Was told a rumour that if we move Jacobs on then he's got an offer from GWS in that Shane Mumford/Dawson Simpson mature backup role.

Yeh, I remember Thommo was being courted by Melbourne for a playing role as well when he was publicly angling for an extension. Peas in a pod those 2. Do they have the same manager?

Oh I got the idea. That trade is still terrible seeing it's pick 1 for pick 2 + pick 9.

Which would mean Gold Coast who have control over this situation would take a loss.

Our best case is a straight swap of Luko for 1. That'd see GC stand still talent wise.

Ah, players either go up or down in value. They never hold value. I think Luko is looking okay, but not necessarily like a world beater. Thye Carlton pick seems like too much.

Maybe 1 and 25 for Luko and 9?

He's a first year KPF, they are never world beaters. It's a slow burn position. Getting 20 odd games into him and being contracted will only raise his worth. The end of the day, there is no reason for Gold Coast to even accept a trade that'll see then stand still due to having an extra year of control. If they do there is a level of buyers beware to the deal.

The only way Luko could drop in value here is an LTI or gets wiped out for systematic doping. Potential is worth more then production after all.

I don't mind this list. My only change would be to trade CEY if there were any takers. Maybe for a project ruck (>205cm)

I'm pretty sure CEY is a free agent (drafted 2011), and an unrestricted one at that. If he leaves, we're not getting anything for him.

I assume his years on the rookie list still count towards his 8 years of service in terms of free agency, anyway?

The only realistic way a deal like that for Lukosius could happen is if he is telling the club now that he will not sign on past his mandatory 2 years and will seek a trade back to SA. Then they might just think a possible pick 1 is the very best possible return they could get - and lets face it, it is not a bad return if it plays out that way for them as they can take the best player in this draft

But then what's to stop the player they take with that pick turning around and doing the exact same thing and demanding a trade back to Victoria at the end of next year? They've already got enough problems with player retention as it is, I doubt they'd want to allow a brand new number 2 pick to just walk out the door after 1 year, even for pick 1 - they'd probably rather not set that precedent. They'd hold him to his contract, then if he does request a trade next year they'd still be demanding full value for him. I suppose the best case then is that the player we took with Carlton's pick this year ends up getting traded back to Victoria for the pick we need to bring back Lukosius, so ultimately it could still be that pick for Lukosius.

Delist - Douglas, Otten, Hunter, Wilson, Strachan, Jacobs
Trade - Jenkins, Hartigan, Kelly. but only if a suitable deal can be done.

Trade in another ready to go ruckman to help or replace ROB (not an 18 yo). Personally hope ROB makes it, his work around the ground I am definitely a fan of already, needs to improve his tap work, particularly at centre bounces.
Use pick 1 on a gun mid. Whoever the best player is.
Draft another tall fwd in case Fogarty is a bust. There i said it. Luko would be good but don't think we get him unless we offer pick 1 which would be a mistake.

Here are some SA boys worth looking at for our Retirements, Delistings.

Essendon: Fantasia 178 cm 24y 65 games 98 goals (Forward/Mid)
Francis 192 cm 22y 13 games 4 goals (Backman/Forward)
Hawthorn: Obrien 193 cm 25y 65 games 27 goals (Forward/Backman)
Brand 198 cm 25y 39 games (Backman)
Geelong Stanley 200 cm 29y 120 games 79 goals (Ruck/Forward)
Fremantle Cox 195 cm 21y 27 games 22 goals (Forward)
Nth Melb Durdin 198 cm 23y 9 games 1 goal (Ruck/????)

I Would Retire/Delist/Trade Ottens, Douglas, Kelly, Hartigan, Jacobs, Betts??, Jenkins,
The only problem with my R/D/T's there is a lot of Experience Going

I think Sloane, Tex and Talia are the senior players who really matter.

If Tex and Talia can recapture their 2016 form over the next couple of years then we are a flag chance.

If not, we could be about to fall off a cliff.

I think Jacobs falls into this category as well. Possibly Betts also. I think Sloane and Talia are the only ones that could still play at the top of their game consistently - even though Talia has looked shaky this season so far.

Unfortunately the cliff fall is looking more likely than a resurgence.

Nothing stopping a player they would pick with pick 1 leaving..just that if a player decides they are out you won't get a better pick in compensation than pick 1..especially if a player will be out of contract 1 year later

Seriously why would we be talking delist Strachan after not even a handful of SANFL games coming off a managed pre-season recovering from a very serious ankle injury sustained mid season 2018 playing for Port Melbourne in the VFL?? Also makes no sense to be talking delisting Pat Wilson so early on in season 2019 while he continues to absolutely dominate SANFL games. If for no other reason a big bodied mid like Pat Wilson is excellent AFL depth and a big body in the SANFL to protect and encourage our developing youngsters.

Strachan is 27 according to the op. However i see he is 23 and a ruck so give him another year fair enough
Wilson too old and not good enough. We have 10 plus mids better than him. Try someone else

24 is too old?

Edit :
2019 SANFL averages
Not bad stats for someone playing an inside mid role and most importantly a "kicking" midfielder

32 Disposals - 19.3 Kicks - 12.8 Handballs - DE 78% - 7.5 Marks - 5 Tackles - 7 Clearances - i50's 6.5 - r50's 2

That's fine in the sanfl but he's shown he's not good enough in the afl. And yes if you haven't made it by 24 you are too old sorry
Give a younger kid a go who might be better

Hugh Greenwood and Alex Keath were both 25 when they debuted (not saying I rate Wilson, just saying).

Would wait until luko is out of contract and offer his value at that point. Would presume pick 20ish. Pick 1 needs to be used on the best midfielder with pace in the draft. We are extremely slow in the midfield. We should also go for a player that is physically ready to go and able to make an impact round 1.

Yet we have a older player with less talent and much slower who has been on list 8 years mainly as a rookie after being delisted numerous times.
Not disagreeing with you. Cey is very good at some things and very bad at others. Has had some good afl games at least

Question from Left Field: Does Adelaide have to use their 1st and 2nd round Draft Picks in the 2020 PSD, or can they Pass
and use those picks, in 2021, to have a go at Rankine,Lukosius
I believe if you pass, you automatically forfeit those picks.
