How do you know that? How does it play out?
Because Melbourne got the Frawley pick. Because the AFL is a plastic organisation that will not allow one of their expansion clubs to fall further behind with an average compo pick. They make the rules up as they go, and they have form.

As for whether they take that pick four over say, pick 17 this year and pick 15 next year... Would you trade our first this year for that? I certainly wouldn't.

AFL will absolutely give the GC pick 4. No question about it.

I would rate pick four over two pick 17s also.

Pick 4 could end up going home after 2 years .
Two late teen picks could end up getting them 2-3 established 25+ y.o AFL standard players .
Gold Coast knows their top 30 listed players are thin in experience and standard .

But what if Pies offered Moore and pick 17 and second round next year for example? I would think all 3 - Lynch, Pies and GC would want to see a fair deal done.

GC forcing a trade may not be as clear cut as we think.

Say Lynch nominates Collingwood or Richmond, both currently sitting in the top two. I don't expect that to be the case by the end of the year but for the sake of this argument I will assume they are grand finalists.

Do Gold Coast really want two first rounders if they are potentially two picks after pick 17? Any fringe players attached to the deal would be minor.

With the twins deservedly sitting within the top five picks this year I believe it would be in their best interest to take the compensation. Not only would they get a gun tall, they also shoot down the go home factor to draft the twins.

Of course that would also help us as a pair of Kings would leave us free to take an Ace in Walsh or Rankine.
When people mention it being in the interests of Gold Coast drafting the twins to prevent the go home factor, the other way I look at it is that if one of the twins are unhappy and they want to leave, the other twin is more inclined to follow.

For the sake of us drafting one of Walsh, Rankine or Smith, I hope that Gold Coast follow the logic of drafting the brothers together. Then a few years down the track, both King brothers request to be traded back to Victoria and both are inseparable and want to play at the saints together ;)

Is this correct, the GC compensation pick would be the pick immediately after their first round pick? Are they even guaranteed compensation if a club trades to them for Lynch?
Two schools of thought on this.
I went with what I think is the most probable: that either Collingwood, Richmond or Hawthorn make an offer to Lynch that places him in that band which would earn GC a compensation pick immediately after their first pick.
Apparently he’s on a $mill up there so I cannot imagine this being a huge hurdle.
Hence the scenario I’ve drawn.

The second school of thought has Hawthorn, Richmond or Collingwood negotiating a trade that is acceptable to GC. That’s something that will depend on what those clubs offer. It’s going to be expensive as, given current ladder positions, 2 first rounders (this year’s and next) aren’t going to get it done.
I’m not sure such a trade is likely.

However for the scenario I drew that has Lukosius falling to our pick, if GC do negotiate a trade for Lynch, then they would lose the compo pick.
They would be Pick 3, us at Pick 4.
I reckon it’d be less likely that they’d then pick a King over Lukosius if he was still there.

But at Pick 4 we would still have plenty of high grade talent to choose from.
Just not Lukosius.

Yeah I’d be very surprised if Lukosius is not 1, at worst 2. The way it is going, if we could get 3 likely we get Walsh which I think is a great result. If we end up with pick 4 the outcome is far less clear I think. Kings are wild card in all this. Could go top 3, could go around 4 - 8.

I still dont think Lynch is a certainty to leave. And if the afl arnt doing everything to keep him up north their kidding themselves.
The afl need to find out does he want to leave to come back to Victoria or does he want money. If its just money they have to step in with Gap funding. They invest millions and are committed to a 50 year plan on the gold coast. If the only reason hes leaving is money and ge goes they might as well just fold that club now.

Don't know if whether or not it's been stated before, but does anyone else see a bit of Aker in old mate Rankine?

In my mind I just can't see how any club wouldn't want this kid.
Even if you can only have him for a couple of years, I'd take purely for the excitement factor he'll bring over that time.

Toot Toot! All aboard the Rankine Train...

Yeah, I was on Stephenson last year for the same reason. These guys are sparks for their team and are the difference a lot of the time. He's just got so much ridiculous X factor elements in his game. He was dominating the under 17 all stars match so much that they made him change at half time not to embarrass the others. I would take him at pick one if I had it.

Gilbert could potentially pop Ollie Wines' head with his flying elbows today.

Being pragmatic at Gold Coast , I would keep draft picks myself .
Think smart move would take the King Bros, rather than off cuts from other clubs .
As for StKilda just pick the best player , simple theory .

Yep. The "secret formula" strikes again. In whatever way the AFL need it to.

They need to pay someone though. Hall will be gone. Ablett is gone. Lynch gone. Boy oh boy they must have some cap space. What about Lynch compo pick for M McGovern (so Crowe can draft a gun local kid) and a huge offer to J McGovern as FA. Still lots of picks left for young mids.

No, no, no, no, no!
We don't want either SA side near the top 5 thank you very much ;)

Better off paying their kids extension contracts like they did with Ainsworth , Brodie. Etc

Long haul for them , because they went quick fix unfortunately.

AFL got it wrong paying big price for it ..should have been Southport Sharks takeover making them

“Gold Coast Sharks “ would have been on their way now to being competitive.
