Just of interest has a 19 year old ever left a club one year into his first contract..

If you're just looking at first year players requesting a trade - Tim Kelly springs to mind.

19 year old, high draft picks however tend to not be until they're out of contract at a minimum and even then it's rare, and usually requiring a dump truck full of money. Still, you're much more likely once they hit FA then any other time, though that doesn't remove the requiring a dump truck full of money part.

That said, it is inevitable that it will occur eventually.

Thanks. Let's hope we are about to set a precedent. They owe us. ("....and they'll never, tear.................")

Potentially, the good news so far that despite Gold Coast going to the media about wanting to get them signed up ASAP, neither has, yet.

I doubt it'll occur until next year if it is going to (without it being a FA thing). There is a lot of incentive to finish the contract off at Gold Coast, seeing it'd be an easy way to get 20-40 games into you which is enough time to show if you're on a star trajectory. Do that, and you could be looking at both of them potentially getting similar money that Lever attracted.

Interesting that the very talented Victorian Harley Balic best remembered as the player that was offered a shed load of dough by his father to stay home with Mummy after he was drafted by Freo.

Then transferred back home to the Demons for a late draft pick and upon resuming he lit up the VFL in the hand full of games he played before wanting out altogether. Now running around in the VAFA Division 2 Ammos with the Parkdale Vultures in 2019. Billy Hartung also running around in the same league.

Richard Douglas / 32
David Mackay / 31
Andy Otten / 30
Paul Hunter / 26
Patrick Wilson / 24
I don't mind this list. My only change would be to trade CEY if there were any takers. Maybe for a project ruck (>205cm)

Our timing is abit out with the Carlton/pick 1 deal. We were too late to use it to draft Luko, Rankine or Rozee and too early to use it to trade for Luko or Rankine.
Carlton is likely to finish bottom 2 or at most 4th last, the top 4 talent is like any other year (except for last year) but from 5+ it isn't as good compared to last year's at this stage and I highly doubt Carlton would have traded future pick for last year given the quality of the top 4 were all consider pick 1 in any draft. They only did this trade as they are thinking of using our 1st rounder to get someone like Kelly (who looks like re-signing) and SOS didn't want to give a high pick to GWS, funnily GWS gave us a "free" 2nd rounder this year from Carlton.

Trade:
Poholke, Kelly, Lynch, Hartigan, Jenkins, Knight, Cey

Retire:
Jacob's, Douglas, Otten, Betts (Feel 2019 might be his last year. Possibly an early retirement.) Mackay(had him on here but playing better as usual final year of contract. Club might give him an extra year,)

Delist:
McPherson

RETIRE
Eddie Betts
Sam Jacobs
Andy Otten
Richie Douglas
David Mackay

DELIST

TRADE
Jake Kelly
Josh Jenkins - traded to Melbourne for 2nd round pick

There's $2.5m in salary in that list. I'd be looking for some players we could bring in to spend it. Pick 1 for Lukosius and the Brisbane pick?

Carlton would jump at the chance to get Eddie Betts back still. I'd be keeping Eddie at the club whether as a player, a coach or in a player welfare/development role of sorts.

That is a really bad trade for Brisbane.

Betts is contracted to the end of 2020 - you really think he’ll retire early?

He's said he could, if the game was passing him by.

Chances are he won't, which doesn't bother me that much.

?

Gold Coast have Brisbane's pick.

The idea is 1 for Lukosius and pick 9 or so.

Still unlikely, sure - this IS BigFooty.

Oh I got the idea. That trade is still terrible seeing it's pick 1 for pick 2 + pick 9.

Which would mean Gold Coast who have control over this situation would take a loss.

Our best case is a straight swap of Luko for 1. That'd see GC stand still talent wise.

For me:

Retire (forcibly or otherwise): Jacobs, Otten, Douglas, Mackay
Delist: Davis (well, demote to rookie list), Hunter, Wilson.

5/1 changes seems right for this year, though of course if you could do this:

Trade: Jenkins (I'd be trying my hardest to break that contract right now).

You do that without any hesitation whatsoever.
Jenkins is becoming very toxic. Shop him around now.
