Why do the bowl games exist? Is it for more money for the university's? Is it a celebration of the season? What is the reason?

To celebrate the freeing of some slaves at the end of each season.... 😉

Tradition plays a little part in why they still exist. But the main reason they still exist is the people who run the bowls along with the people who run the various conferences and the university's all have their hands in each others pockets and are making heaps of cash.

So did the bowl games exist prior to cfb playoffs?

So the answer is yes they did and are used for economic reasons now
To a degree for some people. There is a old guard who enjoyed the chaos of yesteryear over who was the national champion without the national championship game. All the major bowl games were played on NYD so plenty of suspense was had over the 10-12 hours the games were played.

The further you expand the playoffs the less relevant the major bowl games become. So you can understand why the people involved in putting together these games don't want to give that up.

That horse has bolted. Outside of the CFP games and maybe the Rose Bowl now there is extremely limited interest. Half full stadiums, plenty of coaching changes, players opting to prepare for the draft, some teams not trying.

Clearly there is still enough coin for the content to keep everyone happy, even if the greater public aren't interested.

He’s declaring for the draft.
no senior year at Alabama

Cant risk having trainers walking him off the field with potential career threating injuries or any cuts turning into gangrene after being "treated" by Alabama's medical staff. Fair enough.

Even with the injury, I'd still rather him over Herbert, if he's there at #7 (doubtful) id want Carolina to select him . An added bonus is that he's a left handed, meaning while we don't have a traditional left tackle sorted for RH'd QBs, Taylor Moton would be fine with a lefty under centre. Sign him to a big extension pre draft if we are all in on Tua and considering trading up to get him. #costcutting

Nominating for the draft is the right move. I think teams will reach and take a punt on him.

Look at the logjam of 5-7 (Mia, LAC, Car) then a number of teams that could be moving on soon from their QB like the Jags (9), Vegas (12) Indy (13).

Plenty of interest and if someone wants him they can't rely on hoping that he falls, someone will trade up and grab him.

Mind you, his recovery/progress etc by draft day will have a big influence.

Not just that but he can also claim money back on insurance based on him being a top 5 pick before the injury. Depending on where he falls.

But he should redshirt this year and learn. Too many players fail because they are thrown in too early

Redhawks fan?

Did not pick that.

My Alma mater

but I really cannot stand Ohio State

Kinda humorous we are playing a team from Louisiana in early January and they are not

And yes this is awful football (still better then most Browns games though) lol

We are in trouble now...can’t move the ball much if we can’t run it
