The whole draft period stinks for us last year
The eagles deal ( Clayton sold the farm for no reason at all)
The Freo deal ( pick 2 for a good not great player, this is more than we will likely get for Lynch)
Wil Powell, looks like a great kid but we over paid by a mile.
See any common trends above, I want to buy property from Clayton.
I think pick 2 is overrated for a side like GC because of the list , a year is not a long time , but playing AFL or state league with full time environment will benefit players professionally, I am looking at Flitsch 20+ age best VFL player overlooked by previous draft , hungry to get draft is way better than Powell and if GC got few seconds Rd pick GC can get both with less pressure for first Rd pick to perform straight away.
. Anyway I hope the current list manager don't do some stupid deal like clayton.

He was our best player in the VFL last year and is probably leading it this year also , Ball magnet with huge heart but doesnt fit our running pressure game style Jack Graham,Dion Prestia,Josh Caddy have taken any position he has a chance to cement.

Sam Lloyd & Anthony Miles would of been a good get for the suns and are the type of players that would really improve culture and comradarie in any team
Woul hardly cost anything and would be good gets for you guys until the cream rises for a couple of years.

Miles absolutely murdered north on the weekend someone will definitely take him at the end of the year

Do you really believe that Clayton made the calls? So the club announces that Clayton is leaving after draft but yet let him do whatever he wants. May be you should direct your criticism towards Evans and Dew who no doubt in my mind made the calls. Just watch Clayton's face when he signs off Weller's deal.

At the moment, to label Powell deal 'over paid' is a stretch in my opinion. Talent wise Powell has written Martin all over him, even Dew mentioned that Powell has special things.Yes, he is not ready but if he turns out in 3 years as good as Martin I will call the pick a steal. Powell is well ahead of Martin in his first year - already gained 5 kg, probably will be stronger/bigger than Martin, great attitude, working hard during games. Just watch his goals against Canberra to see how talented he is.

I don’t think anyone thought the eagles were going to be this good last year.
To be fair as well, WCE have had the easiest run in the league so far - Played Swans, Suns, Dockers, Cats and Port at home, and only the Bulldogs, Carlton and an injury plagued GWS away from home.

Yes I do think Clayton make the call, Evans and Dew want Weller regardless of what pick, his face look crap because the deal he did with Eagles got no effect on Weller deal , the Ablett deal get GCS Powell no matter what happen . To pour acid into the wound what the hell GCS sacrifice this year second Rd pick too to eagles .

Edit : if Freo (rebuilding ) are stupid enough to accept this year eagles 1st rd pick they could end up getting pick 14-17 compare to 2014 (pick 11) . GCS multiple second Rd pick still go to Eagles .

*active defensive posting*
Against the injury ravaged giants WCE were missing what most people would acknowledge is their three most influential players, Shuey, Nicnat and &Mcgovern, plus a few other best 22 players Sheed etc

And on their draw:
However its not like its that hard from here on in though, especially to finish the season.
R18 West Bulldogs (Perth)
R19 NM (Tassie)
R20 Freo (Perth)
R21 Port (Adelaide) - West Coast never lost to Port at Adelaide Oval, and only lost at Adelaide Oval once in 7 goes. (also get to play Adelaide at AO in rd 15)
R22 Melb (Perth)
R23 Brisbane (Gabba)

If form doesn't markedly change you'd think they'd win at least 5 of that 6
Win against Richmond on the weekend will have a two game gap on 3rd (naturally lose and its a one game gap), in which case given the above finish if they win you'd be almost locking in a top 4 finish, with top 2 likely.

If he cares about getting a game he would consider the Suns - our midfield is poo and with at least 2 of Rischa, Barlow and Rosa on the way out and Hall most likely to go there will be ample opportunities for a player of his caliber to walk into the midfield - even if he is somewhat similar to Touk and Brodie, he is a known quantity and can cut it at the level.

If Lynch leaves and we didn't match, the Tigers should be throwing back a couple of their decent off-cuts as a thank you present.

Powell is well ahead of Martin in his first year

That is complete horseshit

Martin as a 17 yo was BOG in about 4 NEAFL games and I heard from the coaches at the time he would have played AFL all year if we were allowed to do so

Great language your use :) Just different opinion. Martin only started to deliver the last 3 years. First year he played AFL was in 2014 (after 2 preseason), I remember he did shoulder in first 10 min, when he came back - still stick like Powell, talented but disappeared for long periods of games. Powell works harder than Martin did early. BOG NEAFL 5 years ago (season 2013, he was actually 18 yo) - nice to know as well to hear from our great assistant coaches. Powell may get BOG this year too, he sure was the best forward against Canberra in first half before fading out.

OK, I never watched Martin in NEAFL so did a bit of search and found this:

NEAFL Team of the Week
Round 12 2013
Talking point:
Jack Martin could be anything. After playing almost 300 AFL games, winning three premierships, and a Norm Smith Medal, Shaun Hart is a good judge of a player. Hart knows he’s mentoring an “absolute beauty” in 18-year-old Martin. “Jack has been outstanding for us in the past month – a big reason we’ve won five games in a row has been his form,” Hart smiled. “He’s a wonderful player because of his work rate both ways, his ability to work his way through contested situation, and the way he understands and reads the game. He has no real weaknesses, and I believe he could be anything as a player – if he was old enough he’d probably be in our best senior 22 already.”

You sure were correct to call my comment 'horseshit" and Martin was indeed ahead of Powell in his first year :)

Apologies - I didn't mean for it to come off personal. I just visualise myself being like Kurt Russell with a booming Amercian accent screaming those words.

Thanks for doing the research - it was nice of you put it up

I just remember hearing that Martin was jumping on blokes heads and was doing everything in the NEAFL and all we could do was wait for next year, and then after working myself in a lather he injured himself in the first contest - that day was such a let down.

We can only hope that Craig Cameron crushes this year's draft...

Jayden Hunt is one for my wishlist.. good replacement for saad and the injury concerns over kk
Can run all day and gets a bit of the ball just can't use it.
been dropped by Melbourne 3 times this year because of his poor disposal

No apology needed. It just tells me that as I get old my memory is turning shit. I guess I try to stay positive as a Suns fan, see good things in Powell. He may still turn out disappointment.

Quicker than anyone on our list, line breaker out of defence. Contracted for a couple more years but would be a very handy pick up. KK is a huge concern for me, saad gone. Think he fills a need

I love Powell too. He definitely has some of those Martin-like traits with the lean frame, clean hands and knowing where the goals are. I think he'll be OK - from what I see through our media he seems to have great character and talent, he just needs a little time for his body to catch up.

Was Powell recruited as a small forward or to develop into a mid? Averaging only 4 possessions a game in the last 3 but seems to kick 1-2 each week.

Hard to judge, theres always hope. Powell looks very similar to how Nat Fyfe did in his first year, and we know Fyfe is a proper unit now.

They were all recruited by Clayton with an eye to develop into mids (or so we were told) - Powell, Ah Chee, Martin, Garlett, Lonergan, Weller, Lemmens, Wigg, Allen, Boston, Glenn, Gillbee, Russell, Toy, Wilkinson, Shaw, Hunt, Matera.... have I missed anyone.

Hell - names there I've clean forgot... and you say you may have forgotten others..
