I'd certainly love him at the club, but won't have an issue of we pass on him. In the end the same guys making the call have absolutely nailed their past few years of drafting. Trust in the process!
Agree overall but probably a bit early to make a call on last year's selections, with the exception of Answerth.

You're not wrong, although I think it is more likely than not that Tom and Ely will have decent careers at AFL level.

Wow. We've now got the first pick tonight. Interesting trade.

Would think it has to be for Robertson. I don't know why else we would trade up - the other prospects we've been linked to would still be there at our other pick.

We must have been extremely keen for pick 22. You'd assume it's the big slider

If we rate Robertson as others supposedly did - as a top 10 pick - this trade makes a heap of sense. Imagine breaking it down as trading something like picks 31 and 23 for 9 and 55.

We must have also done a handshake agreement that we will not be going after the player that Port are drafting. Curious to see who we draft now.

He is, however Robertson's uncle is Daren Glass, the WCE list manager. No doubt uncle Darren will have been in his ear telling him to come home ASAP. If we've traded up for him I hope he stays strong and resists the call.

I think as a state captain though, you'd imagine he might have the maturity to commit to a club and make a good go of it interstate. Captaincy doesn't always suggest that sort of a mindset and maturity, but it often does I think.

Wonder if we'll look to trade our third pick for a future 2nd. You could understand Port not wanting a late second rounder.

Huge news. Robertson would have to be the one you'd think!

We must be trading up to make sure we get Rivers or Robertson and we were worried that Port may take him........ then why would Port do the trade? Why wouldn't Port just take the player they want if we want him as well?

I can't get my head around it, Please Explain!

Port sit back and have clubs come to them with offers. Clearly potential players would have been discussed. If there was a specific player Port wanted, they would want to know who we are chasing. Clearly we want a player they aren't after, and that player will still be available to them after we have our pick. They get an upgrade in next years draft for literally nothing.

Agreed but it does stop Port trading 22 to another club. Now we are definite in getting who we want. Port trade 22 elsewhere & we might miss out.

Confusing trade downgrading a second round pick for a fourth round pick just to swap places with Port.

I seriously doubt Port would've been interested in whichever player we want all to move up from the fourth to second round in next years draft.

Great piece of trading by Port when they more than likely weren't going to draft the player we want.

Confusing why we'd be so desperate.

I still can't understand why we would do the trade if we knew we would get who we want anyway. #stillconfused

Possibly a preventative measure to stop us trading the pick to another club that might want the same player as you?

After some thought, I assume we traded up to ensure Port don't trade their first to another club who wants the same player we do. Would have to be Robertson.
Ah, thanks Bobby and Nunez, it makes sense now, that would have to be the reason.

I would have figured it out eventually, bit slow on the uptake today.
