If we get 18 (lobb) and 5 of brissy. I would be trying to do 11 and our future 1st for hogan with a future 2nd coming back. Would place more value on 5 this year (Smith) than our 2019 1st even with the risk of it being 1-4. GCS may prefer this as extra currency next year (this year has a bit of go home factor especially at 5/6/7 rankine/kings)
Agree future first is better than 5 but I would only do it with 11 if we got picks back. Maybe a 3rd each of this year and next (to allow us to trade our future first).

Hope you guys at least bought us dinner before you ****ed us.

Huge deal for you guys, a minor 5 pick down grade and you also get 2x2nd rounders. The 3rd rounders basically offset, but enables you more picks this year at the expense of next year.

No offence but with your future third we'll be death riding you hoping for a pick in the 37-40 range. Expecting you'll be far better than that though.

Don't hate us over our 2019 ladder position impacting a 3rd rounder for you. I think it's easily offset by you guys completely destroying our morale at the start of the past two seasons.

You clearly want quality over quantity

We’ll wine and dine you somewhere nice and expensive.

I'm assuming you guys desperately want someone that you think will be there at 6 but not 11.

Because yeah, i'm pretty happy with that pick swap.

I will be upset if we give 5 and 11 for Hogan.
I believe we will hang onto 11. At least that’s the vibe I get from Bell’s comment to the trade with Port.

5 will definitely be on the table for Hogan (if we get it) and then it is up to us to sweeten the deal according to agreed value.

With Beams wanting out you would think that Brisbane will get Pick 18.

Alternatively with Port getting 6, Adelaide may suddenly be very interested in Pick 5.

5, Mayes, 44> 8, 16, 73 (or a pick around 60 if Adelaide receive for another trade)
23 used to get Lobb with some sugar for GWS.
8, 16> Neale

8, 16, 49> Hogan (and a pick swap where bring 81 forward to around 68-73)

11, 30, 69 - I think we have our eye on Jordan Clarke so it is similar to our downgrade in 2016 for Logue.

Hmmm. We might have increased our hand with the move with port, but i wonder if we ****ed ourselves because of it. We've still reduced our hand out of a top 7 that was phenomenal - so for clubs looking to draft, we're actually in a worse position now than before from a trading sense. We held more power when we had pick 6, and now if we do trade for Lachie we'll have a diminished return

I'm still confused how anyone can think we are worse off? Possible scenarios:
  • Keep Neale, get Lobb, use pick 11 (on Clark/Hill or another slider), 30 on O'Reilly?, 49 on ? OR make a play for Hogan using 11 + future 1st (get future 3rd back to allow it)
  • Neale goes for 8 + 13/16, get Lobb, use pick 8, 11, 13/16 in the draft (get a gun at 8, Hill, Clark), plus 30&49 as above
  • Neale goes as above, get Lobb, use 8+13/16 for Hogan, use 11, 30, 49 as above
I'm pretty confident we are getting Lobb and Hogan now and without using our future 1st and whilst still having a good 1st rounder this year plus some later picks to get maybe O'Reilly or similar value players.

There is no way anyone could realistically expect us to keep 5 or 6 and get Hogan and Lobb as well. It is impossible to do that unless we use our future 1st (which is likely a top 6 pick!!! - and with a guy liked Sharp and potentially a bunch of other decent WA prospects in the mix that is massive risk).

Totally agree. Freo have an MO of always having a first rounder. Can't see us trading one out whether it's a future or not.

I wouldn't be trading our future first. However I'm all for trading 5 & 11 for Hogan and 23 for Lobb. We bring in two gun tall forwards that will set us up for the next 5-6 years at least. Make this the year we bring in experience and next year go back to picking the kids armed with a first and second rounder. Tall forwards don't grow on trees and we've got a chance to nab two.

Pick #10 this year was +50% wins

Yeah, i'm kind of allowing that free agency and academy picks will always nudge draft position up each year...so i'm thinking knocking on the Top 8 in 2019.

I might not want to sack Ross if he doesn't achieve that, but to use the Trade Radio phrase "the football industry will expect it to happen".

Just saying there's a bit of gambling when you're deciding to take or give up future picks.

Like Gold Coast last year took a future 1st from West Coast and pick 50 for picks 21,26,37 and Future 2nd.

Gold Coast wouldn't have wanted to finish 2nd last in 2018 and for West Coast to finish 1st when they agreed to that deal. Besides giving up those picks in the 20's and 30's there's not that much difference between the Future 1st they received and the Future 2nd that they've given up.

Will we back ourselves to rise up the ladder next year (like I hope we would)- meaning those future picks drop down the order and how will teams trading for our future picks see our prospects?
