Well they resized it during the upgrade anyway, just didn't change it to match the MCG. It's now wider than it was, possibly also shorter I think. And there aren't any old stands left. Trees will be gone is 20 years too, wait & see. $$$ is king.

The trees ain't going anywhere - until they die.
Which sent me to Google, and for what it's worth...

Moreton Bay Figs live for over 100 years in the wild. However that article is accompanied by a picture of a MBF in The Domain, Sydney, planted in 1850.

They were planted "as far back as the 1890s"

Based on that, we might be looking at another 20-30 years minimum before the health of the trees becomes an issue enough to justify their removal.

Does anyone know if Crocmedia and Fairfax are competitors?

Channel 9s merge with Fairfax could mean Hutch and his henchmen kicked off the channel?

I wonder if it affects our Domain (Fairfax) sponsorship as we are also a partner with C7.

Maybe he's right to go.
With some great pain killers.

Jonas running at full tilt two weeks after a surgery to remove floating bone fragments is a borderline miracle.

Especially when he is listed as 3 to 4 weeks on the AFL injury list.

Port rushing back Ryder and Jonas for their match against the hapless bulldogs.
Ken said today .. could make shock returns for the Power’s game with the Western Bulldogs at Ballarat on Sunday.
We'll see how they respond to their training today, but we're pretty confident they're going to play," Power coach Ken Hinkley told reporters on Thursday.

Meh... just build the stand over the trees. We all know how well trees do when enclosed....

So listing Jonas as 3 to 4 weeks away was just BS?

Having a fitness test to play this week suggests he is certain for the Showdown.

Precisely

This is bordering on maladministration and manipulation of the league

It’s simply crazy
Ok, so hypothetically let's say these rule trials come in this year in games that "don't matter." And let's say two teams on equal wins play each other in one of these games. One picks their strongest team, and, I dunno, maybe the other drops their senior players, debuts 10 young kids, plays players out of position and drags players who kick too many goals.

What would the AFL's reaction be, considering they've now effectively said the result of these games means nothing?

Exactly

Do as I say not do as I do type “let’s get Dean Bailey” monumental hypocrisy

I don’t think it is as simple as building the eastern stand further to the east. The shape of the western stand would have had to be changed otherwise you would have had an asymmetric oval, or the distance between the boundary and the stand would have had to vary along the length of the western stand.

On top of that I think the size of AO makes it much better to watch games at compared to the MCG where the action can be very far away when on the eastern boundary.

Let’s remember Geelong had no problem dominating and they have the most unusual ground in the AFL as their how and training base.
AO is shorter by 4m only and the comparison be shows they could have built a wider oval with the western boundary pretty much as it is ... as others have said, it's probably the greenies that prevented it happening. Academic now, anyway.

Crocmedia and Fairfax do compete in the Melbourne radio market with SEN and 3AW+Macquarie Sports Radio but Crocmedia are still producing Sportsday for 3AW and 6PR and footy coverage for 6PR and Sports Radio in Brisbane and Sydney
