That deals a no brainer if we think smith will be there at 11, and we don’t think there’ll be a bid on West before 19.

I know the points are the same BUT I wouldn't do it. Yes IF we don't think Smith will get bid on it looks like an easy deal to make BUT why take on the risk for just an 8 pick upgrade? Someone else could trade up to pick 10 for Smith and it backfires big time.

High picks IMO are worth more than the points system values them at. Sure, consider taking the risk BUT not just for an 8 pick upgrade of a second round pick.


Edit:
Pick 7 & 27 for Pick 9 & 19 is much closer to fair value. Still, I would want a future second for our future third too.

GCS 2018 pick 6 and 2019 4th round

FOR

WBD 2019 1st round and 2018 3rd round (40 something).

I’d take it and it’s not unfair on them - every chance our first is about 6 next year so possibly a win for them and they’ve already got two other firsts before 6. We back ourselves to improve and bank on this draft.

How about this ^ then we do 7 and 27 for 11 (or 9) and 19.

Leaves us with 6 (B. King), 11 (B. Smith), 19 (best available), West and Khamis.

Why not at this stage? Back in 2012, a lot of sources reported we were going to select Oliver Wines. It was only an hour before the draft when he learned he was going to Port. Things can change very quickly.

This is true - Quayle used to have such good connections you could pretty much bank 1-10. Not so with this bloke. Reckon he might have 1-5 correct (and if wrong 1-2 correct and shuffling the other 3, with Rankine at Saints, Rozee at GCS and M. King at Port).

He’s only going on rumours, which is what you’re using to debate his top 10.

I think until the draft is over we probably shouldn’t be calling horseshit on what we’re hearing until we’re 100% sure what we’re stating isn’t horseshit either.

Given the AFL set up a 2 week window for pick only trades immediately predraft and nobody did anything (other than an extremely minor trade of picks in the 50s and beyond), it may be asking too much for clubs to come to major trades within a 2 minute window.

I suspect bidding clubs will need to hand up their arses to get a deal done.

Caro tonight has said that Gold Coast rejected a trade offer from St. Kilda (pick 4 for picks 6 and 24). The notion is that the Saints want Bailey Smith and think they can slide down to 6 and still get him because apparently, Port are "super keen" on Max King.
