I’ve been told all along that he genuinely hadn’t made a decision and that nothing was going to be confirmed until tomorrow. Was doing my head in seeing people crow early about him already signing.

From what I was told there was never any gaurantees between the coach & Gaff or between Gaff’s management and the club.

I was confident it would happen but I’m not surprised it hasn’t.

I beleive we must be doing something wrong: Heeney, Kelly, Martin, DeGoey & now Gaff. Don’t get me wrong I’m happy Polec and Hall have chosen us but they aren’t on the same level as those mentioned above (minus DeGoey).

I think every knock back hurts us more for the next pursuit of an A-Grader.

I dont like the idea of taking findlayson. Effectly gws are trying to jetison him to ease their wages squeeze. If sheil walks the chances of getting kelly next year are zilch. Why on earth would they let their best player walk.

My mail was pre-finals, Gaff had verbally agreed to the club and to Brad personally that he would be at North in 2019, so much so that Scott was confident enough he was was coming and shared the news publicly.

An associate of mine in the finance industry, a lidquidator by trade confirmed this over lunch with Bradley and nothing in the past month had me believing otherwise.

Today’s news that West Coast upped their offer seems to be based on Lycett leaving and they found some more coin.

But we have found new ground, the longest an unsigned player has gone without leaving and then staying put.

My concern is a player commits to us and we never close the deal.
Is it life after footy where we are a smaller club that leaves us hamstrung in this deals? Can we not offer the incentives and lucrative deals the bigger clubs can?

Disappointing but we move on. As much as Kelly signed a two year deal last year and stayed, Gaff signed a 2 year deal in 2016 and eventually stayed also.

Fair play to Gaff. Home calling, millions on offer, mrs quits her job, old man sick and still chose to stay.
I very much doubt his decision to stay was influenced by another 100k or so, it seemed like he was torn between family or staying loyal to his club all along. Maybe people should have believed his manager when he said he swore on his children’s lives that Gaff had not made his decision, and he was still unsure. Seems like that’s exactly how it’s played out, I very much doubt there was a late increased offer or a third party deal.

Interesting take.

Where is Josh Kelly in all of this?

Are some too bullish on him arriving next year?

The thing that's wrong is that they can convince them to come but cannot get a final signature. It doesn't matter how good they are at getting someone to agree to consider joining our club. If they can't actually get the final signature - it means absolutely nothing.

The fact all of this is completely out in the public due to the way the AFL works these days impacts the perception we are battlers. Players will be influenced - it's just a human reaction to be.

I don't have a single problem with any of the ITK guys posting what they know. I'm frustrated with the club

Would you be frustrated with the club if they didn’t try to recruit gun footballers?

From where I sit, no club has been closer to Martin, Kelley, De Goey and Gaff than north has other than the clubs they decided not to leave

Collingwood Richmond West Coast. Powerful clubs off the field. Sydney and GWS are going to be hard to prise good young fit talent from. AFL won't let it happen.

Target Port player, get Port player.

That's the trend. We need to start sniffing around weaker clubs.

Confirmed now in the WA press

West Coast midfielder Andrew Gaff has rejected North Melbourne's lucrative contract offer and will remain with the Eagles.

Gaff, who missed the Eagles' premiership win through suspension, has flown to Melbourne and on Sunday told North Melbourne football chief Cameron Joyce he had decided to remain with West Coast.

That quick plane trip did have me puzzled. Amazing.

The man clearly has no integrity.

All stayed at their original club, who's the last player we had up and leave that we really cared about?
