I'm hoping that Logue pushes Hamling out of the key defensive spots in time if we retain Pearce.

We shouldn't be beaten athletically by key forwards with those two in key spots. Joel reads the ball better than both in my opinion so it might be controversial but I'd rather him than Logue as the floating third.
Funny thing is even if Alex Pearce is injured, Hamling and Logue can fill the 2 KPD spots.

When freo made finals in that 2012-15 period, the 3 kpds were Zac Dawson, Luke McPharlin and Michael Johnson.

Zac Dawson stood at 198cm. He gets crapped on by most people but His role was to take on the teams Full Forward or the teams 200 cm ruck forward. McPharlin stood at 193 cm and took on the teams best key defender regardless if its a 195 cm full forward or any CHF.

Michael johnson is 193 cm as well and usually he was the 3rd tall on a back pocket or half back flank. If either McPharlin or Dawson was injured, Johnson played CHF while McPharlin/Dawson was fullback.

You look at our current talls.

Alex Pearce is our best KPD. He is 198cm and takes on your FF or Ruckmen/Forwards in the Ben Browns, Charlie Dixon, Kurt Tippets, Josh Jenkin types are they are 200 cm tall and 100-110kg.

Joel Hamling can be the Michael Johnson 3rd tall defender on the back pocket. But he did a good job on Buddy Franklin in the 2016 Grand final.

Griffin Logue is 193 cm. when drafted he could be anything. Tall enough to play forward. Looked like a midfielder at 1st thought. He is settled on CHB or as a 3rd tall.

With Pearces injury history we simply need 3 quality key backs and I think we have them in Alex, Joel and Griffin. The likes of Watson could also become an option in due course, and depending on the draft if DGB was available at our pick.. I see Trew, DBG, O’Driscoll and McDonald went in the top 14 on a big footy phantom draft yesterday!
Well I am happy to have 2. Logue and Hamling are reliable. Duman is also 192 cm as well.

I dont minds freos choices of 1st round picks from 2016-19.

There was one person on here. I forget who it was, that predicted that Griffin Logue wasnt going to make it.

I replied that Griffin Logue isnt a wasted pick. If he becomes a solid B grader that plays 200 games then its fine by me. We just needed to find where logues best position is.
I reckon Logue will be our best defender by the time he is 25/26 yrs old

To be honest, I dont know if thats a good thing or a bad thing.

Logue just turned 22 last month. so thats another 3-4 years away.

Hamling is 27. in 3-4 years time he will be 30 or 31 years old. He might retire by then or at the final year of his career.

Alex Pearce is 24. in 3-4 years time will be 27-28 years old.

Slim chance that we get another emerging 20-21 year old key defender in that period too.

I think your a bit wrong about what positions they play.

Hamling is the FB, he's not a Michael Johnson type because he can't deliver the footy.
Pearce is the CHB, in reality Hamling and Pearce interchange a lot depending on positioning however you'll see Pearce taking off with the footy a lot more than Hamling.
Logue is your 3rd tall in progress at the moment because of his mobility, power and speed. Hopefully he can get his kicking skills going

Brennan Cox?

.

Alex Pearce is at least 201-202cm, has been growing since drafted by Freo, a well known fact!

He is also over 100kgs as well.

Mr Google could be your friend if you use it!

Dont get me wrong. He is solid.

My only concern is he is from South Australia, You constantly worry if he wants to Head home.

He has several close mates at Freo with Duman and Ryan. I think we're safe.

If anything the greater risk would be if he can get more opportunity to play at a different club.

As in he will be better than Hamling and Pearce were at their best at that time. Rance 2.0.

And who knows maybe we pick up DGB this year, Cox, Young, Ryan

I like to read Knightmares bio on players, but when it comes to Freo he is like the rest of us. Freo
are hard to read.
He has us this year taking more mids, but our forward line is still my concern with Tabs, Cox, Dixon, the
only alternatives to Hogan and Lobb.
Injury to key positions last year finished a finals possibility, and the coach.
Tigers could cover for Rance, had to improve on 2018, VFL, AFL has proven that you need a 2 pronged attack.

I wrote an article on every club's best trade of the last decade. What do you think Freo's best trade of the 2010s was?

You appear to be rating trades based on the players drafted by the traded picks.

In that case Freo's trade of pick 36 & 56 to the Hawks for pick 29, 58, & 71 would have to be up there.

Pick 36 and 56 became Jordan Kelly (0 games) and Tom Downie (9 games)
Pick 29, 58, and 71 became Alex Forster (1 game), Lachie Neale (135 games for Freo), Cameron Sutcliffe (104 games for Freo)

Neale traded 7 seasons later with pick 30 for picks 6, 19, and 55

As a note the trade looks lopsided because Freo unofficially traded the rights to a pre-selected player to the Hawks. The Hawks traded pick 56 to GWS to officially get those rights, picking up Jarrad Boumann (2 games). Freo unofficially had received those rights from GWS as part of an earlier trade for the Rhys Palmer compo.

Griffin Logue and Joel Hamling are WA boys.
As long as Ryan is here, Cox will be here too - and I reckon he'll get games as a swingman. I've never seen two closer 'best mates' at the club than those two. I'd say Duman as the third of the Three Amigos, but now he's got a baby that's probably changed a bit.

I would put him in midfield...With such strength, size, speed and stamina he would become dominant mid fairly quickly...

And who plays FB?

Regardless of whether he could make the switch and be a good mid he's going to provide more value as a key defender, simply because our stocks there are shallow (particularly now when Pearce and Hamling are injured) and because we have so many midfielders already looking for spots (Brayshaw, Cerra, Blakely, Valente, Serong, North, Crowden.)

What I meant is gradually train him as a midfielder ,certainly not straight away with Pearce and Hamling injured...

We do desperately need some serious grunt in there and I think Logue would be great in there...

Grunt-wise, I think Acres, Valente and Serong can bring a bit of beast to our midfield.

I don't know where Logue ends up in his career journey. I see him as a rebounding defender + 10 minute per game ruck/midfielder. The future of rucks seems to lean towards mobility and athleticism, and he could offer something to that mix. I could see Logue. Fyfe, Acres and Serong getting their share of around the ground clearances.
