CEY makes sense need someone big in mid
Half back we need speed Rich will take over Hodge role. Someone attacking and speed off the backline is needed. If we do not trade does Bailey go back?
I think we get shown up lack of pace in back half a lot. Need someone who can chase pressure and run down people.

forwards the intersting thing glimpses in the NEAFL all year although apart for Keays nothing consistent big man wise.
we where winning by double each week no one stood up with 2-3 every week or more.

like many others not sure Big O/Martin and Mcstay can be our targets if they even mark within range only Big O I say more then 50/50 and not by much. Martin and McStay shocking kicks for goals.

jenkins not who I want not sure who.We have so many tall kids in NEAFL to trade another in
I don't have the stats but my sense is that Martin has really improved his goal kicking...

In my opinion Witherden will be fighting hard to be in our best 22 in season 2020 so allocating him as the defensive general next year is not gonna happen. My advice to Alex would be: get off social media, stay away from all camera's wherever possible, find yourself a professional running coach & concentrate 100% on lifting your running up to AFL standard.
As for a surprise in this trade period, I agree 100% that there will be a player come to us that we haven't detected on the radar yet.

I thought Witho hired a running coach last preseason? May be completely making that up, but thought I read it somewhere. Tough call imo saying to completely stay away from social media.

After Noble's interview yesterday and his reference to Lewy's contract not being settled until after the Trade period my guess is this would be the same for a few others as well, hence no news on delistings...it may well be a case of wait and see for NRobbo, Lewy, Keays, Bundy and Tommy Cutler.

Of our uncontracted players such as Basti, Bundy, Cutler, Taylor - would we have paid any of them "overs" last time round and hence this time they would be looking at a sizeable cut in $$ to stay.

Didn't say completely stay away from social media, just stop the high level of activity. Think his main focus should be improving his footy not his social media profile. That can come at a later stage in his career.....just an opinion.

Ah my bad mate 👍
Yep, fair point.

Yeh and I'm not 100% on him being the right personality to be the general back there.
Witho giving Basti a massive bake wasn't a good look , a bit of respect for other players goes a long way imo.
Hope he has matured in this area and also gained with some humility.
Smelt a bit of I'm up my self , what the f..k are you doing .

Going on my previous post we don't need to get in another general down back .
We need elite speed with a evasive running skills like Dion Prestia or Bolton.
Use them to run it out and link up with players we already have like Taylor .

lol this is hilarious, so if he gets off social media he will be how much of a better player? 5%, maybe 10%.

One doesn't have anything to do with a young player working hard on the areas he needs to, I am sure the coaches have given him honest feedback on what to improve and I highly doubt social media was even thought of let alone mentioned.

I really hope we can trade our first two picks and move inside the top ten in the draft. Was pleasing to hear Noble say they would like to move up the draft board.

Can't get enough top end talent and I think we have developed a lot of depth now so we can afford to take this action. Everything I hear and read is that outside the top 10-12 players it becomes a bit of a lottery on who each club rates. Plenty of clubs like Carlton will need to do deals to get the players in they are chasing. The opportunities are there to get a top ten pick and hopefully add another future A grade player to our list.

I always feel that this is easier said than done. Going back to the last couple of years, the following trades are somewhat relevant:

2018:

Freo: Pick 6 & 2019 third round pick for Port: Pick 11, Pick 23, Pick 30 & Pick 49 (ie an upgrade from 11 to 6, at a cost)

2017:

Carlton Pick 16 & Pick 40 for Dogs: Pick 28, Pick 30 & 2018 second round pick (ie upgrade from 28 to 16, at a cost)

Brisbane Picks 20 & 25 Richmond Picks 15 & 52

2016:

Brisbane Picks 2, 31, 51, 60 for GWS Picks 3 and 16 (ie GWS upgrade 3 to 2 for a first rounder and get a second rounder plus change back)

St Kilda Picks 10 & 68 for Hawks 2017 first round pick, Pick 23 & Pick 36 (bit hard to value given different years)

The team looking to upgrade normally either pays a hefty price to meet their strategic need to upgrade (eg us in 2017) or has something really attractive that the other club is in serious need of (eg our 2016 trade with GWS or StK/Hawks trade)

Agree with this. I'm sure some curveballs will be thrown into the mix, but from where things currently sit I can't see us moving up the order too far. Maybe the Doggies would be keen to turn pick 12 into two picks to secure Keath & Bruce. Ideally they'd like to bring both in while keeping pick 12 but that may not be possible. Also, if GWS is unable to move up to the pointy end of the draft to get a live pick in before a bid on their academy player, they may prefer to move backwards if the points situation works better for them.

Don't cry because it's over.

Smile because it happened.

Rest well, sweet prince.

You will never be forgotten.

He won us games (6:16)

No fuss. Pure class. One of the best NEAFL players of all time. Dominated the seconds and did a job when he needed to this year.

He'll be brewing up in the coffee club in the sky now.

Still can't believe he's gone

Interesting trade period if we don't get a player that requires our pick 16 (and potentially 21)
Teams that would possible look at our picks 16 & 21 (and 34/44/52) could be:-
- STK with picks 6 & 57 (could use pick 16 on Hill)
- CARL with picks 9 & 41 (could use pick 16 on Papley)
- HAW with picks 11 & 30
- FREM with picks 7 & 26
- ADEL with picks 4 & 28
- PORT with picks 10 & 29
- SYD with picks 5 & 42 (might use 5 & 16* for Daniher)

I think the CARL one might work (picks 16, 21 & 52 for picks 9, 41 & 46)
- 9, 34, 41, 44, 46, 88
Use one of the 40s for Ah Chee
