I don't subscribe to that theory. There's plenty that would try and hack those players at a league level so I'm not sure why it would mentally weaken them at a national level.
The fact they're already talking about it in all media.

Make no mistake, they would be concerned about this and their tendency to ease into a tournament. The longer we can stay in the game the more pressure they will feel.

Personally I reckon we go a goal down early and have to scrap out the game.

Anyone listen to Santo, Sam and Ed? Interesting poddy about our chances against France.
This is going to seem weird given he is a radio presenter/actor/comedian but I genuinely rate Ed as a football analyst. He's seen every minute of every world cup game since 1990 and it seems like he spends most of his downtime watching football.

Yeah I was amazed at his comments, you rarely get someone who can discuss games in such technical detail.

Plus he thinks Irvine should start so who am I to disagree? :p

I don't think the reason the French have come out and been, well, French is because they're scared of getting tackled. I'd say it's moreso them trying to influence the referees before the game has even started.

On that note, who are the referees officiating?

They've not been known to like the physical style of opponents.

Mbappe has lost his stack after a big tackle before, notably cried when he was playing for Monaco and PSG targeted him. He was also 17 at the time. The Ligue 1 is a physical league full of African players from the French colonies and tough kids from the banlieue. Kicking them is just as likely to make them raise their tempo. I wouldn't bank on overwhelming them physically but van Marwijk rates our physicality as our best weapon supposedly so might happen. I think we'll just have to hold the ball well when we have it so we don't get pinned in and exhausted. France's slow build up will work well for us to get back into shape and we'll work hard to plug gaps but they're very fluid up front. Griezmann and Mbappe both have great movement and it's not a question of just getting back into shape, Ryan will have to make some good saves IMO.

You need examples of players sooking when getting hit with a heavy tackle at club level?

I dunno, pick the 70% of games Pogba played this season where he was shit because he copped some attention.

You’re the one claiming it to be factual. Rather than pulling out an arbitrary number, surely you have an actual game where this has happened?

If they were so easy to bully off the ball, opposition players would have figured that out already. You’re looking at things optimistically which is fine but i feel like you’re clutching at straws.

I feel like you're trying desperately to find things to argue about before realizing how silly you're being.

I can think of plenty of games where high profile players were crunched and then had minimal impact.

Mane against us when we beat pool 2-0; pogba against us where united won 1-0 in the 95th; just off the top of my head.

You trying to claim that going physical on teams that rely on technical skill will have no impact is quite strange.

Haha “I feel like...”. Ok then...

You made the claim that these big name players will not have an impact if Australia go hard at them and then have provided a single instance that’s actually occurred to a French player. By all means, make the suggestion but when someone asks you to back it up, come back with something better than “I feel like” and “is quite strange”.

You’re the one who made the claim, I’m just asking you to provide evidence of it.

Yeah must be imagining those random comments about reading into form or Irvine being better to start than jedinak. Silly me.

Did I? I said if we're physical against France we can put them off their game. I'm not alone in saying that.

Did I not?
