Like this talk of trading our 2019 1st round pick to the suns for pick 6 this year. Big stumbling block is that we have traded our future 2nd in the Hanners trade. I'm not sure of the rules around this but if we trade in another future 3rd round pick, will this allow us to trade a future 1st? Or are we required to specifically to acquire a future 2nd round pick?

If I were the saints, I'd look at the following trade:
2019 1st + pick 36 for pick 6 + suns 2019 3rd round pick

If the saints rate this draft much higher than next year, worth pulling the trigger. Good chance that saints have a top 5 pick next year. The suns also strengthen their draft hand in next year's draft. Anyone know if the suns have any highly rated academy prospects next year?

Would be awesome to pick up Max King and Caldwell/Smith in this year's draft.
I would keep next years first because you never know we might need it to secure a big fish, even if we just go with pick 4 and the late picks I will be happy, whoever we get will only be a improvement going forward.

Big call.. recruiters have recently gone off of upside and what they will be all of Oliver Cripps and Bontempelli were drafted on upside not what they did in there 18th year.. got to back your recruiters in to develop who has the most potential
These recruiters need to factor in whether these upside players can get a lot of the ball , and whether they can take a game by the scruff of the neck , like each of the players you mentioned did. All 3 finished their draft year very strongly. They are not too risky. The Spencer White (couldn't get a kick in a stampede) types are the ones to avoid. This types inability to get enough of the ball , speaks to many things , but especially to their reading of the play and workrate.

Lol anyway lets move on. I'd suggest to not buy into any opposition trolling in the future.

I'm all fairness Spencer White did look like he was going to be a superstar. I remember watching a clip of him when we drafted him and I was sure we had a total champion in the making. I remember telling friends at the time that we had drafted the best potential player since Franklin. I wasn't on here at the time so I don't know what others thought of him when we first drafted him. But it does show that drafting isn't an exact science and we all get things wrong. Whether Max King for example turns out to be a champion is as much an unknown risk as is Walsh. You can never be sure.

Not commenting off specific knowledge, but given the rules are really just there to save the clubs from themselves and all we would be doing is using the same first pick early, then hard to see this being an issue for sign off by the AFL. It's not like it's some kind of cheating. Trading all of your own picks is not an advantage. But of course the AFL may want to avoid precedent in a future less clear cut issue

Gee Matthew Richardson was obviously a better contested mark than I remember. Just goes to show memories can be wrong sometimes lol.

What am I missing about Smith? A lot of people really like him, I must have looked at the wrong highlights package. The one I saw he looked about a level below Hunter Clark was in his draft year. Can someone link to another highlights package please. I am happy to be wrong.

riewoldt was never a very good kick and he got a little better towards the end, you wouldnt say he was a great contested marker, most of his marking was done on the lead after burning off his opponents and i will say he was a smart footballer but he did have some brain fades along the way as heath shaw will concur

Seriously, re read your post saying that Lukosios is better than Riewoldt (not will be in the future, mind you, but now) and I think you’ll find that it’s YOU who’s had the brain fade.

spencer white's first game was a gem. I was in the richmond cheer squad and we were getting pumped. He snagged three and took a nice contested grab. made the day worth it

He did look good that day, I was so excited about him.

This one goes alright

Quick hands, breakaway speed, good vision, also reminds me of Gaz jr the way he holds the ball when he kicks

you've got a good eye for talent BT

If you compare Roo and JL in their draft years, yes JL would look better but your comparing a player who got drafted when JL was born. They have a lot of similarities but JL has a higher bust factor than Roo did, I dont see JL making AA, winning BnF in his second year or made captain or being capable of leading a team all by the age of 23, he probably start playing consistently when Roo pretty much achieved half of his stuff.

We have Long and Longer. Our Clark, Kent, Steele. Our Jack's. Bice and Rice sounds nice.

Not only Jacks but half a team full of players names starting with J like Josh, Jade, Jake, Jimmy, Jacks of course, Jarryn, so Bice and Rice is fine to me lol.
