From what i've seen of Jermaine Jones over the years i've never thought he was anything particularly resembling AFL standard..

7 games for the cats in 3 seasons. Averagng 8.6 disposals, 3.7 tackles and kicking a total of 4 goals.

AND yet he's still now my preferred choice even though he probably hasn't even touched down in Perth yet.

I just want The West to get roasted for putting a completely false story on the back page of their toilet paper.

Ex-Geelong rookie Jamaine Jones has joined the race for the final list spot.

He’s already my favourite for the spot, thought he showed a decent amount at Geelong.

But is it the final list spot?

That's what caught my attention the most. We say that there may be two spots available.

That sounds like Willie could be placed on an inactive list giving us room to select two players in the SSP period or mid season draft.

Preference is

1. Jones - For the Geelong face rubbing if it works out/remember him being alright in his brief career
2. Reid - Just because I liked what i saw from in the Beagles
3. Grey - WAFL standard footballer, not sure we'd want him when we got rid of Masten/Smith

Pickett had interested me at first till that footage came out of him.

I wonder if Kelly put in a good word for Jones as he would have trained with him for two years. So we would have had some inside intelligence on him.

As fun as it is fat-shaming athletes (from one fatso to another), and as much as I'm glad to read he's not an option atm, I hope we haven't closed the door entirely on Pickett in the long-term.

If he can get himself fit and loving the game again over the next few months, he'd be a perfect midseason recruit. No cost + potential high-reward stuff.

Rather he played wafl for a year and then see

Depends entirely on what his attitude was like whilst he was at the club. I suspect it wasn’t what they’d hoped for as it was a pretty short lived exercise

If he was showing the right signs but was just too overweight, you'd have expected them to let him finish the preseason with a message to keep it up and he'd be looked at later. I don't think his heart's in it, which is a shame given his talent.

I was so keen on Pickett that draft, good thing I’m not a recruiter as I would have done something dumb like trade up to get him.

I reckon though his main weapon was his pace, which he probably lost through injury, and unlike Jetta doesn’t have immaculate footskills to fall back on. So he may have thrown in the towel a bit

Although I wouldn’t be upset with Gray if it ended up going that way, I like the fact we are keeping our options open.

Jones found himself behind some fairly decent names at the cats, it’s not necessarily surprising he found himself out the door.. Especially since the cats are very much in the now.

Judging by his VFL stats; 17 goals in 16 matches (with a high of 5), but averaging 5 tackles a game, so shows an aptitude to getting involved defensively. Given our want to find team players that would suggest he’s a good fit as a small forward.

Hope for him he has a good trial. Seems like he’s been through a fair bit just to get on an AFL list to begin with.

Temper your expectations gaiz... Tim Kelly is a 7 year plan

West Coast coach Adam Simpson urges patience with Tim Kelly, encourages fans to view him as a seven-year player

West Coast coach Adam Simpson says Tim Kelly is as much a long-term prospect as he is a recruit for the now, urging Eagles fans to view him as a seven-year player.
Kelly joined West Coast on a six-year, $5 million deal after two stellar years with Geelong, who took him as 23-year-old ahead of the 2018 season.
The price was high, with draft picks 14, 24 and 37 sent to Geelong along with the Eagles’ first pick at this year’s national draft. West Coast received two third-round selections.

In an exclusive interview with The West Australian, Simpson said Kelly would be encouraged to continue the attacking style he showed at Geelong and that he strengthened their 2020 list.
“He complements our midfield. But he is a longer-term investment and I think people have missed that a little bit,” he said.
“He is 25 and we are hoping he is a seven-year investment. Right now, clearly we hope he is an A-grade midfielder who just keeps going the way he has been going.

“But secondly and just as important is the long-term prospects of our club and getting someone in like that is going to help us. That is the benefit we saw last year going into trade week.”
He said rather than looking at how the football industry had managed to overlook Kelly for several drafts, he preferred to look at him as a great story who gave everyone hope.
“Every club had the chance. There are always reasons I am sure,” he said.
“When someone pops up like this and surprises the competition it gives everyone hope. Sometimes it takes players longer to mature and that is off-field as well as on-field.
“It looks like Tim has dealt with a lot off-field. He got it together, got given an opportunity and has just grabbed it. That is a good story for everyone.”
He said the Eagles would make only minor changes to fit Kelly in and mostly, he hoped he would just keep going the way he was going at Geelong, putting himself in dangerous positions where he could receive the ball.

“We will let him do his thing and play with the freedom he had at the Cats,” he said.
“There are things we like to do that were different at Geelong so finding that balance will be important.”
Kelly shouldn’t carry any more expectation that other Eagles midfielders, he said.
Former Geelong forward Jamaine Jones will train with West Coast from next week in a bid to press claims for the club’s Supplemental Selection pick to round out their list.
Jones joins former Fremantle forward Brady Grey and West Coast’s WAFL top up player Nic Reid in the race for either one or two spots on the list.
Jones played 7 games for the Cats as a teenager in the 2018 season but did not play AFL at all in 2019.

That Simpson interview is all about tempering the expectations and pressure on TK’s shoulders. Still can’t help but be excited about what he will bring > “groundball gets”
Fixed

Will make us less predicable as lot of clubs put a lot of work into Nic nat to Shuey rucktaps

I’m looking forward to a centre square lineup of Kelly, Shuey and Yeo, and NicNat just looking at the opposition and saying “try to guess whose throat I’m tapping this one down, bitches”
