You can choose. But you can’t just make it up yourself and go with that because all the bad guys are always out to get us. Crouch will be reportedly on a bigger deal than Grundy is all I’m saying. It will be reported pretty well unanimously too. Let’s see.
None of which changes the fact it will be based on the media using their fertile imagination yet again and nothing else. Not one of the reports will be corroborated by either the player, their management or the club's involved money wise.

So basically since there will never be anything published anywhere that will corroborate your story, it’s just true. And anything contrary is ridiculous. Lol. Okay.

How is this not in the cap

Obviously the value of a player’s signature isn’t deemed to be part of the cap. It’s only a problem if Rory’s signature on a kid’s guernsey is. The AFL doesn’t own the players and I doubt they can limit their self-generated earnings. If Dusty was being paid to work at the local cafe, should that be included in the cap?

If someone told you Sloane was asking for 5 years, multi-million dollars at the end of last year you would have called that BS too. And yet....
Sloane isn't getting $1m a year.

Of course we are going to. How anyone here thought that either JJ or Betts are gonna have their crazy $500k salaries paid for by their new clubs, or that they out of the goodness of their hearts would drop their income a qtr of a million a year so we dont have to fork out anything is amazing.
Delusional actually.
We will end up paying a half a million a year, for two years, for JJ and Betts to play for an opposition team. Just let that level of mismanagement sink in.
Betts is only contracted for another year and I doubt it will be half of their salaries, likely at most $100K.

"around" in other words the writer really didn't know the correct figure or break up.
Don't the Crows have a similar salary policy to Geelong where players don't earn more than the Captain? and there is no way Walker is close to $1M, $850K is around the mark.....we do like to spread the salary evenly across the players you know so we can't have players earning $1M by themself (I think this needs to change).

Apparently Knight's had a medical with us. Might be mistaken, but I recall reading that he is a bit soft at times?
Hard as nails. Reliable shot at goal. Doesn't get enough of it.

And yet you can tell us for sure that Grundy will be getting more. You just have a narriative and you are choosing to call bullshit to everything that doesn’t suit it.

Sloane is finished as an elite player. Hasn’t been able to break a tag since mid 2017. He’s been a good honest tryer ever since. Nothing wrong with that. I love him. But he’s not worth a multi-million dollar 5 contract that takes him through to 33 years of age. Not even close given the football he has been playing.

If we let him take a relatively similar offer at another club as an FA we could have got pick 8 as compensation for him. That’s what a smart list manager would have done. That’s what a responsible list manager would have done. Let the fans be emotional. The guys running the show need to have cool heads and make the tough calls that we fans just can’t do.

Should have similarly traded out Lynch last year. Add those two calls to the bad call we made o Gibbs and this club is way behind he 8 ball now. We are miles behind 14 or 15 other clubs in the AFL now. Which is why we need to get rid of Reid and being in somebody who is willing to make the tough calls and drastically shake up the profile of our list.

Put a poll up then on who people think will be getting the bigger money contract Grundy or Crouch if he extends with Adelaide....I say Grundy, you say Crouch

Ok. So you are going to ignore every media publication including afl.com.au because it doesn’t suit your narrative, but a poll will be definitive?

Also, what people think will be getting bigger money??? Wtf. I’m not for a second suggesting that Grundy doesn’t deserve more money than Crouch and Sloane. In fact I insist that he does. I’m saying that the contract we gave Sloane was ridiculous and Grundy won’t get a deal that good because Collingwood will be more disciplined in their list management.

But Reid on the other hand is on tilt as evidenced by the Gibbs mistake and the errors we made in the contracts we gave to Sloane and Lynch. And yes, I don’t know for sure what deals we gave those three players. I could make a poll, but I’ll just base my thinking on sites like afl.com.au for now. So based on the terrible deals Reid handed out to Sloane, Gibbs and Lynch I am having a punt that we will soon announce another poorly thought out deal for Brad Crouch.

Any contract extension to Brad now would be a mistake because we don’t need to do anything right now. We can make the offer in 12 months, with full knowledge of the compo pick that will be on offer and whether his body holds up for another year. Any new contract that we give Brad Crouch this year will be a mistake. If ever there was a guy to hold off and wait it’s Brad.

So your basing your thoughts by AFL.com which had Sloane at 800k, and are calling that ridiculous?

Hate to break it to you, it isn't ridiculous.

What? I am saying that if we are going to accept that we as fans have any idea about what players are earning then articles from afl.com.au are as good as we are going to get. So if it says $800k x 5 years then that’s as good a discussion point as we are ever going to get.

Acknowledging that there is speculation involved, I think for the purposes of discussions on big footy that afl site is about as unbiased as we can possibly get.

The deals we reportedly gave to Sloane and Lynch were poor, poor list management decisions.

Sloane was fine, if not a tad too long time wise, but he was our best midfielder (still top 2 with Brad beginning to fulfill his potential), and 800k per year is really the going rate for a gun midfielder. No issues there, as you can live with an extra year, or two if it keeps a valuable piece.

Retaining Lynch was baffling list management then, and still is now. After all, getting rid of him was the easiest way to get Fogarty 22 games, and structurally, his niche really doesn't work without a 4th tall.

Disagree that Sloane was fine. Doesn’t matter if he was our best mid. He has been average since he started getting tagged and hasn’t come close to reclaiming the level of football that he had before then. We certainly shouldn’t have given him a deal till he was 33.

But more than that is if we let him go we would have got pick 8 as compensation. Forget about emotion, a list managers job is to make the tough calls that are best for the club. With all of those factors, it really was a no brainer to let him go and take the compo pick.

At least in the case of Lynch we are not privy to the trade offer that was on the table for him. He isn’t worth $2m over 3 years, but at least we can’t say for sure what we gave up in terms of draft picks for him. If someone was willing to give us a first rounder for him (unlikely) then for sure it was a shocking mistake, even worse than Sloane. But if the best offer we were going to get was only a throw away pick 100, then the call to keep him doesn’t look as bad.

I just feel that those two decisions just shows that we don’t have a list manager with his finger on the pulse. The thinking has been extremely short thinking. In 2016 we didn’t trade for Gibbs. I can’t fault that and didn’t at the time. But then after the 2017 grand final the list management strategy has clearly changed. We backflipped on a 28 year old Gibbs. We started giving long contracts taking players well into their 30s. We overpaid aging players to keep them. The old strategy from 2016 and before has clearly been abandoned and a very short term approach seems to have been followed in order to chase a flag.

Well, that needs to be abandoned now and reversed.

We were supposedly still in the premiership window....you be nuts to trade Sloane and Lynch.
