No one thought Hayward would get a game last year. Papley & Hewett the year before. McCartin will play fwd.
If i'm hearing correct .....Aliir Aliir 2nd ruck resting forward .....wouldn't he be preferred to a skinny McCartin?

Don't get me wrong,. McCartin will be a good player .....but 1st year skinny KPP, rarely do much SC wise

I don't think Aliir is in the frame for a R/F role. That's Towers spot to loose. AFIK, Aliir will play in defence if he gets a spot.

I didn't say he'd score well. I just said he's a sneaky chance to play. :)

Venables didnt look that great, Bolton ahead of Higgins, Poholke not amazing JS due to Crows depth, Ahearn being eased back apparently.

Fritsch is locked in though.

A midfield spot looks to be open and he appears to be front of the queue or close to it. On the cusp? yes. Watch list? yes. Hoping he has a better JLT2 and gets a crack. The likeness to Shuey is uncanny.

Fritsch will struggle for games ahead of Garlett

Nope, the Demons love him. Have done since mid season last year. Was always destined to be a Dee. Good luck to the kid, he's a ripper. Will debut and debut early.

Higgins won't debut until mid-season IMO. Looking more likely that Bolton will take Rioli's spot R1, then once fit and healthy Rioli will come straight in for the most under-performing small FWD we have at the time. Higgins will most likely debut when we decide to rest one of our small FWDs.

I understand the love for the small forwards but from an outsiders perspective, the kid looks to not only have an AFL body but the game that will translate to it. With Hardwicks love for contested ball players, Higgins should be playing round 1 imho.

Would take him ahead of Ryan and Rioli that's for sure. Here's hoping to a better JLT 2

Venables is a midfielder. The other two are forwards

If you were talking about SC relevance(?), I would still probably take Venables over the other two. Venables was almost ready made when he came into the system. The other two are small forwards. Easy to see why Venables JS appears better than the the aforementioned two.

Yeah I meant picking Venables up forward in SC

Venables isn't a natural midfielder, I think the spot that is open to him is the half forward role.
This was previously taken my Redden/Sheed/Masten/Partington over the last few years.

With Priddis/Mitch leaving, this means that Redden should go full time midfield.
Sheed will still spend some time in midfield, while still occasionally playing the HF role.
Yeo will play more midfield along with HB role.
Masten has been taken out to pasture.

The other issue is that Le Cras seems to still be in favour so he is likely to also play that half forward role with Cripps and Rioli/Ryan as the small fwds.

It looks like Ah Chee is also in line to play that fwd/mid role, although I believe Venables is ahead of him for that position.

So despite our changes it's not clear cut that a spot is open for Venables, he'll still need to play well, he struggled a bit to get involved on Sunday, but looks very good when he gets it, he clearly needs more time on park to get used to AFL and I hope Simpsons persists as he did with Duggan last year.

He will play as a midfielder in the end. Like Shuey transformed from into what he is now. He should be pushing hard for a spot in the 22.
