But perhaps it’s more so then making GC squirm with a potential flight risk at 6 (ie, you’re not getting 4, so you’re nit getting Rozee and you don’t want the flight risk of Smith and Kings) and perhaps willing to take a couple of high picks again together next year. Agree that it’s a hard sell, but perhaps there’s an angle.
They will get flight risks in every draft.

Here it is anyway.

WA highlighted for you.

ST KILDA

DRAFT PICKS: 4, 36, 46, 67, 79 KEY DEFENDERS: Jake Carlisle, Nathan Brown, Logan Austin, Darragh Joyce, Oscar Clavarino SMALL/MEDIUM DEFENDERS: Dylan Roberton, Jarryn Geary, Jimmy Webster, Daniel McKenzie, Shane Savage, Brandon White, Nick Coffield, Bailey Rice, Ben Paton, Doulton Langlands MIDFIELDERS: Jack Steven, Seb Ross, Jack Steele, Jack Sinclair, Dan Hannebery, Blake Acres, Jack Newnes, Luke Dunstan, Hunter Clark, David Armitage, Ed Phillips KEY FORWARDS: Josh Bruce, Paddy McCartin, Tim Membrey, Josh Battle, Rowan Marshall, SMALL/MEDIUM FORWARDS: Jade Gresham, Jack Billings, Dean Kent, Jack Lonie, Ben Long RUCKS: Billy Longer, Lewis Pierce, Sam Alabakis

North Melbourne have been the butt of jokes about failing to land big-name players, but the Saints have been in the hunt for plenty in recent times as well, unable to secure the likes of Josh Kelly or Dylan Shiel. Getting either of those Greater Western Sydney midfielder would have been a boon for St Kilda for the biggest knock on the Saints’ list remains a lack of bona fide stars in any position. That makes pick four a huge decision for them, and despite talk they could trade that selection it is still expected they will hold onto it. Curiously, the two players they have been most strongly linked to in that position are both Saints fans. Victorian tall forward Max King has spent some of the year with St Kilda as he rehabilitates his torn ACL, while South Australian Connor Rozee is a terrific ball user, and is versatile. The sky is the limit for King, but the Saints are reasonably well-stocked for tall forwards, while Rozee probably better addresses St Kilda’s needs. Later in the draft it wouldn’t be a shock if the Saints chanced their arm on utility Tom Jok, who impressed with Collingwood’s VFL side and took out St Kilda’s time trial earlier this month after being invited to train by the Saints. West Australian mature-ager Marlion Pickett is another believed to be on the Saints’ radar. Like Tim Kelly last year, Pickett tore it up in the WAFL for South Fremantle this year.

I’m starting to lean towards king again. Just seems to have the most star factor out of the players we are looking at. Rozee looks good but I’d want to be certain he would make it as a midfielder if I was picking him. I don’t want another half back flanker. I feel like you can’t go wrong with smith, the safest bet out of all of them but potentially the lowest ceiling. Caldwell is the one that interests me. He looks explosive around the stoppages and has a well built frame. Pure midfielder with an inside/outside game. My order of preference is:

King
Caldwell
Smith
Rozee

I like the idea , but I guess I'm more of a greedy pr*ck. Gold Coast also has 29 , so I would try and get 6 , 24 and 29 in exchange for 4 , 36 and 46. Gold Coast are looking to add a couple more mature aged players so moving back to 36 and 46 should be no skin off their nose.
You're being very nice to Gold Coast in that trade. They are barely paying a premium to move into top 5 territory. (2867 points to 3189 - barely 10%)

I reckon minimum 20% surcharge applies so how about 4, 36 & 67 for 6, 24 & 29 (2605 points to 3189).

So many options - so many scenarios - I'm gonna be a bit p***ed off next week when the drafts all done and dusted.

Nothing left to ponder!!!!!!!!!!

You are of the opinion that St Kilda have always been going to draft Max King. I don’t know and nobody else outside the inner sanctum does either. My point was that the anticipated top 4 may not work out that way and that suddenly clubs who want to trade in or out may be tempted to do so.

Nothing is a lock. It is also possible Saints (or any club) has a different view of the top 4 than the so-called draft experts. If for example 2 of the anticipated top 4 players are still there at pick 4 why wouldn’t Saints trade down with Port if an acceptable offer was put to them.

Maybe, hypothetically speaking, Saints rank Lukosius at 5 and maybe Port rank him at 1. Then a deal involving pick 4 is very possible if St Kilda believes one of their top 4 players would still be there at pick 5 and Port aren’t sure how Saints have ranked the draft.

Things are probably very fluid. I think the impact of live trading of draft picks is unpredictable.

Lukosius is No 1 all day, how ever good walsh is he's better because he's a tall forward you pay a premium for them, the comparison to riewoldt is accurate and i would actually say he's better because he a lot better kick, smarter footballer and a better mark, the only place riewoldt would have him covered is in his athleticism, im sure you would rate riewoldt in the top 5 saints players of all time, so you dont pass on him

Might be time to show yourself out after those comments

Lukosius is a potential star, but please....

A kid who has yet to play one AFL game is a smarter footballer, better mark and better kick than Riewoldt?

I’m afraid you’ve lost any credibility you may have had on here.

Lukosious could be Riewoldt or he could be Watts. His lack of aggression & intensity is a concern.

Isn't the rationale that the draft day scenario would be this

Walsh
Lukicous
Rankine

All gone.

Leaving Rozee Smith and Max King put of the top six.
GC want Rozee so trade 6 and 24 for our 4.
They are take Rozee. Port at 5 had been reported to want King if the SA boys are gone.
This leaves Smith @ 6

Yeah that's best case scenario, I'd be happy with that. Not sure Port are as sold on King as we've been told though. If they are though and Smith gets through to 6 that'd be a steal and an extra 20s pick out of it would be good too

Top ten shortlist for picks 36, 46, 67 etc. (in order):

Luke Foley
Tom Sparrow
Jack Bytel
Tom McKenzie
Jacob Kennerley
Fraser Turner
Michael Gibbons
Aiten Delaney
Marlion Pickett
Jackson Ross
Would like to know what Jack Bytels back problem was from, if only from a growth spurt, then if we got him with a late pick, he’d be a steal. Pretty sure he was being touted in the top 10 at the beginning of the year.

I like the look of Will Hamill.

Good kick, quick, seems pretty athletic. Tall half back flanker/ wing, classic Trout pick.
