Giving up 17 for a 31yr would be sending hawks up the ladder and us further down when he retires in 1-2yrs time

My theory was it hopefully didn’t hold up our other trades, and hopefully allowed us to turn Martin into Smith, Greenwood & Betts.

But you could be right, we might try and hold out and obtain something much earlier for him.

Love this mate, the only thing I would say is pick 52 for Betts and Greenwood given their age that’s more fair for us.

Greenwood is 28 years old, and worth more than 52. I think your expectations are unrealistic, 31 is a reasonable price. To attract Greenwood away the Suns will need to make a better offer than Adelaide and Hawthorn, so similar logic applies to him as what was cited for Ah Chee above.

Isaac Smith turns 31 in december and probably has 2 years left at most and you cannot trade a 1st rounder for him,Hodge was 1 year older and went for peanuts. Pick in the 40's is about his value

Hawks should be happy with a deal like that
They get Martin and are still in the 1st round whilst looking after their stalwart in his coaching aspirations and a extension in his career

Hawks dont really worry about trade vale when looking after their champs

at their ages its not really about the early pick its about the player getting a better, longer deal and the club he is at getting to unload them off the books anyway

This is the part I disagree with you, you think you knew without even negotiating, all this is in your head trying not to get reject by other club through assumption.

I'm pretty sure Smith has no intention of playing for the Sun's and is just looking to use us as leverage to get a longer deal with the Hawks.
