t believe that some people are saying that the Murray and the new draftees are in the best 22. If that’s the case we are seriously in much worse shape than I thought.
I hope they are by the end of the year, but they haven’t even done 1 pre season yet.

It is optimistic... but a lot of that is because we need the speed and outside run, our best 22 is slow and doesn't transition the ball quick enough

Going by Hines comments Stephenson should be ready to go very early, possibly round 1.
Murray I have no idea about but he has been in the system for a couple of years so physically it shouldn't be an issue.

Yeah new draftees never make an impact in their first years especially ones picked in the top ten and there is no chance for someone who's been in the system for two years and gives us the speed we desperately need to make an impact.

Oh, I’m sorry. I thought you were posting the current best 22. Not the best 22 based on potential only. My mistake.

Some key points:
- Darcy Moore’s athleticism and run is better suited inside defensive 50 in my opinion, and I think he can develop into one of the best defenders in the league, similar to Hurley or even Rance.
- Daniel Wells plays off half-back to give us some clean ball use back there. He’s generally part of the midfield rotation though so I’m still keen to see some of his kicks hit the forward 50.
- Tyson Goldsack plays up forward. A few years ago, he was one of the best defensive forwards in the league and he’d often chip in with a goal or two. He’s a strong presence up forward which is what we need so I’d like to return him to the forward line to boost tackling and pressure.
- I’d like to see Adam Treloar play up forward a bit more, his pace and toughness is hard to stop and I can see him kicking 30+ goals if given more of a forward run.
- Langdon > Scharenberg due to performance and I still believe they can’t play in the same team. Langdon is a better mark and is superior when playing one-on-one, so honestly I’d like to even trial Shaz through midfield.

Obviously Reid and Moore can be switched around depending on what Bucks decides to do with Darcy.

Starting to get a bit of depth now and genuinely believe we are only a Tom Lynch away from being a top 4 team.

Murray my smoky to start round 1, much needed dash off half back.
